Chapter 12
(Edited)
Michael stood against the wall of Ashton's house, trying to calm his erratic beating heart.
What on earth was I thinking of going in for a kiss? Michael asked himself, running his hands through his hair with frustration.
If Jason hadn't shown up, Michael was definitely going to kiss Autumn. The fact that she seemed willing to kiss him urged him on, even though he promised himself that he would never kiss another girl or let her get close to him again; not after what she did to him. Autumn seemed to have crawled through his wired fence because Michael was willing to throw his promise away for her.
Michael gave Jason a head nod, thanking him and ran after Autumn, with the intentions unknown to him just yet. He knew for a fact that he had to talk to her. Why? That he still wanted to figure out, but there was something that attracted him towards her like a magnet.
"Shit!" Michael blew out, looking around him for any sign of Autumn.
A mere distance from him, he caught her blonde reflection running away from Jason and Masons uncle. The look on his face confused Michael; he didn't think that they would know each other. Michael shook his head to clear it from all the consuming thoughts that he couldn't process yet; not until he found Autumn.
Her blonde hair disappeared behind the corner, and Michael picked up his pace to catch up to her. After a few blocks of a failed attempt to catch her, Michael slowed down, aggravated with himself for the mess he caused.
He was just about to give up and turn back to Ashton's house when he heard her scream. It felt like his heart stopped and for those small, few seconds that he stood still wondering what had happened to her, the only thought that crossed his mind was that he was going to kill whoever had hurt her. When he snapped out of his stupor, he ran towards the direction of her scream. So many wishes were going through his head; he wanted her to be safe, that no one had harmed her, that he would get there in time.
Michael stopped dead in his tracks when he reached her. Autumn stood in the middle of an abandoned street with three Silverstone guys surrounding her. His heart sped up a few beats, and disgust filled him. Silverstone guys were absolute pigs who preyed on innocent girls by forcing themselves on them. He was sure as hell going to make all three of them pay for even letting the thought of hurting Autumn cross their minds. Before Michael could make a move to protect Autumn, she was already getting herself prepared to fight them.
Michael stood frozen in place; the look on Autumns face had shocked him completely. Confidence rolled off her and sent him staggering back a bit. She stood tall and unafraid, patiently waiting for them to come closer. Michael wanted to help her, to safe her, but on the other hand, the smirk she had on her face made him want to see what she thought she could accomplish.
They stood in a half-moon in front of her; each given a chance to attack. Michael couldn't dislodge himself from his spot, he wanted to tell her to run, but he couldn't find the will to form the words.
Please be careful, Michael begged silently.
The guy on Autumns right attacked first going in for the arms to keep her pinned while the other two had their way. The bulky guy ran up to her and tried to punch her, Autumn crouched down, missing the punch by a few inches. Her face contoured with pain, but she ignored it. She took her right foot, and while he was staggering, she kicked his feet right from under him. He smacked his head on to the tar, and from the looks of it, he was out cold.
"You psycho!" the guy in the middle yelled, looking at his unconscious friend.
Autumn shrugged and gave them an innocent smile. "He tripped."
The remaining two decided to attack Autumn at the same time. Michael wanted to jump in and help, but for the life of him, he couldn't get his feet to move. The one guy brought his foot up and kicked her. Autumn caught his foot and shoved him backwards, but he quickly regained his balance and lunged for her. Autumns reflexes were extraordinary, with every punch and kick he attempted, she dodged and retaliation.
She kicked him square in the jaw, and he followed his first friend landing unconscious right next to him. The last guy jumped in, and the look on his face said everything; he wanted some serious revenge. Autumn ushered him forward with her hand, sending him a teasing smile; rattling him up even more. There was no trace of fear on her face, not even a speck of doubt. She looked calm and collected like this was her playing ground.
Michaels couldn't decide if he was impressed or confused, so he settled for both. Autumn got a bit distracted with the lamplight that was shining up ahead and didn't see him coming; he punched her straight in the jaw. Autumn staggered backwards, and Michael sucked in a big breath. It felt like time froze around him, yet again. He couldn't understand why he wasn't moving, why he wasn't jumping in and saving her; more like helping because she got it covered.
"Bags!" Autumn cursed under her breath.
The last guy stood straight smiling smugly at her crunched over form. Autumn shook herself slightly and stood straight, smirking smugly.
"Oh, come on, honey, my mother punches harder than that!" she taunted him.
The redhead stormed up to her full speed, calculating his every move, she was ready for his arrival. She moved to the side just in time, tripping him. She jumped on top of him, punching him, full force. Michael sucked in another big breath; tonight, it seemed that he was very short on oxygen. He hoped that she stopped punching him soon because there was a lot of blood, and from his point of view, he was unconscious about five blows ago. Luckily for Michael, Autumn stopped and got off him. She stayed crouched down and looked at the three guys around her.
She blew out an exhausted breath. "I'm sorry!" She apologized into the nights air and walked away.
Michael had only once before been as shocked as he was now, but that was something that he didn't want to think about now. So many questions were running through his head while he was walking back to Ashton's house. Where did she learn to fight like that? Who taught her? What did she mean her mother punched harder than that? One thing was for sure, Michael had never before in his life been as curious about a girl like he was about Autumn, and tonights events only motivated the thought that had been running around in his mind for the past month.
He was going to uncover the inner workings of Autumn Young.
