Chapter 33 - The Party

Disclaimer: I am not condoning underaged or irresponsible drinking. The drinking age in my country is sixteen and in some other countries that is also the legal drinking age for the alcohols mentioned in this chapter. With that in mind, all the characters that will be consuming alcohol in this chapter are seventeen or older.

Kai's POV

"You look amazing," Raziel whispers as a radiant smile lights up his face. He cups my face and presses a chaste kiss to my lips before his eyebrow knit together. "But was there not enough colour for your entire jacket?"

I burst into a fit of giggles and I hear Milan who is leaning against the back of the couch nearby giggling as well. "That's just how it was made, it's a style," I force out through giggles.

Raziel frowns, running his hands down the front of my opened Jean jacket. One side is a light pink colour that matches my hair, and the other side is a solid jet black colour. "Won't you be cold?" he inquires, examining the thin, plain white shirt I'm wearing underneath.

"We're taking a car to and from the party, and the party is inside, so it should be okay," I reply, stroking my angel's cheek.

"The Uber is here," Milan announces and the three of us head out to the waiting car.

On the short walk to the car Raziel tries to give me the white bomber jacket that he is wearing so I wouldn't be cold which has me giggling and cooing at how incredibly sweet he's being.

"Kai?" Milan, who is now sitting in the front seat, turns around to face me. "I've been putting off asking you this all evening, but weren't you bullied by a guy named Declan?"

"Yup, it was the same Declan we went shopping with today. We worked it out. Turns out, he's my brother."

Milan's eyes widen and she gasps. "Your parents sent him off for adoption but kept you!"

"What?" My eyebrows knit together as I try to figure out how she jumped to that conclusion. "I guess I should have said half brother. My dad had another child, and we only recently found out we were related."

Realisation dawns on Milan's face and she nods, spinning back around in her seat. My mind drifts back to earlier that evening. My make out session with Raziel was getting heated, and we even moved things to the bedroom, but Milan showed up and interrupted us.

I thought she was going to be coming over much later, but apparently she only went home to grab her makeup and drop off some of her shopping before coming over. Raziel seemed annoyed that she interrupted, but wasn't mean to her. However, he didn't really want to hang out with us, so he ended up napping while Milan and I chatted and continued getting to know each other.

A few minutes later, we arrive at Jax's house where the party is being held. Given the number of cars parked outside of his house and down the street, it seems like the entire school is here. The thumping sounds of EDM music can be heard from outside the door, only increasing when we manage to fling the door open and step into a dimly lit room with colourful strobe lights.

The back wall is lined with beer kegs, and red plastic cups are stacked upside-down in pouches attached to the sides of the kegs. To the right are some sofa chairs and a couch which look like they were pushed to the side to make room for the dancefloor, which is framed by massive speakers on either side.

To the left is a DJ, thoroughly enjoying himself as he jams out to his own music. Most of the people are on the dancefloor, holding their red cups and enjoying the music while others are making out on the sofas or refilling their drinks at the back.

"Raziel!" Ayaan screams, rushing over and hugging Raziel who scowls but awkwardly pats Ayaan's back. Raziel's scowl only deepens when Ayaan pulls me into a tight hug before hugging Milan. "Let's get you drinks!" he yells, downing the contents of his cup and beckoning us to follow him.

"I don't want to drink, could I just have juice," I ask Ayaan as he fills a red cup with beer.

He nods and points to a row of water coolers on a table in the corner, and I head over there. I grab a cup and take some orange juice before returning to Raziel's side.

Raziel frowns at his cup but drinks the entire thing, holding it out for Ayaan to refill it. Before we left home, Raziel asked if he could drink because the people on television made it seem fun. I agreed right away because I wasn't planning on drinking, and I thought it could be a learning experience for him. I'll let him experience the joys of a hangover on his own.

I drank for the first time a few weeks before Raziel came into my life. My dad had several bottles of wine and some beer lying around the house, so one weekend, I was bored and decided to try alcohol for the first time. I had some beers and a few glasses of wine. It was fun; I blasted my music and danced around my house, but the night ended with me throwing up on my favorite bathroom mat and passing out on the cold bathroom floor. My headache the next day seemed to last forever and I vowed, never again.

Ayaan leads the three of us to another room where there are a few tables set up for beer pong, another keg and some plastic chairs stacked to the side. This room has much more lighting than the other room, and the music isn't as deafening, so we can actually hear each other without yelling.

"Do you want to play beer pong?" Jax asks, approaching us with Hunter trailing behind.

My face lights up and I nod. "But can Raziel drink in my place?"

"You and Raziel versus me and Jax? I'll drink for Jax so it's even," Hunter says with a smirk, pushing Jax to the other end of the table.

Hunter explains that to win the game, we have to make the other team remove all of their cups by throwing a ping pong ball into the opponents' cups. He also tells us a few other rules before we play a quick game to decide who starts. Hunter and Jax's team wins that game, making them the first to try landing their ball in one of our cups.

Jax rolls up the sleeves of his sweater and aims the ball. I watch in horror as the ball flies towards our side of the table and lands smack in the centre of the first cup of our ten cup, triangle shaped formation, earning Jax's team their first point. "Oh did I forget to mention I rule at this game." Jax smirks and gives Hunter a fist bump.

I pout and give that cup to Raziel to drink. Hunter shoots next but misses, so it's mine and Raziel's turn. This is my first time actually playing, so it's really no surprise when I shoot the ball and miss.

Raziel pecks my cheek. "Don't worry, Kai." He grins and takes off his bomber jacket, revealing a grey T-shirt underneath which shows off his biceps. He launches the ball forward and it lands in one of the cups in the back row on Hunter and Jax's side of the table, earning us our first point.

"You did it!" I cheer, hugging Raziel who is all smiles. The game continues and Jax and Raziel seem to be equally good, sinking ball for ball, while Hunter and I are completely terrible, not managing to sink a single ball.

"I blew it out!" Hunter screams as the ball spins right out of the cup after he blows on it.

"No! No! You didn't say it in the rules at the beginning, no changing it now," Ayaan yells from the sidelines, and Milan nods in agreement.

Hunter pouts, but concedes and chugs the drink. Jax scores a few more points, and the alcohol seems to be catching up with Raziel. Now we only have one cup remaining and the other team has five. Raziel looks back and forth between the cups and a look of determination settles on his face. "The lone cup in the left corner," he slurs.

If the ball lands in the cup Raziel said it would, Jax and Hunter have to remove two cups of beer and drink it. I hold my breath as Raziel launches the ball. It flies through the air towards the cup. A gasp escapes me followed by an excited squeal as I watch the ball land in the cup. I rush into Raziel's waiting arms and we bounce up and down while we hug.

"No! Your elbows were too far forward!" Hunter protests, slurring his words even more than Raziel.

Milan scoffs and chimes in. "No it wasn't! They were behind the edge of the table!"

"You're so beautiful," Raziel murmurs, pulling my attention away from the argument which is now in full swing. "And everything about you is so," his eyebrows furrow as if he's trying to find the right word, "perfect. Yes, you're perfect."

I giggle as one of his hands strokes my hair and the other one traces patterns on my face.

"Hey, lovebirds," Jax mutters and we both turn towards him. "They settled it, you keep the points."

"I can't drink anymore," Hunter whines, looking at the two drinks which he's supposed to drink. Raziel walks over to Hunter and downs both drinks like they're water. Hunter looks at him in awe and attempts a bow but trips and Raziel ends up catching him. "Thank you. You're an angel," Hunter all but yells embracing him.

"Kai, how does this human know?" Raziel asks, the confusion evident on his face as he frees himself from Hunter and returns to my side.

Hunter frowns. "Know what?"

"Nothing. Is it my turn?" I ask, picking up the ping pong ball and whispering to Raziel that it was only an expression. Without giving it much thought, I toss the ball and it lands in a cup, causing Raziel to erupt into a loud cheer and squish me into a hug. "Since both Raz and I scored, we get to go again!"

Raziel also sinks that ball, now each team only has one cup and the pressure is on. After four misses by each team, it's Raziel's turn again. He kisses the ball, then holds it up for me to kiss which I do after giggling at how silly that is.

We've gathered quite the audience during our game, so everyone is watching expectantly, hanging on to every movement as Raziel throws the ball. It soars the short distance, hitting the rim of the cup before falling into the liquid.

The people watching erupt into a cheer and Raziel scoops me up and presses a kiss to my lips.

"Hey Peanut," Declan greets me after Raziel sets me on my feet.

I roll my eyes at his nickname but giggle and take the hug he's offering.

"Kai, do you want to play that game again?" Raziel asks, looking incredibly excited about playing again.

"Not really, but I'll watch you play."

"I'll play on your team," Declan says and Raziel grins and nods before moving away to tell Ayaan and Milan that he will be playing with Declan.

My eyes scan the area around Declan. "Where's Lance?"

A frown forms on his face but he quickly masks it with a smile. "At home. He's not coming." Before I could say anything else, he pats my back and walks over to Raziel. My eyebrows knit together, and I move to the side to watch, hoping that I'll get a chance to talk to Declan later.

Thank you for reading! ❤
