Bite-Sized Stories: Trust Is Broken
Tony ran through the woods, his heart beating in his throat. He sunk behind a tree and tried to force air into his lungs. The wolf he'd been trying to outrun was gaining on him. He knew her as his girlfriend, Cynna. She'd been born with lycanthropy, finding herself in canine form under every full moon.
As someone with a lifelong fear of dogs, Tony knew he was crazy for giving his heart to her anyway, but he figured he'd get over it. They'd get past this. That is, however, until this Halloween.
Someone had casted a spell, rendering those of the werewolf kind unable to revert to their human forms. The way he liked her. Right now he was afraid of what she was. He didn't trust her anymore.
Tony looked up at the tree line, seeing the sun crest over the hill. He felt a puff of hot breath on his arm and heard leaves cracking on the side of him. Tony turned around to see the source of the noise, stumbling backwards at the sight of the silver wolf.
Their eyes met as the canine once again became the girl. A spell broken by the sun. Crouched down on all fours and panting, Cynna grabbed onto the tree and rose to her feet. Tears welled up in her eyes and her breaths turned hoarse.
"Why did you run from me?" Cynna asked.
"Well, it's just-I thought-" Tony struggled to say.
"You thought I was gonna hurt you." She finished. Tony made no attempt to correct her. She was right.
"I thought you trusted me, but I guess I was wrong." Cynna said, walking away into the daylight.
