So I decided to get creative and write *6* RENT, mostly Roger-and- Mimi-centric, mini-oneshots based on six songs that came up in shuffle in a Spotify playlist of mine!

"Love Don't Cost A Thing" by Jennifer Lopez

One day, reflecting on her experiences dating Benny and Roger, she realized that they were way different. For one, Benny had money. And when Mimi dated him, he would try to sweep Mimi off her feet with flashy stuff, like expensive watches and taking her on drives in his Range Rover. However, she realized "This stuff won't make me feel loved . I don't need to be iced with bling, I don't need to ride in a Range Roger, I don't need cash, I don't need this flashy watch , all that stuff to make me feel loved. My love don't cost a thing". With Roger however, things were different. Roger may not have as much money as Benny, but that didn't matter to Mimi. When she and Roger are together, they could be raw, and Roger made her feel loved. That is why she ultimately chose him.

"In The Morning" by Jennifer Lopez

As the sun started to rise on an early Saturday morning, Mimi woke up. She and Roger had spent the last time getting freaky after a night at the club. "Morning, Meems," Roger said, having just woken up himself. "Hey," Mimi said. The couple kissed. "Hmmm....Rog?" Mimi asked "Do you love me?" she asked, half teasingly and half serious, "'cause if you do, you should say it in the morning after, too," she said, smiling. "I love you, Mimi Marquez, and I will always love you for the rest of my life," Roger said. And he meant those words. With that, Mimi and Roger shared a small, lovely kiss.

[A/N: AU where Roger makes it REALLY big but he kind of loses touch with his friends and loved ones in the process]

Roger was living the life. He got his band back together and they had gotten a record deal and made it big. He and his band had toured the world and had many, many adoring fans. However, on one particular sleepless night, he couldn't help feeling empty. He had come SO far from where he was before, in the East Village in New York, but after he had made it big, he kind of lost friends with his friends, especially Mark, and with Mimi. He realized that everything he truly needed was basically his friends and loved ones, at home. The life he was living now was good, but in the end, the most important things to him are "on the ground".

Mimi couldn't imagine having a worse week than this. She had recently gone through a pretty bad breakup with Roger. She had also recently gotten her drivers' license, and that made things worse, because she was reminded of how Roger was always excited about her driving them around to places in New York. As she drove around and around the New York City streets, she was crying. She saw the places where she and Roger used to go on dates, and that made her feelworse. Of course she and Roger were not perfect, no couple was, but this whole situation just made her feel emotions she'd never felt before, and she still loved him, she really did. As she arrived to her apartment building, she let out a sad sigh.

Mark, Roger, Mimi, Maureen, Joanne, and Collins all decided to spend Saturday night at the club. The music was booming and many people were either at the bar or the dance floor. Mimi went out the floor to dance herself. As she started to dance, she caught the attention of a lot of men, and the bartender had to fend off some of them. "Wow! I never knew she could dance like this," Roger said. "Oh, honey, you know my hips don't lie!" She teased back. She bought Roger out to the floor with her and they dominated the dance floor that night. "Eso es perfecto" she whispered.

It was the middle of the night. Mimi was stirring on her side of the bed. "No...stop..." she said in her sleep. Roger woke up from his sleep because of Mimi's movement. "Mimi? Meems? What's going on?" he said. "PLEASE! STOP!" Mimi then jolted up awake, panting. "Mimi? Are you all right?" Roger immediately asked, and Mimi came into his arms. "It was terrible....this nightmare..." she said. "What happened?" Roger asked. "Well..before I started seeing you...or Benny...I was briefly seeing this guy...and he...he would get physical on me..." she breathed out. "Oh, Mimi...I'm so sorry," Roger said, comforting her and stroking her hair. "He didn't deserve someone like you...and you didn't deserve to go through that," he said. "I know...and I am a fighter. I stood up to him and left him, and I also went through a lot the last couple years. And I know that I am more than capable of pulling through," she said. "Yeah, I should know," Roger said. After a few minutes of cuddling, Mimi went to sleep soundly and peacefully in Roger's arms.
