Chapter 23

(Y/N POV)

Life can be a dream.

I stood there awkwardly in between the two as they stared at each other in a mix of confusion and happiness.

"You're not going to hug me, dipwad?" Nina said, holding out her arms.

Aidan smiled, and pulled her into a giant bear hug. I was still holding the suitcases, so I decided to roll them into Aidan's room because I didn't know where Nina would be staying.

Aidan's room was a mess. It was like he was searching for something in his suitcases, because they were strewn about the floor in a frenzy.

"Yeah- sorry," he apologized, "I lost my hotel key card so I couldn't leave my room."

I nodded my head in understanding, and set down the two pieces of luggage. Nina came wandering in behind him, and she shook her head at the room.

"This looks worse than your room at home," she said, "if your mother was here she'd kick your butt."

Aidan looked scared for a moment, and nodded his head quickly. I glanced at my watch, and widened my eyes when I saw what time it was.

"Aidan, I hope you're dressed and ready," I said, "because we were supposed to be on the set 5 minutes ago."

"WE WERE?!"

"YES NOW GET A MOVE ON!"

I watched as he scrambled around his room for his stuff, and sped out the doorway in a hurry.

"Aren't you going to follow him?" Nina asked.

"Yeah, but I can take my time. I have an hour before I'm supposed to be there."

"Wow look at you, knowing your schedule," she said, "you take better care of him than I do."

"Not really, I just follow him around."

She smiled, and pulled her pink hair behind her ears and into a ponytail. Securing it with a yellow scrunchie, she shook her head to loosen it a bit.

"Are you going to come to set with us, or are you going to settle down first?" I asked.

"I think I'll come. My room isn't supposed to be ready for another hour or so."

"Cool, I'm going to grab some water bottles from walgreens first if that's alright with you."

"Yeah, that's chill."

By the time we got down to the hotel lobby, Aidan was already gone. I'd presume he'd be in his makeup trailer, making excuses for why he was late.

The walgreens was a couple blocks from the trailer park, so it didn't take long before we had our stuff and were ready to head back.

"So how did you and Aidan meet?" I asked.

"Our parents were friends before we were born. Not much of an origin story, but it's pretty sweet I know someone like him."

"That's cool. Has he always had his jealous temper? Sorry for asking, it's just something I've noticed over the past few days."

"Oh yes. Aidan's a good guy, but he still needs work on that. By jealous, what do you mean?"

"He hasn't really done anything extreme, but he has snapped at me a couple times."

"Oh. I wouldn't worry about it, that's just his way of showing you he cares about you."

"Really? Doesn't seem like it."

"I've known him my whole life. Trust me when I say he cares."

I stared at the pavement in front of me, counting my steps. Maybe I had been too quick to judge Aidan, and I might need to stop jumping to conclusions. But eden and the rest of the group told me those other things about him, so hearing these two different facts are leaving me confused.

Maybe I should listen to Nina, she's known him for longer.

As we were nearing the trailer park entrance, Nina received a text message on her phone. I didn't mean to be a snoop, but my eyes flickered over to her screen to see who was texting her.

Love of my life <3

Hey, are you guys almost here?

Nina typed in a quick response, and shoved her phone back into her pocket. She glanced over at my facial expression, and let out a laugh.

"You're probably wondering why his contact name is love of my life," she said.

"Yeah sorry, I shouldn't have been in your business."

"No it's cool, "she explained, "It's just a joke between the two of us. If I wasn't gay, I'd marry him. So he's the 'love of my life' in an alternate reality."

"That makes sense."

"But don't worry, I'm not trying to steal your man. He's all yours."

My eyes widened in surprise, and I waved my hands side to side.

"No, it's not like that," I said, "I don't like him."

Nina squinted her eyes and stared me down in suspicion. I looked away and started to increase my walking speed. I didn't want her to even think I was interested in him. Remember, I can't go getting attached.

I sped past security, Nina trailing behind me, and made my way to the makeup trailer. Aidan was sitting on the steps outside, dressed in his schoolboy uniform.

"Here, I brought your water," I said, holding the bottle out.

"Thanks, where's Nina?"

I spun around and stared into the empty lot.

She wasn't anywhere in sight.
