Chapter 1: Having Fun in Gym Class... For Once

I was walking with Percy through the hallways of Goode High School. We both had gym next and we were approaching the entrances to the separate locker rooms.

"See you in a few, Perce!" I said, and he turned to me, smiling.

"In a few, Annie!" He said, leaning down to kiss me. I stood on my tiptoes to try and reach his lips without him having to bend over too far, but it didn't do much. Percy was just so damn tall!

We broke apart and went to our separate locker rooms. I opened my locker and put my books inside, pulling out my gym clothes, and quickly throwing them on. The sooner I was dressed, the sooner I was out of the locker room and with Percy. I know, I know. We've only been apart like two minutes, but after Tartarus, I need Percy to be within my line of sight at all times, preferably within reach so I could take his hand or just touch him to make sure that he was really there. I know that he felt the same way and needed the same things. I knew that even though that place had been so terrible for me, it had been worse for him.

I shuddered as I pulled my grey t-shirt over my head, trying not to recall that place. Slipping into my black shorts and my old tennis shoes, I quickly pulled my hair back into a ponytail and ran out of the locker rooms to the gym. My eyes darted around frantically looking for Percy. He was always out before me.

For a horrifying moment, I couldn't find him. But then I saw him. His raven hair was wild as always and his head was a few inches above the rest of the crowd. His back was turned as I gave a sigh of relief. As I ran toward him, I saw his foot tapping nervously on the floor, his hands twitched anxiously as his sides and his head whipped from side to side, looking for me.

"Percy!" I said, wrapping my arms around his waist as he turned instantly toward the sound of my voice. His sea-green eyes glowed with happiness and love when he saw me and his face lit up with his crooked grin when he saw me. His well-muscled torso was pressed against his shirt, making the grey material stretch and fit itself to his shape. His long, muscled, extremely strong legs pushed him closer to me. I pressed myself as close as I could to his lithe, fit, well-muscled, strong body.

"Hey, Wise Girl!" He crooned, wrapping his strong arms around me as well. He kissed my forehead and we pulled away from each other, resolving to just holding hands for the moment. I saw some other girls swoon and gasp and begin to hyperventilate as every girl in the class looked at my boyfriend. Percy heard them and turned to look, raising one eyebrow quizzically. Most of the girls stifled squeals when he glanced at them. Others were able to keep their composure and even blinked flirtatiously at him, giggling.

I rolled my eyes, trying to hide how jealous I really was. Who do they think they are, trying to flirt with my Seaweed Brain!? I thought angrily. Percy just shrugged and looked away, continuing to his spot on the gym floor. We reached his spot first and he kissed me once more before letting go of my hand so I could walk to mine.

I stood in my squad line as the gym teacher, Mr. Montoya, walked in and headed for the front of the gym. (A/N does anyone get that reference?)

***Time Skip!***

It was the middle of the period and everyone was spread out around the gym, doing multiple kinds of workouts with a partner. I gazed madly across the gym to where Percy was working out at the weight lifting station with a girl named Daisy. Mr. Montoya had picked our partners and then sent us off to different stations. Percy got paired with Daisy, and I got paired with a guy named Tyler.

Right now, Percy was effortlessly lifting the twenty-pound weight, it was the heaviest one out but Percy makes it look like lifting a feather, as Daisy struggled to lift the ten-pound one. She was talking to Percy and he was looking everywhere but her, his face slightly red in anger. He was scowling and looking annoyed when his eyes traveled around the gym and met mine. Instantly it vanished, replaced by his crooked smile. I smiled back and then we both turned back to our stations. But not before I noticed Percy grab another twenty-pound weight and add it to is hand. He was now easily lifting forty pounds.

Gods, Percy is perfect. I thought as I turned back to my task. Tyler and I were at the easiest station: Sparing. Tyler had needed a break so we had stopped for a few minutes, that's when Percy and I had looked at each other from across the gym.

Tyler was still sitting on the floor panting, covered in sweat. He had been trying to beat me for ten minutes now. I was perfectly fine. I wasn't out of breath and I wasn't sweating. This was too easy.

I could tell that Tyler was trying to best me as hard as he could. At first, he had been skeptical, weary, uncomfortable fighting a girl. He took it easy on me, afraid of hurting me. I had snorted at his idiocy and beat him in a moment. After that he slowly began to try harder, pushing to beat me. He was failing. I smirked as he struggled to his feet.

"Ready to try again, Tyler?" I said. He nodded, not wanting to waste his breath.

He picked up his foam sword, and I pulled my foam knife out of my pocket. He stood in his ready stance, his feet spread apart, his arm bent slightly and off to the side, his sword arm out in front of him. I stood as I was. I was relaxed and just eyed him slowly, my knife hanging at my side, my other hand in my hip and my feet splayed only a few inches apart.

He lunged forward with a stab of his sword. I stepped out of the way and the foam sword missed me. Tyler's momentum carried him forward even farther and I watched as he whirled to face me, his sword going up. I stood still as he advanced slowly, cautiously. I smiled at him.

"Come on, Ty! You can't even take on a- what did you say the other day? That's right, 'a puny, weak, useless thing.' Is that what you think girls are? Well then, you should meet my friend Thalia. She'd quickly put you in your place." I taunted him as I danced away from his furious stabs, slashes, and jabs. He growled.

"Come on! I can't beat you because you won't fight back!" He said, pausing. I paused in my dance as well.

"You want me to fight back?" I asked skeptically. He nodded. "Okay. Your choice." I shrugged. As he set himself back into his stance, I dashed forward, quick as a snake, and smacked the hilt of my foam weapon into his stomach. I then backed up as he doubled over and disarmed him with the move that Luke had first taught Percy. The foam sword fell quietly to the floor and I kicked it out of Tyler's reach. Then, I brought my foot forward and kicked him to the floor. He fell on his back and in an instant I was on top of him with the point of my foam knife to his throat. He stared at me in shock and I laughed.

"How's that for fighting back?" I asked. He just stared at me. I got off of him and offered him my hand to help him up. He took it and pulled himself up. Then, he grabbed me and pulled me closer to him, pressing his lips to mine. My eyes widened and I punched his chest, trying to get him off me. But he pushed back, shoving himself closer to me.

I brought my knee up and hit him where the sun-don't-shine, but he just bent over me. I tried to pull away again. But he wasn't having it. I yelled muffled things around his mouth, most of them profanities.

The next thing I knew, Tyler was off of me and lying on the floor. Percy was behind him, his sea-green eyes flaring with anger. Tyler was gasping for breath, his face was red and his eyes wide. Percy bent over and picked him up by the front of his shirt. Tyler's feet dangled a few inches of the ground. My boyfriend then pulled back his arm and punched Tyler in the face. Not strong enough to break anything, but hard enough to give him a black eye tomorrow.

"Never try to kiss my girlfriend again. If she wants you to kiss her, she'll do it. But if she wants you off, then you get off. Or I will take you off. Understand? Next time you won't get off with just a warning." Tyler nodded and Percy dropped him back to the floor. He walked over to me.

"Thanks, Percy." I said, falling into his waiting arms.

"You okay?" He asked me.

"Yeah. I'm okay. He just wouldn't get off." I shuddered and buried my face in Percy's shoulder as he held me close.

"Well, if you're okay, then I guess I should be getting back to my own station, huh?" Percy pulled away slowly and looked at me with his crooked grin lighting up his face, jokingly punching me lightly in the shoulder. I cracked a small grin of my own.

"Yeah," I laughed. "You probably should." He laughed too and then kissed me on the forehead before heading back to the weight lifting station. He fitted two twenty-pound weights into each hand and began to lift them easily, looking bored. He glanced around and saw that everyone was staring at him with open mouths and wide eyes. He paused.

"Is there a problem?" He asked, looking at everyone. Our classmates quickly shut their mouths and turned back to their stations. Some of them spun around so fast, they tripped over their own feet and fell flat on their faces, scrambling back to their feet and returning to what they were supposed to do. I laughed. That's my Seaweed Brain for you, able to do anything. Still smiling, I turned around and watched Tyler slowly pick himself up off the floor.

"Ready to continue sparing?" I asked, he quickly backed up, his eyes widening in fear, and shook his head animatedly. "Well then? What are you going to do?" Tyler shook his head again and ran away. I watched, confused, as he approached Mr. Montoya. Then it came to me and I smirked. He wanted a new partner, to switch with somebody. Mr. Montoya nodded and pointed to Daisy and Percy. Good, I got to be partners with my Percy!

Mr. Montoya walked over to the weight lifting station and started talking to Percy and Daisy. I could see he was standing closer to Daisy and his eyes never left Percy, eyeing him wearily. Percy's face lit up in a smile, but Daisy frowned, apparently sad that she wasn't partners with Percy anymore. Percy laughed and I could hear the beautiful sound from the other side of the gym. I smiled again.

Percy dashed past Mr. Montoya, Daisy, and Tyler so fast, he probably gave them whiplash, or vertigo. In an instant, he was by my side, having moved so fast that even my ADHD brain had trouble processing it. He picked up the foam sword that Tyler had dropped and slipped into his familiar fighting stance.

"Ready?" He asked with a smile.

"You know it! Maybe I'll even beat you this time, Seaweed Brain." I smirked and his smile grew bigger, brighter, and even more beautiful. I stared into his sea-green eyes, which was a dangerous thing to do, because I could easily get lost in them.

"We'll see about that." His voice brought me back to the surface and I readied myself for the onslaught that was to come. I saw his eyes flash and he lunged forward, swiping with the foam weapon. I dodged, ducking under the swing and bringing my knife up to place a stab on his stomach, but he was already backed up and was out of my reach.

I don't know how long we fought, but it was intense, like when we trained together at camp. We had been going a long time by now and I was sweaty and panting for breath. My muscles burned and my attempted attacks were getting slower, making it easier for Percy to beat me. My Seaweed Brain was sweaty and panting, but he was as sharp as ever, never faltering and never slowing down.

I lunged forward desperately and slammed the hilt of the foam dagger into Percy's left side. He groaned in pain and I gasped. I had forgotten! How could I have forgotten!? Percy had an old, incredibly painful, evil looking scar there from when Gabe had abused him as a child. It was a ragged line that ran from his armpit to his ankle. Gabe had taken a knife and pulled it drunkenly down his side, thus it was ragged and evil looking. But, being Percy's girlfriend, and a demigod, most of his scars looked evil to me. Then again, most of them were from Gabe.

"Oh, gods, Percy! I'm so sorry! I am so, so sorry!" I gasped out the words as we continued to spar, not pausing for more than a few moments.

We continued to spar until Percy swept my feet out from under me, knocking me to the ground and put the tip of his fake weapon against my throat.

"Still think you're gonna beat me this time?" Percy panted, looking down at me with a smile. I laughed and shook my head.

"No one can beat you, Percy." My Seaweed Brain laughed and offered me his hand. I took it and he pulled me to my feet. We glanced around and noticed that the whole gym was once again staring at Percy in shock and I smirked. No one had ever beaten me before, but no one had fought Percy either.

"Everyone go... Go change. The bell will ring in a few minutes." Mr. Montoya stuttered. Everyone ran for the locker rooms. We all got changed and the bell rang. I walked out of the locker room and looked around for Percy. A hand grabbed me from behind, wrapping around my waist. For a moment, I panicked, letting my instincts take over.

But my instincts said that this hand meant comfort and safety. Then my mind recognized it as Percy's. I could recognize the shape of his hand on my side, the warmth, its strength, its gentleness, and its deadly accuracy. I swear, Percy had the best hand-eye coordination of anyone I had ever known. Except when it came to shooting a bow and arrows. Other than that, Percy had perfect aim.

"Hey, Wise Girl." Percy's soothing voice came from behind me.

"Hey, Seaweed Brain." I breathed, sighing in comfort.

"Let's get to class." He said, and Percy's firm but gentle grip leads me to our lockers.
