Good Witch

I got this idea off tumblr and decided to try to write something like it, so I don't own the idea of familiars and witches and stuff.

Hi. My name's Timbyr. I run a tiny shop about a mile from the local middle school and two doors down from the orphanage. The kids like to call me a witch, but I'm the good witch. I don't have the average everyday stock, like bread and milk. I have griffin feathers and fairy bones and vamp teeth. I even have the feathers of Lucifer himself! I'm not selling those unless whoever wants them gives me good money. Anyway, I'm not a bad witch. I don't kill for money or destroy people who piss me off. I help people. The kids at the orphanage come to me sometimes so I can summon them up some food and new clothes, all for no charge. The people who live around me bring in their sick and weary so that I can help them out. It's a lot cheaper than going to the hospital, I swear.

Well, it was a cold night, and my watch had just beeped to show that it was time to close up. My house was on the second floor of the shop, so I didn't have to shiver through the night. I went to shut the shop up but I saw a small dog sitting outside. He didn't have a collar, so maybe he was a dog that ran away from the orphanage. A couple of the kids can sneak them in to keep them company and maybe this one was left outside on accident.

"Hey there little one," I said, letting him in. If he was from the orphanage, he didn't need to stay outside. I would keep him until tomorrow, and then ask around to find the owner. Anyways, the brown, gray, and white Australian Shepherd was shivering and covered in mud from the rain. "Aw, poor thing. Come on, let's get you warmed up," I picked him up and pressed him to my body, even though he was huge, before allowing him to cuddle into me and warm up.

The moment I entered my living room he jumped down and ran through it, tracking mud all over the clean carpet. "Come on! I just cleaned up!"
He looked up at me with sweet green eyes and I couldn't stay mad at him. I took him into the bathroom and sat him down. "Let's get you cleaned up." I smiled, turning on the water. When I turned away, the dog pushed a container of bubble soap in the water, and I laughed. "You like bubbles?"

"Arf!"

"Okay then," I chuckled and pulled the container out, watching the bubbles form. Once the tub was full enough, I placed the pup in and rubbed my hand through his fur, washing the dirt. "I'm gonna go clean up your mess. Don't make another mess."

I went out and cleaned up the mud before walking back to check on the pup.

There was no pup.

"How ya do-HOLY MOTHER OF CHEESE!" I turned my head from the completely naked man in my tub. "I've never seen one before!!"

He pushed the bubbles over his privates and turned bright red. "Hey!"

"What are you doing in my bathtub and where is the Australian Shepherd??" I cried.

"I am the Australian Shepherd! I'm your familiar!" He cried. He had dark hair and green eyes, just like the dog, and even little pieces of mud in his hair. "Uh. Sorry you had to witness that."

"Me too! What the hell?" I said. I had to admit, the man was handsome. I walked into my room and got some oversized sweatpants and a huge sweatshirt. "Just-just wash up and get dressed!" I ordered, throwing the clothes and a towel at him.

I sat on my bed, waiting for him to get out. I just saw a dog turn into a naked man in my tub, I thought. This was not in the job description. I don't get paid enough for this.

Speak of the devil, the man came out of the bathroom. His hair was messy and damp, but at least he was dressed. "I didn't know where to put the towel so I just folded it on the toilet," he said. "My name's Michael, by the way."

"Michael, hi, my name is-"

"Timbyr White, I know. I was sent to protect you," Michael interrupted.

"What does that even mean?" I asked.

"I was an archangel, but now I am a familiar. You're a very powerful witch," he explained. "My father sent me to you so that you don't get hurt. I have a telepathic link with you, so when I am in dog form we can communicate without you looking like a total weirdo."

I sighed and rubbed my temples as he said this. This was a lot of information for me to take in. "So... You're like my gaurdian angel?"

"Basically, yes," Michael agreed.

"Okay," I breathed. "You know what Michael? How about we talk about this more in the morning. Do you prefer to sleep in human or animal form?" I asked. That was an odd question to ask.

"Animal," he said. "It's much easier for you to let me sleep on the floor, correct? Not a problem," he smiled sweetly before turning into a dog and prancing over to the floor beside my bed.

"No, no, Michael," I chuckled. "Come on, this is a big bed and I can't let you just sleep on the floor," I smiled. He lept on the bed and got comfortable beside me. I reached out to pet his long fur, right behind his ears.

That feels so nice, said a voice in my head.

Michael? I asked.

Yeah, it's me. You can pet me, but don't touch my tail, please. I'm ticklish and I will bite you.

I laughed out loud. Wouldn't dream of it.

Michael cuddled into my side and licked my cheek gently. I fell asleep with the dog, still petting his back gently. Maybe having a familiar wouldn't be as weird as I thought.
