Chapter 2

(Y/N POV)

Can't sleep, love.

"I need a job," I said, walking into the living room, "where I can get paid."

My mom looked up from her laptop, and sent me a questioning look. I set my backpack down on the table, and rummaged through my folders. Pulling out a think piece of paper, I slid it in front of her.

Scranton Middle School

(Student requirements)

At least 2 weeks of intern or job experience

My mom read over it, her eyes rereading ever word. She shut her laptop and pushed the paper back over to me.

"Where does it say you need to get paid," she says, "and since when is this a requirement?"

"It's not required to get paid, I just want money."

"And what job are you planning on doing?"

"Preferably anything in the entertainment business? I'm not exactly interested in anything but."

My mom sighed, and pointed to my room.

"Well, you can search up jobs for yourself," she said, "let me finish my work, and I'll see what's available."

I smiled, and retreated into my bedroom. My mother was the executive producer for Hulu, so I bet she could find an intern role for me anywhere. I was still a little sad that I didn't get the role I auditioned for, but maybe this whole 'job' thing wouldn't be too bad.

I pulled out my iPad, and searched for employment availability. The only I found interesting was a music store clerk opportunity, but that meant I had to sit in a dusty shop for hours.

Not going to do that any time soon.

I slumped down onto my bed, and groaned into the pillow. I dreaded the day where I had to grow up and actually do work. Not to mention the laying of bills and taxes, ew.

My phone beeped from where it was in my desk, so I got up to grab it.

Amelia

Did you get the job requirement paper yet

Freshman usually have to do that

Me

Yeah

I don't want a job

Amelia

Tough luck

I've got a job opening at my work

Me

Don't you work at a Walmart?

Amelia

Yeah why

Me

Not interested lol

But thanks

Amelia

Eh that's a shame

Oh well beggars can't be choosers

Me

What

Amelia

Nothing

Forget I said anything

I shut off my phone and set it back down on the table. I guess if nothing else opened up for me, Walmart with Amelia would be my only option. Maybe that's what she meant?

I was about to go back on my iPad to keep looking, when I heard a tap on my door. My mom cracked it open and peered inside.

"Hey," She said, "find a job your interested in yet?"

"Nope."

"I just got off the phone with my boss, and they said there might be a job you'd like."

My ears perked up, and I sat straight in my seat. Anything that came from my moms work was entertainment based, so of course I'd be interested in that.

"What's the job?" I asked.

"Netflix is looking for a Cast member assistant," she explained, "you'd be in charge of getting coffee, lunch, and basically anything your assigned actor needs."

"Heck Yeah, I'm taking that job."

"You have to go to an interview first though," she said, "you can't get this job that easily."

"Fine, I'll do it," I said, "what's the show it's for?"

"Something called 'Umbrella Academy'."

I paused. Was she talking about the show I just auditioned for? No way, that would be way too coincidental to be true.

"I'll do it," I said quickly, "and I'm going to get this job."
