Chapter 49

(Edited)

"Do you guys know that we missed the entire morning of classes?" Emily asked while we climbed out of the car.

Ashton ran forward and jumped in the air excitedly. "Who cares?" He walked towards the back of the school so we wouldn't get into too much trouble. We chuckled at his stupidity and followed him.

Emily rolled her eyes. "Obviously, those of us who aren't failing all of our classes!" she remarked.

Ashton scoffed. "I'm not failing all of them! Only four." He stated proudly.

Mason walked up to Ashton and threw his arm over shoulder. "That's my bro!" He praised him.

"Whoop, whoop, lets celebrate the fact that Ashton's an idiot!" Emily waved her hands in the air mockingly. She was snappier than usual. I looked over to her and saw that Emily had sweatpants on with a white shirt tucked inside it. Not her usual, fashionable self; maybe she was on her period?

"You're mean!" Ashton pouted, shoving her boyfriend away from him.

She rolled her eyes. "And you're an idiot. I'm glad we're all caught up."

Ashton moved away from Mason entirely and dragged his feet with shoulders slumped.

"Ah Ash, I still love you!" Mason yelled at Ashton. Ashton answered with a middle finger.

"You're mean, babe!" Mason said, shoving Emily lightly.

Emily shrugged. "He'll survive." Mason chuckled and kissed her cheek. I looked at her and wiggled my eyebrows. She blushed, looking away.

I left Michael's side who was talking with Jason and went to talk to Ashton instead, who stood by the back entrance looking up into space. I ran up to him, ignoring the pain in my body and jumped on his back, startling him.

"Shit!" He screeched, still catching me.

I peeked over his shoulder and smiled. "Hi, bub!"

He was still trying to catch his breath. "A warning would have been great babe!" He exclaimed panting. He wrapped his hands on my legs so that I wouldnt fall off.

I pouted. "But you like surprises!" I stuck my tongue out, and he chuckled.

"You're such a child!" He rolled his eyes, walking into school.

"Says the child!" I scoffed, wrapping my arms around his neck.

We walked up to the lunch hall and prepared ourselves for a grand entrance. It was already lunch so all our classmates would be in there. Ashton was about to open the door when someone wrapped their arms around my waist, pulling me backwards, removing me from Ashton.

"Hey!" Ashton and I both protested. Ashton stumbled; my legs still wrapped around his waist.

"Enough of that!" Michael said territorially. I removed my legs and stood straight, looking at Michael.

Ashton jutted his button lip out and stared at Michael. "But Autumn and I wanted to walk in and be like we're back bitches." He explained, with an excited smile. Ashton leaned forward to grab me back.

"No!" Michael glared, holding tightly onto my waist.

"I'll do it with you, bro!" Mason said, jumping on Ashton's back. Ashton kicked the door open, and they both yelled we're back bitches. Everyone just looked at them like they were idiots and went back to what they were doing. All of us followed them in, but Michael pulled me back.

"No date of mine will be hanging all over other guys. Got that?" He asked, with a warning glared. He was jealous; it was hot!

I pulled myself free and kissed him on his cheek. I walked away, shaking my head with a chuckle, remembering the scene that happened only an hour ago. Before we got into the car to come back to school, Michael asked me out on a date Friday night, and of course, I said yes. It wasn't the most romantic way to ask someone out, but it was Michael.

I walked up to our friends and sat down with them. "Why are you smiling?" Jason asked curiously.

I shrugged. "No reason."

Michael was already acting like a jealous boyfriend, and we haven't even gone on a date yet. Well, at least I knew that he liked me. The fact that we were going on a date made me smile again. I was so giddy and uplifted; I loved feeling like this.

"What happened to no more secrets?" Jason asked, getting on my nerves.

There was distrust in his eyes, and it was obvious why, but this wasn't a secret. I didn't want to be the one to tell them. Michael could if he wanted to. He looked at Kate, and it looked like they were having a conversation with their eyes. I really hoped Michael and I would be like that one day.

"It's not a secret, it's just something that happened and makes me happy," I stated, casually. My phone buzzed interrupting the conversation.

"But what-" Mason started to say, but I cut him off by standing up.

"Sorry I got to go, but I'll catch up later," I told them walking away towards the classrooms.

I read the text message from Shawn telling me to meet in the meeting room. Which I assumed was the classroom we met in, the other time. I walked down the deserted hallway and stopped at the door but before I could knock my phone buzzed.

Michael: Where the hell are you?

Autumn: I'll explain later!

I shoved the phone back in my pocket after answering Michael's text. I didn't know what this was about, but I was curious.

I knocked on the door, but there was no answer, so I opened it and peeked through the gap.

"Hallo!"

"Told you it was her." I heard someone say from the other side of the room; it sounded like Shawn.

"How were we supposed to know it was her if she didn't use the password knock," Dustin stated with a huff.

I decided to interrupt their little debate. "Maybe if you taught me the knock, I would have done it!" I shrugged, closing the door, behind me.

Dustin shook his head with a grin, agreeing with me. "We'll work on it!"

Shawn rolled his eyes and crossed his legs. He sat on the teacher's table like he owned the place.

"What's up?" I asked them, taking a seat on one of the tables, not too far away from where Dustin sat and across from Shawn.

"The sky!" Dustin joked lamely, laughing at his own joke.

Shawn rolled his eyes. "Ok, a few rules to this club meeting." He air quoted club meeting. "You aren't allowed to talk." He told Dustin.

Dustin gasped and placed his hand on his heart. "But people will miss my beautiful voice!" He said, over exaggerating.

"No sweetheart, they won't," I said casually, poking at his ego.

He pouted and took out his phone typing something, after a while, my phone buzzed, so I pulled it out. It was a message from Dustin. He sent me a broken heart emoji. I chuckled and sent him a broken heart plus glue equals a fixed heart. He replied with a middle finger.

"Can you both stop being idiots!" Shawn grumbled, annoyed. We sighed and put our phones away.

"We have some great news for you!" Dustin jumped up with glee, causing Shawn to glare at him.

"Ok." I chuckled sceptically. "What is it?"

"We want you to meet Max this week!" Shawn said, smiling happily.

I froze with shock. I was sure I heard Shawn correctly, but I was struggling to processes. I've been waiting two years for this day, and now that it was finally here, I couldn't believe it.

"I think you broke her," Dustin told Shawn, poking me on my cheek.

"Autumn! Are you okay?" Shawn asked, placing his hand on my shoulder.

I was finally going to see Max after such a long time. My happiness was short-lived because I started hyperventilating. What if he didn't want to see me? What if he hated me? What if he didn't remember me?

I felt my shoulders shake, and the motion was bringing me back from the deep, dark abyss I went tumbling into.

"Hey, Autumn, can you hear me?" It sounded like Shawn's voice. I tried really hard to calm myself but struggled.

"Why is she freaking out?" Shawn exclaimed, freaking out himself.

"Maybe she's scared that Max doesn't want to see her?" Dustin wondered out loud, hitting the nail on the spot. I shook my head lightly.

"Ok Autumn, look at me!" Dustin commanded, being serious, something I've never seen him be. "You need to snap out of it. Max does want to see you. When we told him that we found you, he immediately wanted to meet up with you." He explained, rubbing my back soothingly.

"It's working!" Shawn said, and I realized that I was focusing more on my surroundings. "Come on, sweetheart, you can do it!" Shawn encouraged me.

I took a deep breath and waved my hand in Dustin's face, who was vanning me with his hands. "I'm fine now, thanks." They moved away from me but stayed close enough. I looked up at them, my eyes wide. They stood in front of me with big smiles on their faces.

"I'm going to see my son!"
