Chapter 44 - An Enjoyable Lunch

Kai's POV

I suck in a deep breath as I shift in my car seat. My eyes are closed and my hands are clasped under my chin. "Hi Gabriel, this is Kai Baros again. I hope from what I've told you over the last week that you have decided to help us. I know Raziel has been trying to contact you as well, I hope you'll hear him out too."

I've prayed to Gabriel everyday for the past week. Raziel told me that while he was in Heaven, he could only hear my voice when I spoke out loud to him, and he said it should work the same with Gabriel as long as I focus on the archangel. So far, neither of us have gotten a response from Gabriel, but we're both still trying.

"Lance's only crime was that he loved too much. Declan would have been even more of a mess if Lance never returned to earth or even if he left after his year was up. I'm almost sure he would have been in jail had it not been for Lance's influence. Lance did everything he could to keep him out of trouble, and he shouldn't be punished for loving Declan unconditionally.

"Melkopnius is still in a lot of pain. Raziel isn't able to heal them, and they're a dear friend. They're very important to Zorander and have been becoming increasingly important to my life and Raziel's. So please help them.

"And while I have you, if you could help Raziel get his wings back, that would be awesome. Raziel isn't the same Raziel that you might have known. He treats me like I'm the most precious person in the world. He cares about my mundane life and even scolded me when I skipped school. I think he deserves a second chance and I know that Raziel would never do anything like what he did ever again. Thank you for listening to all of my prayers, Gabriel." I have no idea if he heard any of them, but I can only hope. "I really hope you'll help us."

I sigh and open my eyes before turning on the engine and heading home. Hopefully Gabriel has decided to help, if not, I'll pray to him again in the morning.

My dad calls on my way home and we catch up. Our relationship has gotten much better over the past few weeks; he hasn't visited much but we talk at least twice a week. Although he and Raziel now get along really well, his relationship with Declan is still a bit rocky.

Declan is at least talking to him now, but the two of them having a conversation is like trying to mix water and oil. It just doesn't happen. They both, however, are trying so I think that with time and continued effort they'll get along.

Once I park the car in the garage, I grab all the grocery bags from the car, suppressing a squeak when one of the bags tumbles to the floor. "That's what I get for not making two trips," I mumble before pouting and hurrying inside.

"Kai?" Raziel calls out moments before his head pops into the room. "What are all these bags? Why didn't you wake me?" He grins and pecks my lips once he takes all of the bags from me.

"It's food for my angel and you looked so peaceful," I say with a tiny giggle before heading back into the garage to pick up the bag which fell earlier.

When I enter the kitchen, Raziel is stuffing a handful of grapes into his mouth. Those and strawberries are his favourite fruits, and I have to restock them once every two to three days to keep up with how quickly he eats them.

He rushes towards me and takes the bag from my hand, and I can't resist poking his stuffed cheeks. "Such a cute squirrel," I coo as I poke them again.

Raziel grins, and I giggle when I see the purple skin of the grapes suck to one of his teeth. "I'd be the world's biggest squirrel!"

I giggle harder and press a kiss to each of his cheeks before going to put away the groceries. He follows and after putting down the bag, he pops a few more grapes into his mouth.

"Don't fill up on grapes."

Raziel stops in his tracks looking between me and the grapes before a pout forms on his lips. Cheeks still filled with grapes, he says, "Just a few more?"

How could I say no to him! "Okay, but Declan said his mom cooked a lot so make sure you save room for food."

He grins and ends up eating a few more grapes and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich while he helps me put away the groceries.

Once we're finished, we shower together, fooling around a little in the shower before we get dressed and head to Declan's house.

As soon as we pull up outside of the house, the door flies open and Declan rushes out to greet us. "Peanut! Raziel!"

Raziel gives Declan a complicated handshake followed by a high five and the two grin at each other. Declan taught Raziel the handshake a couple days ago and my angel loved it, so now that's how he and Declan greeted each other.

Declan squeezes me into a tight hug, being sure not to crush the bouquet of flowers in my hands. "Come on, mom is really excited you're here."

He leads us inside and Lance is standing in the doorway grinning from ear to ear. "Declan's mom is an amazing cook. You'll love it!"

"Kai!" Marian embraces me in a hug, and when she pulls away, I give her the flowers. "Oh sweetie, you didn't have to bring me anything." Marian sniffs the flowers and smiles before tugging me back into a hug.

"And you must be Raziel." She holds out her hand for a high-five and Raziel grins and obliges her. "Declan told me you're not a huge fan of hugs, but he mentioned you liked high fives."

Raziel nods and flashes Declan a smile before Marian leads us inside. My eyes widen when I see the amount of food she prepared. There's rice, macaroni pie, scalloped potatoes, tossed salad, roast potatoes, corn soufflé, baked chicken, steamed vegetables and lamb stew.

"Holy heavens! That's a lot of food. It smells so good!"

A wide smile spreads across Marian's face, and it's clear that she already loves Raziel. We take turns piling food onto our plates while Marian asks Raziel about his family.

"They died a while ago." Noticing Marian's smile slipping, he quickly adds, "I mourned them for a long time, but I know their souls are happy now."

I once asked Raziel where the souls of angels go when they die and he told me that the souls of both angels and demons are different when compared to human souls. They don't have memories or voices, but are just little balls of light, usually the same colour as their wings, or black in the cases of demons.

God or Satan then send these balls of light to their final resting place somewhere around the galaxy where they help form planets, landforms or plants. Though Raziel doesn't know where exactly his parents ended up, he knows that they're happy.

"Raziel has an uncle that lives not too far from us. His name is Zorander," I say, and I giggle when Raziel scowls.

Lance and Declan giggle and Declan adds, "Yeah and Zorander is the principal at our school."

"Oh, you didn't mention this before," Marian says.

"I only found out recently." Declan flashes his mom a smile before glancing at Raziel who continues to bore holes into his head which causes Declan's smile to widen.

When Marian refocuses on Raziel, a smile instantly replaces his glare.

"You'll have to invite your uncle over for a meal, if he's not too busy," she says, and Raziel grudgingly agrees.

The rest of the afternoon passes with Marian getting to know us as we enjoy the delicious food that she made.

Declan offers Lance a plate of food and while he gets a puzzled look from his mother, both he and Lance are happy that Lance can be included in the lunch. Raziel eats two heaping servings of food which has Marian singing him praises while I revel in the family atmosphere.

After dessert, Raziel and I thank Marian and she lets us know that we can come back at any time. Declan and Lance walk us to the car, and I let them know that even though they are no longer living with us, they are welcomed over at any time.

"How about a bubble bath and cuddles?" Raziel asks as we walk towards our house. I giggle and nod in agreement and he grins and plants a kiss in my hair.

His eyes suddenly widen and he speeds up as we approach the door. Stepping inside, I gasp when we find a tiny man wearing a loose, white dress shirt and loose, linen pants, similar to the clothes Raziel was wearing the first night I met him.

His curly, auburn hair looks windblown and is sticking up in odd directions. Big, light brown eyes sparkle with joy and his strawberry coloured lips are pulled up into a smile. A warm, yellowish green aura twinkles, swirls and flutters around him as he flashes us a smile.
