Opening Up Shop

The next day, Michael wasn't in bed when I got up. I sat up and yawned before seeing him sitting in front of the TV. He was watching Halloween. I chuckled as he flinched whenever there was a sudden jump scare.

"You catching up on your Halloween movies?" I asked with a smile. He turned to look at me.

"Is this man real, Timbyr? Do I have to protect you from him?" Michael asked. "Also, where are the human police? Surely they heard the ruckus and sent someone. Right?"

I chuckled at Michael. He was so innocently adorable. "Aww Mikey. No, he's not real. And scoot back from the TV. You'll hurt your eyes," I said. He did so and moved back to where I was, sitting on the couch. "You hungry?" I asked.

He nodded. "Yes, very."

I chuckled. "What do you want to eat? Human food only," I said.

"Uh... I don't know... I've only been on Earth for a couple of days," he said. His stomach growled loudly.

"I'll make us pancakes and bacon," I chuckled. His eyes lit up.

"A human gave me bacon when I was trying to find you!" He beamed. "It was amazing. Would you really make that?"

I laughed at his excitement. "Of course Mikey. Come on, you can help," I smiled. He was so adorably excited.

So for the next half hour I made breakfast with him. He was surprisingly helpful, and he only made one mess. He had accidently dropped an egg, but apologized profusely for it. Of course, I promised him that it was okay and that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. He felt terrible about it anyways, but perked up when I gave him the first piece of bacon.

"I make this once a week, Mikey, so enjoy it," I chuckled.

"Thanks," he smiled. I let him sit on the counter while I finished breakfast. We talked quite a lot. It was mostly me asking questions and he answering, but still, at least we got along.

"Michael, what's heaven like?" I asked curiously.

"Very... Sunny. There's a big, big house with a bunch of different rooms for different souls. On the other side of the house are rooms for us angels. We share rooms. You know, Castiel with Balthazar, Gabriel with Raphael, me with Luc-" Michael cut himself off. He took a deep breath and looked down, going quiet.

I walked over and put my hand on his knee. "Mike?"

"Anyways," he continued. "I don't want to talk about heaven anymore."

"Okay, I'm sorry for bringing up whatever I brought up," I apologized. I gave him a gentle hug as he got down from the counter. He hugged me back and nodded.

"It's okay," he said softly. I rubbed his back before pulling away from him.

After a second of silence, Michael asked me, "what do you do all day?"

I shrugged slightly. "Mostly just sell to hunters, or read some spells. When the kids get out of school they usually come here for some lunch. I make sandwiches for all of them. The orphanage doesn't feed them really well," I said. "I'm their second mom," I chuckled.

Michael was smiling so fondly. "That's amazing, Timbyr. You probably mean to world to those little orphans."

"Well, I just want to do what's best for the little ones. They deserve so much better," I said softly. Then I reached out and grabbed Michael's hand. "Come on, let's head downstairs and get ready to open up shop."

Michael followed me downstairs and helped me take inventory. Then he ran up and asked if he could flip the open/closed sign. I chuckled and nodded. I didn't care, it wasn't a big deal to me. I guess because it was so human he had never done it before.

We only had a few customers, and Michael spent most of his time as a dog. He would play with the very little children that wandered into the shop with their parents. He would gently nudge them and lick their cheeks. They loved him and hugged him while he gently tickled them with his nose.

I smiled at them. When the customers did leave, Michael pranced over to me and I pet him. You're so good with kids, I thought.

I'm the eldest brother in heaven. I've only raised, I don't know, a thousand little angels.

I chuckled at his sassiness as I watched people outside walk by. Still adorable.

Shut up, I'm a powerful archangel that can throw dimensions like baseballs.

You're a familiar, Michael, calm down.

For the rest of the day Michael and I talked telepathically. He would go get me things for display, but he stayed a dog for most of the day.

When the kids came by after breakfast, I ran up to get the sandwiches. When I came down, Michael was on his back as the little kids rubbed his belly. He was enjoying himself thoroughly. I chuckled and put the sandwiches down. The kids ran to the table and grabbed one each. They knew how to share. "What's his name, Miss White?" Asked a five year old by the name of Preston.

"Michael," I smiled. Michael rolled on his belly and got up, walking over. "You kids can pet him, just don't touch his tail please," I promised.

Thank you, Timbyr.

I patted Michael's back and sat on the counter as the kids looked around the shop and played with Michael. Some people came in just because, but I only sold some soul dust.

It only happened once, but a small girl who just wanted to touch Michael ran her hand down his tail. I got a soft burst of laughter in my head and Michael ran behind me. I told Sofia, the little girl, not to do it again.

Later that night, Michael turned human and surprised me when I turned around. He laughed when I jumped.

"Kids are fun," he smiled sweetly. I chuckled.

"Why? Because they give you belly rubs?" I smiled, reaching out and patting his belly. He had rock hard abs.

"Not just that," he scoffed like it was obvious. "They're quite endearing, actually. Adorable."

I smiled. "Yeah," I added as I closed up shop and locked the doors. Michael wiped off the counter like he did that morning. I counted the money and put it in the register.

"Come on, Mikey. Let's go upstairs. I have some leftover chicken," I promised. He smiled.

"Chicken is good. I've had that before," he said. I chuckled.

"Good, because that's what we're eating," I smiled. We walked up the stairs and Michael helped me set up dinner. We ate beside each other and talked. It was just calm chatter. He asked questions about human things. Like, "do humans really eat alligators?" and "have you ever been to France? I've heard it's so beautiful."

"No, I've never been to France. Maybe one day I can take you. I've heard so many great things," I smiled softly. He smiled back.

"That sounds nice."

After dinner, Michael told me he could take the plates downstairs and I could shower. I decided to trust him and got into the shower, washing up quickly and then getting out in my pajamas and a hoodie. Michael was sitting on my bed, reading a spell book.

I sat down beside him and smiled softly. "That's a good one. It taught me my favorite spell. The invisiblity spell."

"Let me guess," he smiled. "You use that to walk around unnoticed by others?"

I laughed. "Yes," I said. Then I caught a whiff of his clothes. "Shit, I forgot to buy you some clothes. We'll do that tomorrow."

"Nonsense," Michael snapped his fingers and he was changed into some new clothes. "The perks of being an archangel."

I chuckled. "You still need to shower. Go," I said, pushing him into the bathroom. Then I fell on my bed and yawned softly. Michael was like living with an excited 5 year old. I was starting to enjoy it.
