The Old Playground

"No, don't touch anything!" slapped Àmber Louis' hand away as he was about to touch one of the wraps on his kitchen counter. "You're just gonna ruin it".

"You're not any better, Am" puffed Louis huffy.

"That's why I'm sticking to the milkshakes and let Aria do her thing" shot Àmber back, knowing she had won this one.

"But it's my date. I should at least help to prepare the food" complained Louis whiny.

"He has a point, Lia. Let him do the sandwiches" sided Aria with him reasonably.

"You're the best, Ari" pressed Louis a sloppy kiss to her cheek in happiness.

Aflutter, Louis started to prepare some simple sandwiches while Aria finished up the wraps and the more 'complicated' sandwiches. As hard as he tried, his sandwiches looked weird in the end but he was proud of himself for doing them on his own without help, even if they looked strange. Well, compared to Aria's food his sandwiches looked like shit but he had tried his best and it was more important that they tasted good anyway.

"Are you quite done? Tommy has to pick Harry up in an hour and hasn't showered yet" came Zayn out of the bedroom into the kitchen impatiently.

"Take him with you. We take care of the mess here" gestured Aria to the messy and dirty kitchen.

"You're a blessing, Ari" blew Zayn her a kiss.

"But my blessing" hugged Àmber her from behind.

"Gosh, couples" rolled Zayn his eyes when he dragged Louis with him back into the bedroom.

Zayn shooed him into the bathroom and Louis just complied. He was thankful for his friends' help. Alone he would have never managed to prepare the food or be ready in time. Standing underneath the hot water of the shower, Louis tried to wrap his head around the current situation. He was really going on a date with Harry now and it wasn't a dream that turned into a nightmare. This was reality.

Stepping out of the shower, Louis dried himself and his hair off and fixed his hair until it was in a styled but messy fringe swept to the side. He brushed his teeth and put on his best cologne, double eleven. With a towel wrapped around his waist, he walked back into his bedroom where Zayn was waiting with his picked clothes lying on the bed. Zayn had chosen them while Aria has been busy in the kitchen. That was what they called division of work.

Examined, Louis eyed the clothes Zayn had chosen. Because they were simply going into the park the outfit didn't need to be all fancy. That's why Louis was looking down at simple black skinny jeans and a faded-blue sweater. He put the clothes on and looked at himself in the mirror on his wall. The sweater gave him sweater paws and the jeans hugged his bum and thighs nicely. Louis could actually admit that he looked okay for this date.

"You look stunning, Tommy. Harry will be speechless as soon as he lies his eyes on you" noted Zayn praisingly. "And probably horny pretty fast. Damn, those jeans look good".

"Thanks, Javy. That's what I really wanted to hear" snorted Louis sarcastically.

"Sorry. I couldn't help myself" grinned Zayn unashamed.

"Let's just hope Haz can help himself. I want an innocent date. You know, just us and no ...".

"I know what you mean, Tommy" cut Zayn him off softly. "You'll get that. He wanted to take it slow, remember? Everything will be perfect".

"I hope you're right" bit Louis down on his bottom lip insecurely.

"My date with Evan was good although it was simple and a typical 'cliché', some might say. You're date is so thoughtful. Harry's gonna marry you right on the spot" assured Zayn him surely.

"It's enough if he stays until the end" sighed Louis out.

"The trust in him will come in time, Tommy. Don't stress yourself so much over this. I know you do. Give it time. He won't leave again" walked Zayn over to him and gently rubbed over Louis' upper arms.

"You're right. Thanks, Javy" smiled Louis openly at him.

"No problem. Now you should get your basket and get the fuck out. Your date is waiting and you don't wanna be late, do you?" nudged Zayn Louis' chin lightly with his fist.

Immediately, Louis rushed out of his bedroom and back into the kitchen. Aria held his basket ready in her hands and just handed it to him with a chuckle. He put on his shoes and his coat and left the flat, leaving Zayn to lock the door when the three of them left. With excitement bubbling in his stomach, Louis reached Harry's front door and pressed the bell. In the old days he mostly just walked in because he had a key but nowadays things were different and this was a date. He couldn't just walk in uninvited.

"Louis Dear, good to see you. Come in. Harry is almost ready" opened Anne the door and invited him in.

Suddenly nervous, Louis walked inside and took a deep breath. He could feel Anne's eyes on him and didn't know if it was a good or a bad sign. Out of the corner of his eye, Louis also spotted Gemma on top of the stares grinning down on him and for some stupid reason, that relaxed him. Gemma has always been a really good friend and a supporter of them for years. She had always routed for them to get together.

"You look nervous, like you're about to vomit any second, Jonno" spoke Gemma up bluntly. Louis loved this girl.

"If, then I'm gonna vomit on you" replied Louis sassily.

"You're gonna run all the way up the stairs to puke on me? Aww, that's what I call true love" cooed Gemma exaggeratedly.

"Why are you nervous, Darling? You don't need to be. Harry is really excited for today and well, I am as well. I'm so happy for you, Louis" joined Anne their conversation.

"Thank you. I'm just inexplicably nervous and I don't know why" confessed Louis honestly.

"It's normal to be a bit nervous before a date. It's gonna get better. I'm just really happy you two worked this out and Harry came to his senses. You've always been a part of this family, Louis. Now more than ever" pulled Anne him into her arms and hugged him tightly.

"I don't know what to say" mumbled Louis into her shoulder.

"How about Hi because your boyfriend is ready" suggested Gemma in a playful voice.

Immediately, Louis' head shot up and he broke away from the hug with Anne to look up at his boyfriend, who was standing on top of the stairs. Harry looked like a princess to him today. He was wearing simple blue skinny jeans matched with a lilac over-sized sweater and a headscarf to keep his curls out of his face. On top of all of that, his cheeks were really pink and Louis hoped it was because of him. With every step down the stairs they held the eye-contact until Harry stood right in front of him like a living dream.

"Hi" breathed Louis out in awe.

"Hi" smiled Harry shyly at him.

"If you prefer to stare at each other, fine. More food for me" tore Gemma them out of their trance.

"Shall we?" offered Louis his arm to Harry and grabbed the basket with his other hand.

"Yeah, sure" interlinked Harry their arms after putting on his coat and shoes.

Together they left the house and made their way over to the park. Their park. Surprising Harry with going there. He hadn't told him the destination. Louis just hoped the weather would stay like this. Rain would only ruin everything. Close to the playground, Louis stopped and took out a picnic blanket. He lay it down on the ground and helped Harry sit down. Then he placed the basket in the middle and started to unpack the food, feeling nervous again.

"What is all of this?" gaped Harry at the many food items.

"Sandwiches, wraps, a salad and two milkshakes" answered Louis anxiously.

"You made all of this?" marvelled Harry at the sight.

"I wish" chuckled Louis lightly, earning a confused look from Harry. "You know I'm useless in the kitchen. Aria helped me but Àmber insisted on making the milkshakes. So, if they're bad it's her fault. But I made these sandwiches".

"They look absolutely delicious. Thank you, Lou. This is so thoughtful. All of this. Choosing this place for our first date and preparing a picnic. Already the best date ever but maybe that's just because of you" was Harry obviously impressed.

"Thanks, Haz. I wanted this day to be monumental. I never want us to forget about it, no matter what happens in the future. This will forever be the date" blushed Louis slightly.

"It really is" gazed Harry dreamily into Louis' eyes before looking at the food again, picking up one of Louis' sandwiches. "We should try these out".

It turned out that the milkshakes actually tasted good and Louis' sandwiches tasted better than they looked. They shared the salad although Louis despised salad and each ate a wrap. Aria really had done an amazing job with the food. Throughout the whole picnic they talked effortlessly with each other and it never got awkward and Louis was thankful for this. He loved talking to Harry. It was his favourite thing to do apart from kissing Harry.

Around the time most of the children left the playground, the boys packed their stuff together and went over to the swings. Carefree, they laughed and made a challenge out of who could swing higher. They both failed because they couldn't stop laughing. Afterwards, they went for the climbing frame and sat down by the slides just like in the old days when they were kids. Out of the sudden, Harry seemed sad and downcast and Louis got worried. What was going on?

"Haz, what's wrong? Did I do anything? You wanna go home?" checked Louis concerned.

"You didn't do anything, Lou. It's all on me" looked Harry into the distance, sounding very sad.

"What is on you? Haz, what are you talking about?" wondered Louis perplexed. Where was this sudden mood change coming from?

"Do you really not know that? It's ... Lou, I still feel absolutely horrible because of the fake-dating thing. I really wish I would've never put you through all of the pain I caused you but there is no way I can ever undo my actions. Being here in our place makes me see again what I've ruined. Here is where we met. Here is where you came out to me. Here is ... where I've lost you" opened Harry up to him with a tremble in his voice.

Immediately, Louis reached for Harry's hand and squeezed it tightly, turning his low-hanging head towards him. "But you have me back, Haz. Maybe we got lost along the way but we found our way back to each other. I won't deny that you really hurt me but we agreed on leaving this in the past and moving on. We're working through this. Both of us. Together, Haz. Please, stop putting yourself down because of s ...".

"I can't, Lou" cut Harry him off, tears rolling down his cheeks. "I feel so immensely guilty and can't stop ...".

"Can't stop what?" hooked Louis when Harry just stopped talking.

"Can't stop myself from blaming me for breaking your soul" breathed Harry out with hurt-filled eyes.

"You didn't ...".

"Don't. I know it's true. Don't lie to make me feel better" interrupted Harry him again. "You once said yourself that I broke your heart like a shattered glass of wine, beyond the point of ... You said thanks to me you'll never be able to love and trust anyone ever again. I know you were talking about loving someone else than me but you can't deny that you don't trust me and maybe never will and I understand that. How could you? I made you believe that I'd leave you for anyone, no matter who without looking back".

"I was drunk, Harry. And yeah, maybe I meant that but not like ... You can't beat yourself over this. We can fix this, Haz. We're on a good way. You have to forgive yourself one day. Forgive yourself, Harry" wiped Louis away all of his tears. "I forgave you".

"You did?" looked Harry at him with big red puffy eyes.

"Of course, I did. Do you think we would be here if I didn't? I might have to work on the trust thing but we're getting there, Haz. We can make it and you wanna know why?" cupped Louis Harry's face into his tiny hands determined.

"Why?" asked Harry barely above a whisper.

"Because you are my soulmate, Haz. We will always be together. Life won't always be easy on us and we will have our moments and problems but it will all be worth it because you are my person. You are my reason. You and no one else. Just don't leave me now because you're still feeling guilty. This would break me, Haz" locked Louis eyes with him and felt his own tears being dangerously close to falling down.

"I could never leave you again, no matter how selfish this is. You're my everything, Lou" rushed Harry out quickly like his life depended on it.

Because there was nothing left to say, Louis just kissed him sweetly here in the place where it all began and ended. They kissed for a while until Louis could feel a single raindrop on his cheek. He broke away and glanced up at the dark and grey sky. They really needed to leave or they would end up soaking wet on a playground.

Hand in hand, they rushed to Harry's house but got in the rain nonetheless. Shortly before they had reached the house, Harry stopped them in their tracks and simply crashed their lips together in the middle of the pavement in the pouring rain. The wetness was unimportant. The freezing cold was unimportant. The rain falling down on them was unimportant. The only important thing was their kiss.

Completely wet, they entered Harry's house and stumbled up the stairs and into his room. They got rid of the drenched clothes and changed into comfy sweats and jumpers to warm them up. Louis felt so good and comfy in Harry's clothes. They smelt like him and now Louis as well.

"You look cute in my clothes, Blue" commented Harry from his lying position on the bed.

"Why Blue though?" lay Louis down next to him, completely ignoring the comment that might be true.

"Because the colour of your eyes make me feel like home. There is no such shade. Your eyes are special, Lou. You're my blue. My ocean eyes. No, my Angel Eyes" nuzzled Harry his nose into the crook of Louis' neck.

"Only fair, Curly" blushed Louis deeply.

Suddenly, a loud thunder sounded in the distance and made Louis jump in fear. Oh, how much he hated thunderstorms but his fear of it was something he hated even more. It was ridiculous and so pathetic. Embarrassing but he couldn't help it. The next thunder made Louis actually whimper in fear.

"Sh, I'm here, Blue. I'm here" pulled Harry him into his arms protectively.

"Like you've always been" was Louis literally shaking.

"Not every time but now I'm here" stroked Harry over his back soothingly.

Louis wanted to say something but his fear took over when the thunderstorm increased outside. They hid underneath the covers and Louis snuggled up to Harry, who had his arms protectively around Louis. With his nose buried into Harry's chest, Louis could relax a tiny bit and felt really tired out of nowhere. He knew he could fall asleep here because he was safe. He has always been safe during a thunderstorm in Harry's arms. Since they were little kids. And now he was back at his safe place and knew he had no reason to ever be afraid gain. He was safe.
