♡ Chapter 21 ♡
Meanwhile,
At the kindergarten,
Afternoon...
Third Person's POV
"Alright everyone! It is time to play outside!"
The female teacher announced to the little kids in the kindergarten building, earning cheers of excitement from them. They immediately ran outside, leaving the teachers behind.
"Play nice and fair with others!"
"Ah, Iku-chan. Be careful! You can't go there!"
"You two there, don't throw pebbles at each other! It is dangerous!"
The teachers were having a hard time keeping all of the children in control. But they were used to this task. Dealing with children was part of their daily life. Not seeing them for one day felt like they lost half of their hearts.
Outside the kindergarten, a boy with sliky dark brown hair was staring at a group of the little ones. Small kids were littering around the area, playing and chasing each other happily.
A smile surfaced beneath his black cloth mask. His green and yellow irises locked on a group of children taking turns to throw ball at the other one. They seemed like they were having so much fun. All of them were giggling gleefully. Surprisingly, even their usually stoic brother was being more expressive with his feelings.
This sight made the boy's smile widened. It calmed his heart whenever he saw those pure children. Their innocent smiles always managed to brighten his bland, grey world a little.
His mind then drifted into the endless river of his memories. An intense pain suddenly pang his fast-beating heart. The small smile dropped into blank expression. His eyes became lifeless, losing their shine.
' I should leave this place before something terrible happen to me... Better continue looking for him...' The boy clenched his palm into a firm fist, teeth gritting firmly under the mask. He was about to turn around to leave the kindergarten when a ball started rolling toward his direction.
"Nii-nii! The ball is there!" Aiko pointed the ball that was staying still near the older boy's left foot. He was caught off guard by the yelling. Frantically looking for hiding spot, his mind swirled with thoughts searching for idea.
Unfortunately, Ken was already close to his location. He was walking toward the ball, still not noticing the older boy's existence. Just after he lifted his head up back, he spotted the boy.
Ken stared at the brunette. Sweat roller down the side of the teenage boy's head. Both of them locked eyes for quite a while. The young child was intrigued by the tall teenager's presence.
"...Daddy?"
Ken murmured unsurely, tilting his head. He let go of the ball and eyes began glimmering with glee. He surged forward to clutch the older boy's leg that he mistook for his father.
"Hey-"
The teenager didn't know how to handle this situation. He tried to shove away Ken's hand, but he was clutching to his leg with all his strength. "Daddy." The little brunette called out to the older boy again. He tugged his pants lightly.
"Let's play together."
Ken made an attempt to drag his 'father' to the kindergarten. Sighing depky, the teenage boy picked him up carefully. "Pipsqueak, I'm not your old man." He said clearly.
"Man, I can't believe you are this small..." The boy murmured to himself, observing Ken's small stature. "..say, what is your father's name?" He asked the little child. Ken stared at him, confused.
"Kai... Chisaki." Ken answered in complete confusion. Why his 'father' was asking him such a bizarre question?
"Good. You know your father's name. Sadly, I'm not you father with the name 'Kai'. My name is Kei, pipsqueak." The teenage boy introduced himself.
"Kei...?"
"Yeah. That is my name."
"...but you look like Daddy."
"Oh, really? Then I must be his doppelganger."
"Dowpel ginger?"
"Doppelganger. A demon resembling a certain human. Yes, kid. I'm not a good person. You just talk to a demon."
"DEMON, BEGONE!"
Aiko suddenly hollered at them before hurling a pebble at Kei. The pebble hit the side of his forehead. The masked-wearing boy whimpered from the impact. He turned to Ken's younger siblings. Ichiru was trembling behind his big sister as he clutched on her back.
Out of the blue, the timid boy ran toward Kei and shook his leg. "Let go of Nii-nii! Don't hurt him!!" He cried out, crystal tears rolling down his chubby face. Kei was amused to see the two younger siblings working so hard to get their big brother back.
"I'm not letting him go... I'm gonna take him with me!"
Kei exclaimed playfully as he showed a scary face. The two younger siblings fidgeted in fears, more tears streamed down their faces. Seeing them like this made him felt guilty.
"Sorry, sorry.... It is just a joke. Here, take your brother back."
Kei put Ken down gently. His younger siblings rushed to him and hugged him almost immediately. "Nii-nii!!!" They cried out in relief. Ken secretly smiled at the triplets.
' Those two...they have always been protective since little...' he thought to himself. In full silent, he walked away from the siblings....

In the city...
Kei's POV
I handed over some bills to the ice cream seller. He gave me the chocolate ice cream I bought from him. Strolling away from the ice cream stand, I found an empty bench to sit on.
The black mask I had been wearing was pulled down and rested under my chin. I stuck out my tongue and started licking the chocolate ice cream.
No matter where I go, I couldn't find that guy.
Damn it, where the hell is he? If I don't find him quick, soon enough... He will implement his plan.
If only we end up in the same place back then, it won't be this difficult to find him.
The thought made me frustrated. The ice cream in my hand instantly disappeared before my eyes. Just a thought of that man was enough to cause me to lose appetite. God damn it.
A sigh of exhaustion escaped my mouth. I pulled my hood further to hide my frustrated expression then put on my mask back. I didn't like staying in public place for too long. It made me sick... Being surrounded by lots of people.
Standing up from the bench, I decided to search for some sort of the hidden bar...where most villains hang out. They might know a thing or two about this guy I was looking...
You can't run away forever...
"Nii-san!"
A girl's voice I recognized suddenly uttered that word. It sounded so close, as if she was next to me. This literally had me shuddered in shock. Don't tell me...
Slowly, I looked behind me. My green and yellow eyes widened the moment I spotted them...
Third Person's POV
"You...two...? What are you doing here?"
"Kei" asked the other two teenagers standing before him fiercely. A girl with long dark brown hair styled into twintails, and a shorter boy with curly green hair. Both of them were looking at him in disbelief.
The greenette tch'ed at his brother before marching forward to him. A brutal punch was thrown on his face all of a sudden. The sister only looked away, not wanting to witness the violent scene.
"You bastard of a brother! Can you stop being reckless for one time?! How dare you ask such a dumb question! It is freaking obvious we are after you!"
The boy yelled furiously, his fist fuming out with small puff of warm steam. Kei seated up himself quietly. He didn't think of answering his little brother's question. The sister turned to the brothers back, feeling pity for her older brother. His cheek was crimson red. A small amount of blood dripped on the corner of his mouth.
"... This time, I won't get mad at him for punching you, Nii-san... You deserve that...a-after worrying us to death..."
Her voice became croaky when she remembered the moment their older brother decided to chase after the villain by himself....to seek revenge. It was too much for them to handle. With everything happened too fast. The loss of their family... It was all too much for their heart to bear.
She walked forward, heading toward her brother. Quickly, she knelt down and surged to hug "Kei".
"Even though you have been nothing but reckless lately... I'm glad you are fine... I thought we have lost you for real... Ken-niisan."
KEN resulted to silent when he heard that. He didn't return his little sister's hug.
"...Ai... Ichi..." The oldest brother was at loss of words.
Aiko untangled herself from her big brother. Tears were trickling down her face. Ichiru was still refusing to meet gazes with Ken. He was so mad at the brunette for leaving them behind. For being unnecessarily reckless.
