My Ex Best Friend.

Requested by SmilySrusty

Hobi found a family with BTS. When  he joined the band he had no idea how close he'd become with all of his members. He had a lot of emotional walls up, especially when it came to friendships.

He had a lot of bad luck in his highschool days when it came to friends. Most people didn't even want to look at or talk to him, let alone be his friend. He could count on one hand the amount of people who actually cared about him back then and most were family members.

He had a best friend, or what he thought was a best friend at the time, named Seuni when he was in highschool. He and Seuni did everything and went everywhere together. Hobi didn't realize it at the time but most of the time they would hang out was because Seuni made him feel like he had no other choice.

"No one else is going to hang around ya," Seuni would often tell him, "I'm pretty much all you've got." Hobi always felt a bit pressured to do the things Seuni wanted to do, even if he personally was against it. He didn't like partying, but Seuni would drag him around to parties. He didn't like being out late but Seuni would drive them around and refuse to bring him home until he was done doing whatever it was he felt like doing. A lot of times Seuni would even ditch him when he took him out places to go meet up with other friends.

Hobi always wondered why he spent so much time with someone like that but he had convinced himself it truly was all he had. Every memory of hanging out with anyone from highschool, it was always with Seuni. He was also the only one Hobi ever told his feelings to or talked about his problems with.

Like the time Hobi confessed to liking a girl in his class to Seuni. But his best friend went and told her and then he ended up getting bullied for it. It wasn't until his senior year of highschool that Hobi realized he didn't want to be as close of friends with him anymore. He realized it was almost becoming detrimental to his mental health. They never got into any huge fight or anything, but Hobi stopped hanging around as much and Seuni quickly filled his life with many other people. Hobi felt like their entire friendship probably meant nothing to him.

Now that he was in BTS, Hobi knew what it felt like to have true friends. People he actually did enjoy hanging out with, people he actually could tell his feelings to without judgement. He never got into detail about his hard feelings about his old high school friend, as far as the members knew, Seuni was Hobi's ride or die back then. He spared them the details because talking about how he actually felt throughout that entire friendship made his heart heavy. It was better to live and let die. He still wished the man well, wherever he was. Being ten years ago, Hobi sometimes wondered if Seuni ever thought about him and how he had treated him. BTS was a popular band now, Hobi figured his old friend had heard of or seen them at least once. He wondered if Seuni felt proud of him.

To his own surprise, one day while ordering a coffee at a small side street cafe after practice, he ran into Seuni. Or more like Seuni ran into him. He came over and instantly wrapped his arm around Hobi's shoulders.

"Well I'll be damned! If it isn't the Jung Hoseok!" Seuni smiled. Hobi smiled back, he really wasn't sure how he felt about the very unexpected reunion.

"How have you been man?! It's been what, like ten years at least?!" Seuni gestured for Hobi to sit down at a table and chat for a bit. Being the kind soul that he was, he took a seat and decided to stay.

"I see you're in that band now! What is it again? BB something?" Seuni chuckled.

"It's BTS," Hobi replied. He tried to hide the slight offense he felt.

"Right right. Cool gig! Kind of funny how you go from having no friends at all to well, you know, all that. I hope you didn't forget all about your ol' pal! Hey, let's take a picture together just like old times!" Seuni took out his phone and instantly snapped a selfie of the two before Hobi even had a chance to reply. He wasn't able to get a single word in, Seuni just kept talking and talking.

He asked how life had been, how being in the band was, stuff about his family. Hobi was finally able to talk and they started reminiscing about their old high school days. Hobi realized that every single memory Seuni brought up made him not feel great. He didn't understand how he managed to hang around the guy so much when they were younger.

Seuni ended up inviting Hobi to a party at his house, he didn't live too far outside of Seoul. He originally politely declined, but then Seuni told him he could bring his members too if he wanted. That sparked Hobi's interest. The members always did ask about the guy, maybe they could finally meet him. He wasn't too sure why he was drawn in to going, maybe it was the sense of nostalgia, he wasn't sure, but at least this time he wouldn't be showing up as Seuni's shadow.

Hobi went home that night and told everyone how he'd run into his old friend and they were all invited to his party. The members got excited and eager to meet the guy who got to know Hobi when he was young.

"Maybe he can tell us embarrassing stories!" Jungkook giggled. Hobi groaned, he knew Seuni had more than enough of those.

The night of the party came and they headed to Seuni's house. The first thing Seuni did was steal Hobi away from his members and go around introducing him to everyone. Telling everyone how they were the best of friends and had been this whole time. Hobi knew that was a lie, they hadn't talked in nearly ten years. BTS were his friends. Hobi realized what Seuni was trying to do now. He was trying to use him.

I should have known better. All he cares about is popularity. He didn't give a shit about me then, and he doesn't now.

As Seuni continued to drag Hobi away to greet people, the man kept talking over him and for him. Hobi himself didn't actually get to talk to anyone, it was just Seuni going on and on about how great of friends they were. Hobi pulled away.

"What are you doing? Just because we were friends in Highschool doesn't mean we are now," Hobi pouted. He was realizing more and more that he wanted to go be with his members, and even better, just go home.

"What do you mean? I thought we were brothers for life! Why else would you have come?" Seuni asked confused.

"I..I honestly don't know why I came. You really haven't changed at all," Hobi frowned. He bit his lower lip and tried not to cry. All the emotions he felt so many years ago were swirling in his heart again and it was making his chest ache.

"What do you mean I haven't changed?"

Hobi explained to him how Seuni never really cared about his friendship, he was just someone who liked to be the boss and force others into doing things they never truly wanted to do. How he always cared more about what the masses thought rather than his own close personal friends.

"Fame got to your head. Don't forget where you came from, Hoseok. If it weren't for me helping you come out of your shell back then, you probably wouldn't even be where you are today."

Hobi couldn't believe his ears. This man was really taking credit for him being in BTS? And he knew himself well enough to know that fame would never get to his head. If anything, his members always kept him well grounded. He thought of his members again and realized he needed to gather them and get the hell out of there.

"You know what? I don't have time for this. I think it's best I get going," Hobi said and walked away.

"Hey everyone!" Seuni suddenly yelled. All of the people settled down and went quiet. Someone paused the music. Hobi turned and froze. What the hell is he doing?!

"How about I share some good ol' stories about me and my best friend Hoseok from back in the day? Because man do I have many!"

"Seuni stop it! What are you doing?!" Hobi cried.

Seuni started going on and on about every embarrassing thing that had ever happened to Hobi in highschool and Hobi felt his cheeks burning and his blood pumping. Tears stung his eyes. His members came running up behind him.

"Hyung what's going on? What is he doing?" Jimin yelled. The tears finally started trickling down Hobi's cheeks.

"I said shut up!" Hobi screamed at Seuni with his hands balled into fists. He couldn't do anything though, people were now recording the stories on their cell phones.

"Oh what's that? Are you going to cry to your mommy?" Seuni started, "Just like when you went and cried to your mommy when that girl you liked told you how ugly you were and to not go near her? Oh man everyone! You should have seen all the tears he cried that day!"

"Hyungie we should go.." Jungkook grabbed Hobi's arm and started pulling him towards the door to leave. Everyone's laughter was becoming too much for him. He was hot with embarrassment. He tried getting out of Jungkook's grip and making his way back to Seuni to scream at him but the rest of his members told him it wasn't worth it and pushed him out the door and to the car.

"Let him say whatever he wants, he's just a lowlife, apparently," Namjoon said reassuringly. When they got in the car Hobi was a mess of tears. His heart ached. Taehyung and Jin wrapped him up in their arms. Hobi didn't know it but Namjoon snuck his phone from him and blocked Seuni's number. The leader knew there was no point for them to ever talk to eachother again.

"I don't get it," Yoongi started, "I thought he was your best friend back then. What the hell happened? Why is he doing this?"

Hobi finally admitted to them the truth about their friendship and slowly everything started to make sense. Namjoon told Hobi that clearly Seuni must be, and must have always been, jealous for some reason to feel the need to always embarrass him and bring him down. Hobi didn't really want to talk about it. He was too hurt. He was burning with embarrassment knowing all of the things Seuni had revealed and seeing how many people had recorded it. He knew those videos would end up on the internet. Jungkook told him not to worry about it too much, that ARMY would think they were cute or people would simply think the videos were edited.

"Why haven't you told us about all this before?" Jin asked. Hobi shrugged, "I guess I thought it was better to forget."

Namjoon asked if that was why Hobi was so shy and hesitant when he 'd entered the band and he said it was.

"Awww. But you're not like that anymore!" Jungkook smiled.

Hobi couldn't help but smile, "That's because I got lucky with you guys."

"Oh no way hyung, we got lucky with you!" Taehyung laughed. They could tell Hobi was still in a sorrowful mood so they drove over to an ice cream place.

"That party was lame anyway," Yoongi said while sharing his ice cream cone with the maknae line. They asked Hobi if there's anything he'd rather go out and do to help take his mind off things.

"The night is still young, we could go anywhere," Jin mentioned.

"How about we go home and watch a movie together or something?" Hobi asked. The members agreed they could do that too. He was still a bit down over the nights events and felt like just curling up on the couch was all he had the energy for.

Hobi realized it didn't matter where he was or what he did, as long as he was with his members he was already having a great time. A great time with more than just his best friends, but with his family.
