A year and a half since Sally had married Gabe, and the once happy feeling she had gotten from him is now cleaned dry. He had her working twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Hardly anytime for rest. The money she makes is spent for beers, for gambling, for buying prostitutes even though he's married. The once clean apartment, once filled with laughter and smiles, is now one filled to the brim with trash. Bottles of beer scattered all across the room, some broken and stain with blood. Others dropped in piles with dirty laundry and used condoms. Gabe had sucked the happiness from the family of two. With Sally gone and out of the house almost 24/7, Gabe had Percy all to himself.

Days of endless beatings. Abuse and neglect to which scars him from his arms and head, to legs and back. The torture is a never ending cycle for Percy. Seeking help is useless when threatened. And the eight year old is scared for his mother's and his life if he doesn't behave.

"Little shit!" Gabe called out waking Percy from his slumber. "Get me more beer would'ya? Make yourself useful."

"Yes, sir," Percy replied quietly getting up from his bed and leaving his room only to get hit by Gabe. "The fuck are you still doing here?! I said GO GET SOME MORE BEER!!"

"Yes, sir," Percy runs out of the house, grabbing some of the money on the poker table.

"And be back quick!" Gabe yelled

Percy ran down the stairs of the apartment building, careful not to fall. (If Percy gets hurt, he deals with it and Gabe beats him for being weak and clumsy.) He ran out of the building and down the street. Pedestrians looked curiously at the eight year old boy running down the street, money clutched in his hands. He passed the park and saw children his age playing and laughing with their family and friends. A luxury he no longer had the option too. Tears welt up in his eyes when he saw the father and son playing. Sprinting fatser, he had to get away from the park. Memories of the father that left him rose from the safe he had locked them in.

The gas station attendant looked up to see Percy walk quickly to the back and to the counter. "Kid, you cant buy those. You're too young."

"They're-They're for my stepfather," He placed the money on the counter. The attendant pushed the money back to him, "Can't kid, sorry."

Contemplating his choices, Percy looked down and then-"hey! Get back here!"

Percy grabbed the beer and ran from the gas station. The eight pack of Budweiser tucked under his arm as he sprinted back to the apartment. Yells of police officers and the gas station employees faded the further he got. The pedestrians on the sidewalk moved to the sides, letting the skinny black haired boy run past and off to who knows where. Percy ran up the stairs of the apartment building and to his apartment, trying not to disturb the other residents he's seen all his life. Skirting to a stop he opened the door quietly, hoping not to bother Gabe.

"You're late!" Gabe yelled. "What took you so long?!"

       Percy stayed quiet.

       "Answer me fucker!!"

"The lad-" Percy began but was cut off by a punch to the face. "Did I tell you to speak?!"

Gabe ripped the beer from Percy and walked off. Percy sat on the ground holding his bruised face, tears welling up in his eyes. He got off the ground and slowly made his way to his room and laid on the bed till he fell asleep.

Later that night, Sally came home. Her once brown hair that never had a gray line, was now almost white. The stress of living with Gabe and putting up with his demands that could end her's or Percy's life. And she doesn't want that, she wants him to see his father again. At least one more time. Unlocking the door, she stepped into the dirty apartment, over the small piles of beer bottles and trash. On the couch was a heap of fat and sweat. Gabe.

She walked past him as quietly as she could but he woke up. "The fuck were you last night?"

"I was working," Sally answers slowly moving away from him. "You needed more gambling money, I was getting you more."

"Did I say you could work last night? I wanted some from you, but since you weren't here, I had to use that whimp." He took a drink from the opened beer oo the end table next to him.

"What?!" Sally yelled furious. She let him do whatever he wanted to her, but he crossed a line when he messed with Percy. "You raped my son?!" storming over to him, she attacked. With a swing she hit him, but the next was blocked. Back and forth the attacks came, Sally struck him in his jaw that made him stagger back a bit.

"That's it, I've had enough of this bullshit." Gabe grabbed an empty beer bottle from a trash pile on the ground. Smashing it against the wall, he charged at Sally, attempting to end either her or this fight. She tried her best to avoid the bottle. It was a hard thing to do for the trash on the ground blocking her ways to escape the weapon. Her foot always got caught on something as she evaded his attacks. But one unlucky step caused her to fall, Gabe stepped forward, looming over her he raised the broken bottle. "Good riddance."

Percy peeped his head out fearfully from his room.

He heard his mother scream from the living room, wanting to help her but to scared to, he hesitated. Percy thought to himself the pros and cons of helping his mother. Pro would be: helping his mother. Con: encountering Gabe, getting hurt by gabe, the high possibility of being killed by gabe, or that horrible thing he did the other day again. But deciding that helping Sally was more important than himself, he left the not-so-safe sanctuary of his room to where Sally had screamed.

"Hey brat! Get your ass over here!" Gabe commanded when he heard the door to Percy's room close.

Percy stepped out into the living room and saw the body of his mother. The broken bottle gutting out from her abdomen, slightly leaning down letting blood stain her clothes and the dirty floor beneath her. His mothers eyes were wide open and lifeless, mouth hung open with blood on the corners. Her Sweet on America uniform still had the bag of candy in her pocket that she gave to Percy every pay day.

Percy fell to his knees. Tears falling down unable to stop them, and with a burst of energy, he charged at Gabe. Though he couldn't do much being only eight years old, but he did as much as he could.

Soon enough, their neighbors came to see what was goin on. They heard yells and screams emanating from the apartment, they didn't want to be nosy and intrude, but they became concerned when loud thumps were heard as if they were running. A woman in her late forties knocked on the door and waited for an answer and heard nothing but the sounds of breaking glass and stuff getting knocked over. A child's yell and a drunken man's cursing echoed to the quiet hallway where two other tenants of the floor waited. When the woman opened the door, she saw Sally dead on the floor and her husband attacking her eight year old son. Blood oozed from the cut on his hair line and scratches lines his fingers as he tried to pry Gabe's hands away from his throat. As for Gabe, his face was scratched and bleeding, a bruise or two scattered his arms and a large cut was seen on his upper bicep. The woman ran to her apartment and grabbed her husband and her eldest son to help as she called the police.

Within a few minutes, the police came and restrained Gabe. Some of them examined Sally's body and told the tenants that she had sadly passed a few minutes prior to their call, and it was no doubt about it.

One officer, a nice young lady in her early twenties, pulled Percy out to the lobby of the building. "I'm sorry for what he did, and we're going to make sure he won't come back for a very long time, Alright?" Percy nodded his head sadly. "Are you comfortable with telling me your name, sweetheart?"

     "Per-Percy," he answered. "Percy Jackson."

"Thank you Percy," the lady smiled. "Will you be alright if I drove you to the station? I don't want to harm you more than you should have been today."

"It's alright," Percy replied and followed the officer to her car. He sat in the front seat, looking out the window of the car he saw the streets he grew up around. He saw the road that lead to his school and the park he passed to get Gabe his beer.

"Mr. Stark, you have a call." Jarvis announced to the billionaire in his lab.

"Who is it?" Tony replied tweaking his repulser.

"New York Police Department," Jarvis answered the phone.

"Tony stark speaking," Tony said to the open air to which he knew the other person on the line heard.

"Hello Mr. Stark, I'm Officer Judy Harrison and I have some news for you," the officer said. "I'm afraid that your sister, Annalise, has died." Tony stayed quiet. He hasn't heard that name since she left pursuing her beliefs of being her own person. "She was murdered by her husband earlier this afternoon. I'm sorry."

"It's...It's alright." He released a breath he'd been holding since the officer told him. "Is that all?"

"No, it isn't," the officer answered. "Would you please some to the station on east one-hundred-and-second and third?"

      "Why?"

"Annalise had a child and he is now in your custody as his closest family member," Officer Judy answered Tony. She was slightly impatient that he had to know every detail on the phone and not in person, but she kept her calm. "So please come and take custody of him."

"Alright, I'll be there in a few." Tony hung the phone and hid his face in his hands. He took a short moment to collect himself before he went to get dressed.

Putting on a simple dark colored suit, he told pepper and Jarvis that he was going to be back. Not telling them where he was going but that he'll bring back a surprise. He entered the elevator and pushed the button to the garage. Tony grabbed a random set of keys and walked to the car that corresponded to them. He came to his dark green, and slightly glittery, open top corvette.

As he drove to the station he was told to, realization hit him like the truck that almost did. He found out his sister was dead after thirteen years and had a child not so long ago. He was both sad and happy. Sad that his sister died and he hadn't known where she could've been or helped her, but happy that he was finally meeting his nephew he never knew he had. Albeit it wasn't how he wanted to meet his nephew, he'd prefer it to be Annalise who introduced the child to him.

He parked the car and took a deep breath before he started making his way to the station. Tony didn't know what to expect of the child. Never hearing anything , or knowing anything about him. But if it was his sisters child, Tony knows that he wouldn't be rude and awful. His sister wasn't like that as a person and like hell she would let her son be like that. "Hello, I was called because I'm now the legal guardian of a child here?"

"Mr. Stark, this way," an officer motioned to him from the opening on the right. She was relatively short and very skinny, but healthy nonetheless. Her platinum blonde hair was pulled back to a pony tail that fell on her shoulders. "I'm office Judy Harrison, I called you about your nephew and your custody of him. Please follow me so that way we can get the paperwork done and so you can meet him."

Tony stayed quiet for a bit and thought of what he was going to say next. "How old is he?"

"He is eight years old," she said and opened the door to, Tony assumed, her office. "His name is Percy, and he is the sweetest child I have ever met. Please sit." She motioned to the chair in front of her desk.

Half an hour later, most of the paper work was signed and in order for Tony to be the guardian of Percy. Though he hasn't seen Percy yet, he has an idea of what he could look like. Judy told Tony that she'll be back for she went to get Percy. Tony sat in his seat and waited impatiently, he wanted to see him and know how much he looked like his sister. He wanted to know how his sister died and why she did, but the officer wouldn't tell him.

"Mr. Stark, this is Percy," Judy startled him from his thoughts. "He is your nephew, and Percy, Mr. Stark is your uncle."

When Tony turned around, he saw a mop of black hair and emerald eyes. His face had bandages here and there. One on his nose and chin, butterfly bands in his forehead and hair line, along with a black eye. His clothes were dirty and smelled of stale beer and blood. He looked sad. A kind of sad a child that young shouldn't experience.

"Hey," Tony bent down to meet Percy eye level. Percy stepped back a bit, uncertain if the man in front of him was nice or not. "I'm Tony, your uncle. Let's get you home, Alright?" Percy nodded and gave Judy a hug before leaving with Tony.
