Memories of the Past part 2
*12 years earlier*
*A/N POV*
"Mother. Father. May I please stop and take a break now?" Yeon Hwa asks her parents sweetly. Her father looks up from his newspaper while her mother puts her tea cup down. They were in the living room, when they should be in the study room. Her father just wanted to make sure his precious daughter was actually studying and doing work rather than playing around.
"Taking a break and having fun isn't gonna get you into that private school Yeon Hwa. Keep studying until dinner time." Her father said.
Yeon Hwa looked down back at her math book, powerless. She had been studying for hours, not even. Days. She's tired and bored, and practically memorized all of the problems in the book. Her parents weren't gonna let her stop. They never did. This was too much for Yeon Hwa. She was a child. Only 10 years old. How could she ever experience an actual childhood. Would she ever speak out to her parents?
Of course not. She wasn't allowed to.
Yeon Hwa prayed for dinner to come. So she could actually stop reading the same things over and over again.
Unfortunately, when dinner finally came...
"Alright Yeon Hwa. What's the answer to this problem." Her father asked, passing her a completely new math book, with new problems, just as she was eating her dinner.
Yeon Hwa didn't recognize these types of problems in the entire book.
"I'm not sure father. Is this a higher level?" She asked him.
Her father looked directly at her mother, very angry.
"OF COURSE IT IS." He yells at her. "MY DAUGHTER MUST KNOW MORE THAN ANYONE AT HER SCHOOL. SHE MUST BE AT THE TOP OF HER CLASS. I CANNOT RAISE A STUPID CHILD."
Yeon Hwa feels tears in her eyes. She blinks them away. Crying in front of her parents would only make the problem worse.
"IF WE DO... You're mother and I will be the laughing stalk of the whole neighborhood. You need to take in the situation from our side Yeon Hwa. You don't want to make a fool of your mother and I would you? Right? Right. Now go figure the problem out yourself." Her father orders.
Yeon Hwa hasn't finished her dinner yet, but decides to finish fast so she could do her work and please her father.
But her mother interferes. She takes the plate away from Yeon Hwa.
"We cannot raise a chubby or fat daughter either. I think that's enough dinner for you." The mother says. She puts the food in the trash and the plate in the sink for he maid to clean it.
Yeon Hwa hasn't finished even half of her dinner yet. But she walks upstairs, in silence.
She studies in her room trying to figure out what her new book is about, barely being able to see the problem with tearing covering her sight,
And until she is certain that her parents are asleep, and she can hear her father's snores.
She closes the book setting it on her nightstand. Crawls into bed, and cries to sleep with her empty stomach.
