"Hi Mom!" Aera called, closing the door behind her as she entered the room. "Dad?" she said, surprised to see him sitting at the table, his hands folded in front of him. "You're home early today." 

He smiled sadly at her. "Sit down... we have something to tell you." 

Her mood dropped, suddenly realizing that he wasn't home for her birthday, but because something was wrong. 

"What happened?" she said softly, sitting down with her parents at the table. 

"I was fired today," he said. 

"What?" she whispered. "Why?" 

"We don't know," her mother said, blinking back tears. 

Aera's head was spinning. What now? What were they going to do now? How long would they be able to stay afloat while her father looked for a new job? 

She needed to make more money. 

"I... I have an idea. An idea that will help," she said softly, looking at both of her parents and remembering something that was offered to her in her contract. 

She could dorm at the company. They'd pay her meals. Her traveling time to school would be cut. She would work longer hours. According to the contract, even with deduction for food and board, she would still be paid more. 

She would do it, she had to step up now.
