Skeletons In The Locker Room-Night At The Delta

                 1990-

Danielle gets out of the pool and wipes the water from her eyes, crossing over to her best friend Julie.

"Can you believe it? I'm a lock for regionals! Coach says if I can improve my time, I could win the whole thing outright!" She exclaims. A grin spreads on Julie's face as if she just had an idea. Never a good sign.

"I had a thought." She says.

                            "Oh no."

"I swear it's a good one this time." Julie promises. "What if, you practice in the delta? The one up in the hills? It'll be easy to improve your time there!"

                            "I don't know. Isn't that dangerous?"

"Come on, it's enclosed water. You're not gonna die!"

And that's how Danielle and Julie ended up in the hills in the middle of the night, standing at the open mouth of the delta, Danielle in her swimsuit.

"So do you really think I can improve my time here?" Danielle asks, reluctantly peering into the water. Julie sighs heavily and walks up behind her.

"Danielle, did you ever wonder why it is that I never seem to go to class?"

"What?" Danielle asks, caught off guard.

"Did you ever wonder why every time we're together and we run into someone, they only start talking to you?"

"Julie, what are you talking about? What's going on?" Danielle's heart begins to flutter as she wonders what got into her friend.

"You see, I was a lock for the regionals too. But someone suggested I go practice in the delta." Julie explains.

"What're you talking about? You don't swim."

"I did then." Julie says with a shrug. "But that night, when I was here in the hills, I got pushed in by someone I thought was my friend. That was," She says, looking up as she mentally counts. "1968."

"Wait, so you're-you're-you're not real?" Danielle exclaims.

"Oh, I'm real. Just dead. That someone who pushed me, was Garry Stone."

"That's my dad," Danielle says a bit defensively. Julie's head drops as she walks closer.

"I'm sorry for this, Danielle. I really liked you." She says, clicking her tongue and pushing Danielle into the delta before the other girl can even realize what's happening. The last sight of Danielle's life before crossing over to the spirit world, is watching from beneath the bubbling surface as the girl she thought was her best friend, stands watching.
