Chapter 2
"Welcome to The Castle Hotel. Room for one I presume?" The lady at the front counter asked. I nod my head in response, not feeling like having a conversation with her.
"Alright," she said, typing something in her computer. She looked up, opening her mouth to speak and I held my credit card in front of her, silencing her. She smiled at me, taking it. "Here's your card to get into your room. Floor five, room One-twenty-four."
I gave her a small smile and walked to the elevator. I step into the elevator, wary of it, feeling like it might stop on the way up. It only makes sense that if would happen. It's a new week meaning something bad is bound happen, so why not getting stuck in an elevator? Surprisingly though that didn't happen.
I made my way up to the fifth floor, going down various hallways to get to my actual room. Once I found it I unlocked it, feeling the wall to find a light switch. My hand stumbles upon it, flicking it upwards.
I walked in the rest of the way, closing the door behind me. There's a twin sized bed and a coffee table in the room and a small bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower.
That place is a totally waste of money. I knew I needed to find an apartment soon. I hated that the apartment complex, I was originally going to live at rented out apartment to someone else as I was on my was there. Then my car blew out of the side of the road, causing me to walk half a mile here.
I knew I'd never have a normal life.
Third Person
Gavreel waited until the elevator doors closed with Anna in it before he walk into the building. He swiftly walked over to Lydia, the women at the front desk. She had her back turned to him, looking at a paper. "Lydia," he addressed her.
She jumped slightly and spun around. "Gavreel," she says, putting a hand over her heart. "You gave me a scare."
"I'm not really a scary person though," he said, looking at her questionably.
"Yeah, but," she started, but realized it was pointless. "Nevermind. What is it you need?"
"That girl who just walked in," he said, nodding his head to the elevator. "I need you to keep an eye on her. Tell me every thing she does, everyone she hangs out with, and everywhere she goes."
"You basically want me to stalk her?" She asks, giving him the 'are you kidding me?' look. "Isn't that your job?"
"Well," he started, startled by her question. "Technically yes."
"I doubt she'd want to be bffs with me and tell me all her secrets," she tells him, confusing him further.
"And why would that be?" He questioned, curiously.
"Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that I'm about thirty years older than her," she said, voice raising a little thinking that she could get to him more if she was louder.
"And why would that matter?" I asked, the conversation still confusing him.
She groaned. "Your so oblivious to everything. You should spend more time on earth. I'm sure if she spends more time here she'll make a friend."
He hummed in response. Lydia is a good friend of his and he had as much trust in her as he did Afreil. But unlike him, she's a human. She knows everything though, about what he was and what's going on. Afreil and her had a relationship about fifteen years back, but of course ended when they realized he was going to stay twenty-five forever and she would only get older.
They decided not to erase her memory though. It would take half of her life away and they knew that wasn't fair to her.
"I suppose I'll give her some time to make friends. But keep an eye on her okay?" He asked, pleading.
She sighed. "Of course. You know I'd do anything to help you guys." There's a moment of silenced before she asked, "how's Afreil?"
"He's doing fine," Gavreel responded.
She nodded her head, looking down. "I'll see you soon Lydia."
Then he was gone. He had more people to see regarding Anna.
*****
"I need you too," Gavreel begged.
"You're not making sense, Gavreel," he sighed.
"One by one, but don't hurt her. I don't want them to land a hurtful hand on her, understood?" Gavreel said, leaning over the counter in a threatining way.
"And what's in it for me?" He leans over the counter also.
He stood straight up once more. "What is it you wish?"
"Hmm," he pondered, crossing his arms a crossed his chest. "How about I tell you when the time comes? I just love having owed favors handy. You know, just in case."
"Fine," He agreed, not liking the idea much. "Have it your way. But if I find out that you hurt her in any way-"
"I won't. They won't. They're trained machines waiting for a command from their leader," he says, referring to himself.
He nodded, hoping he could trust him. If not well, he may have just agreed to kill her, hopefully that wasn't the case.
"Can't wait to see you again, angel," he said, using the word 'angel' in a negative tone.
He slowly walked away from Gavreel, out of the warehouse.
He sighed once more before disappearing from the abandoned place.
Anna's POV
"Uh excuse me miss?" I called, trying to gain her attention.
She turns around and looks around, trying to figure out who was calling for her. I awkwardly waved in an attempt to show her it was me who called for her.
"Hey," I said, lamely. Her eyes finally focused on me and she chuckled. She walked over to me, giving a friendly smile.
"Hi, sorry I didn't see you there," she apologized. "What can I do for you?"
"Uh so I'm sorta new to town and I was wondering what the you know um," I stuttered, figuring out how to word it.
"Where the hot spots are here?" she figured, giving me a knowing look.
I chuckled nervously, running a hand through my hair. "Basically."
"For shopping there's a small market on the end of this road. Contains food, clothes, anything you'd need really. There's a café and diner by the boardwalk. As for bars, bowling, movie theaters, those are on Highland street." she finished.
"So Highland street is the place to go," I said, a small smile on my face.
"It's definitely the most visited place in this whole town," she said, chuckling.
"Alright, thank you so much," I said, waiting for a name.
"Lydia," she responded.
"Lydia. Thank you," I said, tucking hair behind my ear and walking away.
I got out the door when I realized I didn't ask where Highland street is. I didn't want to bother the lady anymore, so I walked down the street in an attempt to find it.
After a while of walking down different streets I came to the conclusion that I was lost.
I sit on the sidewalk with my back against the building behind me. I sigh in relief at the feel of giving my legs a break.
I know staying here, at ten at night, was very irresponsible. I slowly, leaning against the building, stood up. I looked around towards all the houses and the one store I was at right now.
I looked at the small shop with a light shining out of it, hurting my eyes. In the window were different band t-shirts and bags set up.
I walked over to the door, walking in. Inside looked like a goth teenagers closet exploded. Dark colored items covered the racks, tables, and walls.
At the register was a girl who looked a little too girly to be working here. She had a Twenty One Pilots T-shirt on with ripped jeans. She had light brown hair with dark brown highlights hanging down, covering most of her face.
"Hey, excuse me?" I said, walking up to her.
"Hello," she said, shyly.
"Do you know the way to Highland street?" I ask, putting my elbows on the counter.
"Highland street? I was about to head there after work," she says, smiling. "Which is in ten minutes, but considering it hasn't been real busy today, I'll take you there myself now." She started getting her things together.
"Woah," I say, surprised by the sudden gesture. "Wow thanks."
"No problem," she smiles, putting her purse on and walking over to the door. "So where ya heading exactly?"
"Well, I planned on just checking everything out, but right now I wouldn't mind the bar," I chuckle, walking out of the door.
She came out as well, locking the door behind her.
"Great cause that's where I'm heading," she smiles.
Then we walked all the way to the bar and I swear out of the corner of my eye I saw a smirk on her face as we started walking.
