~ 71 ~
Aera went to her room in the company, packing her bags again. She kept her suitcase in the closet, hiding it in case Heeseung came in unannounced, and then she headed to the living room. She plopped down on the sofa and turned on the TV, flipping through the channels for a while before deciding there wasn't anything she could concentrate.
Instead, she tip-toed back to her room, not wanting to wake the boys who were hopefully sleeping. She took her writing notebook and a pen out of her suitcase and then tip-toed back to the living room, turning on a lamp and settling down on the sofa again.
She started writing lyrics to a song, singing to herself softly as she did so. As she sang, tears rolled down her cheeks. She kept editing and re-writing the lyrics, and kept singing softly. There were only three lines that she was satisfied with. The rest... it wasn't coming to her. Not yet.
Aera re-read the lyrics she wrote, wiping her face with the back of her hand. A love song. She was writing a sad love song.
Of course she was.
"You alright?"
She looked up, her eyes meeting K's. His face was gentle, concerned, and seeing him, she began to cry even more.
"Hey, don't cry," he said gently, sitting down beside her. His voice was laced with worry. "What's wrong? Do you need... something to eat? Some tea? A hug?"
He sounded so uncertain of himself that she couldn't help laughing a little.
"A hug would be nice," she admitted, blinking rapidly.
"Don't tell Heeseung, he'll kill me," K teased, gently patting her back as he hugged her. "Now, what's wrong. You shouldn't cry out here by yourself, you know. You should talk to someone."
"All of my dreams," she whispered, her voice breaking again. "They just seem so, so far away."
He kept an arm around her shoulder but leaned back, looking at her. "What are your dreams?"
Aera smiled sadly at him. "To be a songwriter. To work here, to write your songs. To make a lot of money to give to my parents, who work so hard. Too hard. And... to be with Heeseung. Happily. Without worries. But... will those dreams ever come true?" she asked softly, feeling her eyes well with tears again.
"They will," he told her confidently. "Don't give up, they will."
She nodded, unable to meet his eyes.
"Hey!" he said suddenly, sounding excited. "I have an idea! How about I teach you something about choreographing? Imagine, a songwriter who's also able to picture some of the choreography for her songs? That'll really set you apart," he said happily.
"You would teach me?!" She said excitedly, clapping her hands together. "Thank you! When can we start? Can we start tomorrow..." Aera trailed off, her face falling as she realized she wouldn't be here tomorrow. "Can we start next month?" She asked, deflated. "Don't tell Heeseung but... his mom is sending me away. To Australia. For a whole month."
K gaped at her in horror. "What? Why?"
"Because she doesn't like us being together," she said, shrugging. "She wants to tear us apart."
"Why are you going?"
"Because she's wrong," Aera said firmly. "I'm going to go away for a month, and it won't matter. Because something as small as that won't draw me apart from Heeseung, and she's dumb to think it will."
"I think it'll probably be a bit tougher than you're imagining but... go Aera!" he said, ruffling her hair. "I'll take care of Heeseung while you can't," he teased.
"You better," she said, bumping her shoulder into his. "But seriously... thank you. For everything."
"But I didn't do anything...?"
"Yes you did," she insisted. "You asked what's wrong. You stayed here and listened to me. You're here for me. You're a great friend," she said happily. "I'm lucky to have someone like you in my life. So are the others."
He pouted at her. "You're making me all emotional now too," he complained.
Aera laughed. "You have practice tomorrow, so you should get some rest," she told him gently, standing up.
"And you? You should get some rest too."
"I will," she assured him. "And thanks again."
"You take care of yourself in Australia," K said, hugging her once more before rushing off, back to bed.
