TWO- Test

"All I’m really asking for is you. Long as you know who you belong to." - Beyoncé

KAYDEN

I'm bored out of my mind listening to my professor's lecture. Thankfully, it's almost over. I have a lot on my mind today. I've been thinking really hard on the whole baby situation with Kevin. I'm debating on whether I want to stop taking my birth control and let it happen or not.

"Class is over. I'll see y'all later." professor Mullen says, dismissing everybody. I stand up then grab my purse and binder. "Girl, I love your hair." one of the women in my class says as she walks beside me. I look at her. I hardly ever see her in class. "Thank you." I say. "What kind of hair is that?" she asks. "It's three bundles of twenty eight inch Peruvian hair." I answer. "That's so pretty. I usually get Brazilian." she says. "Me too. I just wanted to try something different this time." I say. She nods her head. "Does it shed a lot?" she asks. "Naw not really. I like your hair too." I compliment her, looking at her two red goddess braids that stop at the bottom of her back. They're cute.

"Thanks. So you're a psychology  major too, huh?" she asks. "Yeah, I am. I barely see you in class though." I say. She starts laughing. "Girl, I be with my nigga getting dicked down." she says, catching me off guard.

I start laughing. "Your education way more important than some dick." I say. She starts laughing. "As long as I'm passing, I'm good." she says. "Is your boyfriend a student here at UCLA too?" I ask. "Yeah. He's on the basketball team. That shit annoying though. I have to beat bitches asses every once in a while." she says, making me laugh. "Hold on. Are you the girl who got arrested at that basketball game for stomping some white girl out?" I ask. She bursts into laughter while nodding her head yes. "I'm just glad I didn't get put out of the college all together, girl. But yeah, that was me. She was being mad disrespectful talking about she fucked my nigga and everything." she says. "Well, did she?" I ask, laughing. My nosey ass want all the tea.

"Yep, she did when we were taking a break. I bet she regret opening her dick sucking mouth now though." she says. I shake my head, laughing. "You gone have to calm down. These niggas are not worth you getting put out of the college girl. I'm sure you don't wanna waste all the money you paid for each semester." I say. "You right, girl. What about you? You do any sports here?" she asks. "Yeah. I'm actually here on a track scholarship." I answer. "Oh really? I live on campus. I've never seen you outside of class." she says. "That's probably because I'm never in my dorm. I have a house. I only have the dorm because it was a part of my scholarship but I don't even stay in it." I explain.

"That's wassup. Girl, you got your own house?" she asks as if she's shocked. I laugh a little. "Yeah." I answer. "What about your boyfriend if you got one? He live on campus?" she asks. I smile a little. "Well, no I don't have a boyfriend. I'm actually married. He graduated from college a long time ago." I say. Her mouth drops. "Oh my God, I can't believe you're married. How old are you?" she exclaims. "I'm twenty. I've been with him since I was sixteen and we got married when I turned eighteen." I say. "Damn, your pussy must be good as fuck." she says, making me laugh. She has no filter.

"No offense though. I just couldn't be married this young. I'm twenty just like you are. I can hardly spend the night with my nigga without wanting to slap the fuck out of him." she says. "Well, marriage isn't an easy thing but it's worth it when you both love each other and stay committed to each other." I say. She nods her head. "That's beautiful. I'm Ciara, by the way." she says. "I'm Kayden." I introduce myself.

"You seem cool. Can I get your number? You should hang out with me and my friends sometimes." she says. "Sure." I say, typing my number in her cell phone. She saves my number then puts her phone away. "So, what you about to do right now?" she asks. "Nothing. This was the only class I have today. You?" I ask. "I was about to go chill with my boyfriend and a few of his niggas. You wanna come?" She asks.

"It depends. Chill where?" I ask. "At my boyfriend's homie's apartment." she answers. "I don't know about that. No offense but I don't know you guys." I say. "I understand. You can follow me over there or ride with me if you want. Everybody's cool. Trust me, ain't no funny shit going down." she assures me. I nod my head. "I guess I'll follow you over there." I say. "Okay." she says, nodding her head.

I followed Ciara to an apartment complex in Compton. I park my car then get out. "It's nicer on the inside." she tells me. I nod my head then follow her up the stairs. I hear loud rap music blasting. She starts banging on the door then steps back. "Who the fuck banging like a gotdamn police, bruh?" a guy snaps as he snatches the door open.

"Kai, get the fuck out my face!" Ciara says, shoving him. He looks at me. "Who you done brought around here, Ciara?" he asks, looking at me. "Dude, chill. That's my girl Kayden. She cool people." Ciara says. "Hi." I say, waving at him a little. I'm starting to think coming over here was a bad idea. He won't even let me in the apartment. "Well, what the hell Kayden at my door for? She not my people so don't bring her to my crib." he says to Ciara.

"Um, Ciara, I'll see you later." I say. "No, Kayden, stay. Kai, chill dude. She real cool people." Ciara says. Kai looks over at me. "Come in." he says, finally stepping aside. I walk in the apartment then look around. It's actually really clean. The complex looks so dirty on the outside. "This is a really nice color scheme." I say to Kai. It's decorated gray, white, and black. "So, you fucking with it?" he asks, smirking a little. I nod my head yes. "Yeah, it's nice." I admit. "Thank you, babygirl." he says. "You're welcome." I say.

It smells like weed in here. "This is my boyfriend Harlem, that's Kai's brother Malik, you already met Kai, and that's Andrew. This is Kayden, everybody." she introduces me to the guys. All of them greet me. "Why I never seen you before?" Malik asks me. "I just met Ciara. Nice to meet you though." I say. He nods his head, moving a few of his dreads out of his face.

"You just gone stand there looking dumb or you gone sit down?" Kai asks, pointing at a spot on the couch. I sit down next to Ciara. She's sitting on her boyfriend Harlem's lap. "So where you from?" Andrew asks. He's sitting on the other side of me. "I'm from New York." I answer. "Word? Me too." Harlem says, looking over at me. "That's wassup. You from Harlem like your name?" I ask. "Yeah. I been here since I was six though. What part you from?" he asks. "The Bronx. I've been in California since I was nine though." I answer. He nods his head.

"Damn, Malik, what you staring at her like that for?" Ciara asks him. I did notice him staring at me but I was trying not to pay it any attention. "I can't look at ol girl?" he asks Ciara with an attitude. "You just staring at her. Like, damn, my nigga." Ciara says, making the rest of the guys laugh. "Why you still with this ugly ass broad, Harlem? I taught you better than to fuck with them bottom of the bottom, sewer rat type females like her." Malik says.

"Nigga, you bout ugly as fuck. Harlem, you need to quit hanging with this clown. He make you look bad." Ciara says. "Mane, chill out." Harlem demands. "My girlfriend calling me. Imma be back." Andrew says, standing up. He walks out of the living room. "Look at these niggas all in love. Harlem and Andrew, I ain't trying to be like y'all niggas. If love is in the air, a nigga wanna suffocate." Malik says. "Don't worry. Nobody want your ugly ass no way." Ciara says, making me laugh.

Kai looks across the room at me then shakes his head. Ciara and Malik are literally going in on each other right now and it's so funny. It's almost like Harlem is used to his girlfriend and homie fighting all the time because he's just sitting there like it's the norm.

"You see the type of shit I gotta deal with with these folks?" Kai asks me. I nod my head, laughing at them. "What you gone do, Malik? Do something then!" Ciara yells, standing up. "Get your ol beanie baby head ass back." Malik says. Kai chuckles. "Chill out. It's over with now." Kai tells them.

"You better get your brother before I fuck him up again." Ciara says. "Again?" I ask. "Yes. I beat his ass when we were in high school." she says. "Man, shut up. No you didn't. You just punched me a couple of times and you only got away with it because I don't hit women." Malik says. Ciara starts going off all over again.

Kai shakes his head then motions for me to follow him. I stand then awkwardly follow him to the back of the apartment. He opens a bedroom. I'm guessing this is his bedroom. It's nicely decorated as well. Everything is black and red with a little bit of white. I hesitantly sit down on his bed. He sits down next to me.

"Excuse my dumb ass brother and Ciara." he says. I nod my head, not looking at him. He's so intimidating to me for some reason. His whole demeanor is rough to me. "It's cool. They're funny." I say. He nods his head, holding a small black box. I watch as he pulls some weed out of it. "I hope you don't mind a nigga smoking a lil bit." he says, focused on rolling it up. "Naw. It's your apartment." I say, still not looking at him.

He examines the blunt then grabs a blue lighter out the box. I watch as he starts smoking in silence. "You smoke?" he asks me, blowing smoke out of his mouth. I shake my head no. "No... not no more. I haven't done it since I was a freshman in high school." I say. "How old you is?" he asks me. "Twenty. You?" I ask. "Twenty two. Here, hit this shit." he says, trying to give me the blunt.

I laugh a little, moving my hair behind my ear. "No... I can't. I'm not a smoker." I say. "One puff ain't gone kill ya, love. Here." he says, putting it to my lips. I inhale the smoke then blow it out of my mouth. That's some good ass weed he's smoking. I cough a little. He starts laughing. "That's that loud, huh?" he asks, patting my back as I cough. "This is why I don't smoke." I say, laughing a little.

He chuckles. "What you doing with Ciara bird brain ass?" he asks. "Why are yall so hard on her?" I ask. He continues to smoke. "She easy to piss off. Her and Malik used to mess off a lil bit. Now she with my nigga Harlem and Malik still got love for her." he answers. "Oh. How long have yall been friends?" I ask. "Shit, since elementary. Them my niggas." he answers.

"That's cool." I say. "How you meet Ciara?" he asks. "On campus. We're in a class together, she complimented my hair, and asked if I wanted to hang out. My husband is at work so I agreed." I answer. He raises his eyebrow then looks at my hand. "Husband? Damn, you married." he says, chuckling a little. "Yeah." I answer.

"Where yo nigga at?" he asks. "Working." I answer. "Where he work at?" he asks. "He's a lawyer." I answer. "Oh word? Got you a legal nigga." he says. "Duh." I say, laughing. "What about you? Where's your girlfriend?" I ask. "I'm single. I ain't trying to have no relationship shit in my life. That's bad for my health." he jokes, making me laugh.

"Relationships are only bad when you're with the wrong person." I say. "Naw, you don't understand. I can't be committed to nobody. I got a few I be fucking on. I'll leave it like that." he says. "Whatever. I know you get lonely. When you get home, don't you want somebody to hold and have when you want her?" I ask. "None of that shit excite me." he answers. "You just haven't found the right woman yet. When you find her, you'll feel the difference." I say. He smirks a little. "Is that so?" he asks. "Yes,it is." I answer, smiling back at him.

My phone starts ringing. It's Kevin. "My husband is calling me." I say to Kai. He nods his head, rolling up more weed. I answer the phone. "Hey, baby." I say. "Hey, love. Where are you?" he asks. "Just out with a friend." I answer. "What friend? You not with Karlie." he says. "No. I have another friend named Ciara." I answer.  I can't tell him there's guys here. He'll start thinking I'm being unfaithful.

"Oh okay. I'm gonna be working late on a case today so I'll be in the office a little longer." he says. "Again? Why do you suddenly have to be at the office so late?" I ask him. "Do you question me when you spend the money I make?" he asks. I roll my eyes. "No, Kevin. Whatever." I say. "I'll see you when I get off. Bye. Love you." he says. "Me too." I mumble, then hang up the phone.

"So, ol boy say he working late and shit?" Kai asks. "Yeah. He does that a lot." I answer. "What if he fucking another bitch?" he nonchalantly asks. I look at him crazy. "Hell naw. He'd never do that. Neither of us will ever cheat on each other. That's ridiculous." I say. He shrugs his shoulders then starts back smoking.

"It was nice talking to you. I'm about to go home." I say, standing up. He stands then follows me out of his room. "I'm about to head home, Ciara." I say to her. She hugs me. "I'll call you later when I get back home. We have things to discuss." she says, winking at me. I chuckle. "Sure." I say. I don't know what she's winking for. "Kai, walk my friend to her car." Ciara says, grinning at him.

Kai hands the blunt to Harlem. "Come on." he says to me. He leads me out of the apartment. "This bitch clean." he compliments my car. "Thank you. Well, I'll see you later." I say. He nods his head. "Let me get yo number. You need to come kick it with us more often." he says. "Sure. Just let me know when you guys are doing something." I say, putting my number in his phone. "Aight. Imma see you later." he says. I open my door. "Damn, you don't hug niggas before you leave?" he asks. I give him a side hug then get in my car. He walks back up the stairs as I pull off.

I just got to my house. It smells like cologne. "I thought you were at the office." I say to Kevin as I walk in our room. "What you doing home so early?" I ask him. "I'm always home at this time. Why are you getting all dressed up?" I ask. "I'm going back to work. I wanted to come home and freshen up. How you doing, beautiful?" he asks, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"I'm good." I answer, then kiss his lips. "Why do you smell like weed?" he asks. Before I can answer, our bathroom door opens. Karlie walks out of it. "Hey bestfriend." she says. "What the fuck are you randomly at my house with my husband for? Why are you in my bathroom when I'm not here?" I snap on her. I don't appreciate this at all. I don't be at her house alone with Dion and shit so she shouldn't do that to me out of respect for my gotdamn marriage.

"Girl, I came over here waiting on you and I had to pee. Dion is actually on his way over now." she says. I fold my arms across my chest. "Why are you up here in here alone with my husband? Kevin, what the fuck you got going on?" I snap on both of them. "Nothing. Are you implying that I'm sleeping with your bestfriend? Because if that's what you trying to say, you got me fucked up, Kayden. Why would you even think that about me? We're supposed to trust each other." he goes off on me.

"Karlie, go home because I'm mad as hell. This doesn't look good. I better not ever come home and find another female, bestfriend or not up here in my bathroom or at this house alone with you ever again. You better listen and listen good, Kevin." I go off. "You tripping. I wouldn't ever do that to you!" Karlie screams at me like her feelings are hurt.

"It just didn't look right, Karlie! You'd say the same thing if this was me and Dion!" I yell back at her. She starts crying. "I'm so hurt that you think I'd do that to you." she cries. I roll my eyes at her then hug her. "Quit crying. Just don't do this shit no more." I say. She hugs me back. "Bye, Kayden and Kevin. I'll tell Dion we'll visit yall another day." she says, then walks out of our room.

"Really, Kayden? You just caused a scene and accused me and your bestfriend. I'm so mad at you." Kevin says to me. I roll my eyes at him. "Go to fucking work. My bad then. You would've flipped if I was here alone and Dion walked out of your bathroom and shit." I say. "No I wouldn't have because I trust you and I trust him." he says. "Whatever. I'll see you later. Go to work." I say.

He hugs me then kisses me on my lips. "I will never ever cheat on you. That's something you don't need to worry about, okay? I love you." he softly says. "I love you too." I say. He walks out of our room.

I walk into our bathroom then turn the light on. I pull my pants down then sit down on the toilet. I look over at the garbage can then raise my eyebrow. "What in the hell?" I mumble, staring at ripped up box pieces. I can tell it's a pregnancy test box. I start moving the trash around then grab the pregnancy test that was hidden underneath the garbage. "What the fuck?" I mumble. It's a positive pregnancy test. I smile wide, letting everything sink in. Karlie and Dion are expecting a child. I need to congratulate her.
