Barclay's POV.
"Are you finally seeing Jess today?" Jake called as he chomped on a piece of toast.
"Yeah think so mate, Alexie has been unwell" I said.
"Has she been to the doctors?" Chris asked? As he pulled Faye tight into his body and placed a kiss on her temple.
"She hasn't said anything to me or the girls" Faye shrugged.
"James, you know her best, are you sure she's fine?" Casey asked.
"She should be, I'm seeing her later, we are going for a coffee" James replied as he flicked the page of the newspaper over.
"That's why Barcs has Jess today then, Lex is preoccupied" Reece laughed.
Both James and I gave him a glare.
"You sure she's not pregnant? Chels was like that for weeks" Tom added.
"She would have told me" James stated.
"Or one of us" Meli added.
"Or Jess, she could be pregnant" Brooke added.
"We are always safe" I sternly said.
"Maybe it's just a bug like Jess said" Charlie finally spoke up.
"Aww, do you not know what grown ups do?" Casey mocked as he ruffled Charlie's hair.
Everyone began roaring with laughter until a very tired looking Chelsea came into the room, cradling Bradley.
"If you guys want to continue to make a ruckus, then you can have Bradley. He won't settle and I'm shattered" she snapped before turning on her heels and flipping us the bird as she went upstairs.
"She has you whipped mate" Jake laughed.
"And Meli hasn't?" Tom shot back. Receiving a chorus of oooohhss from the boys.
"She doesn't" Jake answered.
"Babe, could you make me a coffee?" Meli called out from the sofa.
"Course" Jake responded. He examined our facial expressions.
"Fine, but I'm being a gentleman" Jake argued.
"Yeah whatever Sims" I called out.
"James, what time you meeting Lex?" I called out.
"Half 11, why?" He asked.
"Just wondering" I replied. I was meeting Jess at the same time and I knew they were going out. I could finally have some alone time with Jess. I've missed being intimate with her. I've missed just being around her warm smile and feeling her fingers run along my skin. Sending shivers down my spine.
Alexie's POV.
"Are you still okay with meeting James today?" Jess asked as she passed me a slice of toast.
"Yep" I answered.
"You've got your scan too, at 1" Jess informed me.
"Yep" I answered again.
"Is James going with you?" Jess asked.
"Yeah, I've decided what I'm going to do" I said quietly.
"Don't do anything stupid Lex"
"I'm not, I'm going to tell James about the baby, but it's Jason's. I want James to be there for support" I quickly said.
"I hope you know what your doing" Jess added.
"I do"
"Well, I'm seeing Barclay later, so you better get ready" Jess smiled as she gestured me to get out of the room.
I huffed quietly "Fine"
I got up and left the room. I was a little bit better than normal. Only just though.
I was lucky I haven't been feeling as sick either. Although I was still throwing up every morning.
I opened my wardrobe, debating on what to wear. My eyes looked down at my stomach. I was going to expand so much and none of my clothes where going to fit me soon.
I had my first scan later, so I wanted to make sure I would be comfortable. I decided on leggings and a plain baggy too. I threw on James' navy hoodie that I stole when he left. It drowned me abit. But I felt comfortable, I could pull the sleeves over my hands.
I pulled on some cute ankle boots too. Before brushing my hair into a ponytail. I couldn't be bothered with doing my make up either. I glanced at the clock, it was 11.10am.
"Jess I'm going" I called out.
"Okay sweet, I'll see you later" she called back loudly.
I grabbed my keys and bag from the peg beside the door.
I bounded down the stairs, as I turned the corner I bumped into someone's chest. I fell to the floor.
"Oh sorry Lex, you alright?" I heard Barclay say as he offered me his hand. I accepted and he pulled me up.
"Yeah I'm fine" I lied. My stomach hurt abit but I should be fine.
"James is already there" he smiled.
"Thank you" I beamed. "Jess is upstairs, she's missed you" I laughed before watching Barclay bound up the stairs behind me.
When I saw Barclay was out of my sight, I placed my hand on my stomach. Hmm, I hope it's not visible.
I walked out the block of flats, and walked along the road. I plugged my earphones in and waited at the bus stop. I sat down and kept an eye out. My phone buzzed.
I looked at the ID. It was Jess.
'Barc said he knocked you over, are you and the baby okay? Let me know when your scan is over xx"
I replied to the text and slipped my phone back in my hoodie. My bus arrived.
"Can I have a child day rider please?" I asked the driver.
"That's £2.60 please love" he asked.
I handed over the change, took the ticket and slumped onto the nearest chair, gazing out the window.
The journey seemed to last forever. I even drove past the maternity hospital. I was going to be spending a lot of time there at scans.
I lent over and pressed the button. I stood up carefully and grabbed the poles to make sure I didn't fall over. I could see James in the window. I took a deep breath and waited for the bus to stop.
James' POV
I could see Lexi's bus pull up outside the cafe. Id been anxiously waiting for about 20 minutes now. This is the first time I've really seen her since the party.
I took a deep breath and watched her step off the bus, wearing my hoodie. She pushed the door open and came and said down opposite me.
"Hi" she smiled weakly.
"Hey I've missed you" I smiled back.
"I've missed you too" she muttered.
"How have you been feeling" I asked.
"Sick" she said.
"Do you want some water?" I asked. She nodded. Then she suddenly bolted up and ran towards the toilets, her hand covering her mouth.
When she returned I passed her the glass.
"Anything to tell me Lex?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Her face drained of colour. I knew she wasn't.
"J-James" she stuttered.
"Yes?" I said, dragging out the 's'
"I'm pregnant" she blurted out.
"Your what?" I said shocked.
"Pregnant" she whispered.
"How far?" I asked.
"I don't know, I've got a scan later" she said sipping on her water.
"Whose the father?" I whispered. I couldn't be a father, not now.
"Don't worry, it's not you" she shot back.
"So who is?"
"Jason, he's my cousins friend" she replied frowning.
"Does he know?"
"Yeah but he fucked off" she frowned again.
"I can come with you, for support" I said quietly. She nodded.
"I need you there James" she whispered.
"And I'll be there" I reassured her.
"Thank you" she mouthed.
"Does anyone else know?" I asked, leaning in towards her.
"Jess, but you can't tell anyone else" she sternly informed me.
"I won't, promise" I smiled.
"Good, because I will kick you in the balls" she smiled for the first time today.
"What times the scan?"
"1 o'clock" she answered.
"We better get going then" I suggested as I pointed at the clock. It was 12.30.
She stood up. I stood up too and grabbed her and pulled her into a tight hug.
"You've got my full support"
Alexie's POV.
We finally reached the clinic after walking up the road towards the maternity clinic. James and I were early, so we walked in, I felt James reach for my hand. He held it tight, not letting go.
"Jason's a dick, but I'm always here for you, it's his loss" James whispered in my ear. His warm breath tickled my neck.
James and I walked around for what felt like an eturnity until we finally found the ward. Thankfully just in time too.
"Alexie Sandford" a woman called across the crowded room. James stood up and offered me his hand.
"I'll come in if you need me" he smiled. I nodded.
Hand in hand, we followed the lady into the room.
"Hello, my name is Jodie Dawson" the woman spoke.
"Hi" I croaked out. "I prefer to be called Lexi" I added.
"Good morning Lexi" Jodie laughed. "Is this the father?"
"No, I'm her best friend, the fathers been a dick and done a runner" James piped up.
"Do you get many young people in here?" I questioned.
"You'd be surprised, most are younger than you are" Jodie said.
"Will anything happen to the baby because I'm young?" I asked.
"No, as long as your healthy and keeping the baby healthy, you should be able to deliver a healthy baby" Jodie reassured me.
"That's good" I managed to get out.
"Well, today we will hopefully find your estimated due date and some tests to make sure both mumma and baby are fine" she spoke calmly.
"Right, Lexi could you go and pee in this cup please? we will be able to do tests and then when you return we will take some blood" she smiled as she handed me this small white plastic cup. I frowned a little bit. I didn't want to leave James with Jodie. What if he worked out how far I am? And work out that the baby is his.
When I returned, I did a variety of tests. I had my blood tested to make sure I was okay for the baby. Then my weight was taken for growth. Then I had my blood pressure and temperature taken so that I could track it throughout my pregnancy. I just wanted this baby to be healthy, because I think adoption is the way forward. I could give someone the family they can't have. I won't mention it in front of James. I don't want him forcing me to change my mind.
"Well Lexi, I can indeed confirm that you are pregnant" she smiled.
"Can you remember the date of your last period?" she smiled, looking at the computer.
"Yeah, it was 29th September, the day James left to pursue his dreams" I smiled back, looking at James.
"I'm surprised you can remember" James laughed.
"Us females have an incredible memory James" Jodie giggled.
"Yeah, and it's tracked on my phone" I added.
"Okay, well I would just like to remind you that only 3-5% of babies actually do arrive on their actual due date, so it's better to be prepared just before that just incase baby decided to come early or baby could be late" she smiled, still admiring her computer screen.
"Okay" I responded quietly.
"Right, looks like you are 8 weeks and 3 days along and baby's due date is Wednesday 8th July 2015" she smiled.
Brilliant, another 32 weeks of this.
"Would you like to hear the heartbeat?" she asked sweetly. I nodded instantly, the first time I could hear their tiny heartbeat. I wanted to act as normal as possible. I didn't want anyone to know I am putting this baby up for adoption.
"Right could you pop yourself on the bed?" Jodie asked as I followed her instructions. James moved over another seat and offered his hand for me to hold. I Iooked at Jodie and she looked at James.
She doesn't know does she? What did they talk about when I wasn't in the room? Or am I being paranoid?
Jodie lifted my shirt up gently and pulled my leggings down to my pubic line, so that she could use the doppler correctly. I took a deep breath and squeezed on James' hand.
"Lexi, the gel I am going to use could be cold so be prepared" she chuckled before squirting the gel onto my skin. I shuddered against the bed. She began to move the doppler over my lower abdomen. It was beginning to get a little bit uncomfortable as she pressed it harder into my skin, to make sure she could pick up the image of our baby as well as the heartbeat. It felt so weird.
Our silent room was then filled with the loudest and strongest heartbeat possible. I admired James' reaction, his smile broadened and so did mine. It then hit me, I was going to be a mum. And he was going to be a dad. Biological of course, but not raising them.
"Well bubba sounds healthy" she smiled as she began to wipe the cold gel off my stomach and she switched the doppler off, placing it back on the side.
"Now I know what Tom felt like when he was with Chelsea" James spoke.
"But your not going to be the father" I awkwardly laughed.
"I know, it's still incredible tho" James added.
"I suppose"
" Well, come back in 4 weeks for your 12 week scan, so go and make an appointment at the desk and I will see you then" she smiled as she began typing information into the computer.
We left the room in silence.
"That was amazing" James burst out.
"I know, wasn't it" I added.
"I can't wait to have children of my own" James smiled.
I let out a small frown. If only I could pluck up the courage and tell him that the baby on the screen was his.
