Chapter 2
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE'S MY SON?" Michael nearly yelled at his imp, slightly glad that he had had Devin be put down for a nap.
He had sent his imp to see if he could find out who Devin's parents were, with a sample of blood of course. While normally he wouldn't be too interested, what kind of mother left a five-year-old outside his home?
Now, however, he was staring at his imp in shock as he reported back to him.
"The tests indicate that he's the biological son of a succubus named Maren and yourself, sir." His imp repeated himself and Michael shook his head.
"That's not possible- Unless." He walked over to his book of deals and such before searching for the mother's name.
"Sir?" The Imp asked when he stopped dead.
"Imp, I would like you to locate this succubus, Maren was it? And ask her why the HELL she thought it was OK to leave my SON ALONE in the middle of HELL." His imp stared at him in shock before nodding and leaving in a rush.
Michael slumped in his chair. He couldn't believe it. He had a son. A son he had no idea he had had. His fist clenched. Not only that but his son had been left alone by his mother. The thought made his blood boil. How DARE she. If she didn't want his son, then she could have left him with him or even at one of Hell's orphanages. But no. She chose to leave him in the middle of Hell, alone and scared.
And she could be sure as Hell that she wasn't getting custody over his son back.
Before he could ponder this anymore, he heard a scream. While not an unusual sound in Hell, this one concerned him for a reason. It was the scream of a young child. And currently the only young child he knew of in his castle was...
He shot up out of his seat and ran to the room where Devin was supposed to be. He nearly flung open the door only to be met with the sight of Devin curled up in a ball, crying his eyes out. With a sigh, Michael walked over to the bed and gently prodded the little Incubus' wing to get his attention. Devin took one look at him and surprised him by leaping into his arms and sobbing his heart out.
"Devin? Little one, please calm down." Michael tried to shush the little incubus but to no avail. Devin just sobbed harder into Michael's chest.
Something protective stirred in Michael as he started to rock Devin back and forth to try and make the little boy stop crying. He didn't know exactly what it was but he had an idea.
Maybe this was what it felt like to be a parent?
