If Silverstream Hadn't Died

Graystripe's eyes were blood shot as he looked at his mate lying on the ground, barely breathing. Her stomach would occasionally rise, and then fall. Cinderpaw kept giving her each herb she needed to strengthen up. Graystripe peered over Silverstream at their kits. Were they okay? His mind wandered. Tigerclaw and Fireheart ahd licked them figurously until they were breathing fine earlier. Oh yes. Tigerclaw. He turned around and met the savage, unapproving gaze of Tigerclaw. "What is going on here Graystripe?" He demanded, baring his teeth at him. "I- I.." Graystripe searched for the right words, but his mind went blank.

It had been several minutes, and Cinderpaw's herbs were helping a ton. Graystripe stood by Fireheart, Silverstream was getting stronger every minute. The kits were already nursing, and Silverstream looked over at her mate, her eyes filled with love. "They're beautiful." Graystripe walked over to his mate and peered over her stomach, looking at the nursing kits. "They are." Fireheart padded up behind him and looked at the tiny kits. "Aww. Hey but you cats are still crazy for doing this!" Graystripe let out a chuckle, and then considered what Fireheart had said with a shudder. Tigerclaw looked at him savagely. "What do you mean, Fireheart, for doing this? These are your kits aren't they," he said, his vicious gaze set on Graystripe. Fireheart's eyes widened, and he cursed himself under his breath.

Graystripe sat in a small circle with Cinderpaw and Fireheart, talking in hushed voices. "What clan will they go to.." Cinderpaw said, her head tilted to the side. "Also- will you and Silverstream move clans? Ya know- for the kits sake?" Graystripe considered what she was saying, and thought, "So- maybe I could go and live in Riverclan..? Or Silverstream could come to Thunderclan? Well-" his thoughts were broke as Silverstream let out a yelp. He ran as fast as he could to her side, along with Fireheart and Cinderpaw, but was surprised to see her eyes shining bright, and a purr rising in her throat. "Wha-?" Graystripe questioned. Silverstream met his gaze, and he padded closer to her, bending his head down to her's. "The she-kit opened her eyes. I think I have her a name too- Featherkit, and the other kit can be Stormkit. Do you like the names?" "No- i don't like them," Silverstream's jaw dropped and she was about to snap a reply when," I love them." Graystripe let out a chuckle, and Silverstream puffed a sigh of relief and rolled her eyes in a playful manner at her mate.

Cinderpaw picked up Stormkit and Silverstream gently picked up Featherkit. Fireheart and Graystripe stood on both sides of Silverstream, supporting her, and Tigerclaw just looked at the cats. "What are we waiting around for you stupid fox hearts?" He snapped, clearly impatient. "So.. where are we even taking you and the kits," questioned Fireheart, a hint of worry in his tone as he looked to his side at Silverstream. "Well.. I guess I can stay in Thunderclan for now and while i'm there make the.. decision," her voice wavered on the word, decision. "Okay, so bring you back to Thunderclan for now.. How's Crookedstar gonna feel about that?" Graystripe questioned, sheer concern lacing his voice. "I- I don't know.." Silverstream murmured, fear for her mate, herself, and her kits clear as day. "Bluestar or Crookedstar won't like it, and I don't blame them. You two shouldn't have done this in the first place. What were you thinking you mouse brains?!"

The five cats padded along, tension heavy in the air. What would Bluestar do when he walked into camp with a Riverclan she-cat who had just had his kits? Graystripe thought as he walked towards camp with the four other cats. Would he be called a traitor, and driven out of his clan to be a rogue? It was a possibility. What about his beloved mate and kits? What would happen to them?

It felt as if everything in the whole world had went quiet as the five cats approached the Thunderclan camp entrance. "Get ready," Tigerclaw said, his gaze fixed on Graystripe, Fireheart, and Silverstream. Graystripe heard as Silverstream let in a sharp breath, and one of the kittens let out a loud mew. They walked in the entrance, and the whole clan was alerted. They all just stared for a second, and then here flew the questions. "Is that a Riverclan cat?" Yowled Brackenfur, who had recently been made a warrior. "Is that her kits?" Questioned Sandstorm. "Why did you mouse brains bring her here?!" Growled Darkstripe from the shadows. "Silence!" Yowled Bluestar from atop her rock. The whole clan fell silent, and their gaze all fell on the five cats in the entrance.

"Why did you four bring this Riverclan she here?" Graystripe's mind went blank, but Fireheart backed him up. "She had her kittens.. and she was far from her home," he hesitated and was careful about what he said. Tigerclaw snarled, "Their Graystripe's kits. He and this Riverclan she have been meeting together," Tigerclaw smirked at Graystripe, who bristled in fear. "Graystripe, is this true?" Asked Bluestar, her voice with mixed a bit of concern and a bit of anger. Graystripe looked at Fireheart, and Fireheart winced. Fireheart mouthed, "You should tell the truth," to Graystripe, and Graystripe nodded. "Yes, Bluestar, it is true."

Bluestar bristled, and Tigerclaw smirked. "So these two kits are yours and-" she was cut off by her clan, who yowled defiance against their leader's request, to keep quiet. "Traitor!" Traitor!" "Traitor!" Bluestar flamed in anger. "Silence! What is your name?" She looked straight at Silverstream, who met her gaze. "I am Silverstream of Riverclan, and these are my kits, Featherkit and Stormkit," she announced bravely, meeting Bluestar's gaze. "Well. Go to the nursery with your kits and then come to my den with Graystripe after the kits are fed." Silverstream nodded her head, and she carried Featherkit as Graystripe carried Stormkit on their way to the cozy nursery.

"Who is this Graystripe?" Asked Brindleface, curious. "Oh- this is Silverstream. She'll be staying with us for a while. These two are her kits, Featherkit and Stormkit." He touched noses with his mate and walked out of the nursery, letting the queens gossip and the kits feed. Bluestar wanted to talk to him and Silverstream after the kits fed. He was nervous.

Graystripe sat at the fresh-kill, aware of the hostile glances that bored into his back. He quickly picked two plump mice, and headed to the nursery. Silverstream looked up as he entered. He dropped the two mice in front of her. "You need to eat before we go to Bluestar's den. I'm going to eat something, and then i'll come back for you, okay?" Silverstream nodded, "Okay."

Graystripe sat beside Fireheart, both of them sharing a large rabbit. "I'm so nervous," Graystripe murmured, looking at his best friend. "Well. I think if Silverstream wants to stay Bluestar will let her. I just don't know what Crookedstar will do." Graystripe nodded," Yeah.. i'm such a mouse brain for getting myself into all this.. but you know I still love her." Fireheart nodded, laughing a bit, he changed the subject, "I think Cinderpaw did great today." Fireheart's eyes gleamed, proud of his past apprentice. "Yes. She didn't even have any help. She saved Silverstream's and my kits lives. I'll always honor that." Fireheart stood up stretching," Well we've finished this rabbit. Go get Silverstream and you two go to Bluestar's den. Good luck."

Graystripe padded alongside Silverstream on their way to Bluestar's den. "I'm.. i'm nervous Graystripe.. and I need to tell you something.. I want to stay here with you." Graystripe's eyes widened, and then he purred in delight. "Your always welcome with me and Fireheart. How will your father feel about that though?" Silverstream sighed, "I- I don't really know." Graystripe looked at the rocks they had to climb, and got behind Silverstream helping her walk. They arrived at the entrance to Bluestar's den, and heard," Come on in."

"Hello Graystripe, Silverstream." The two dipped their heads to Bluestar. "Hello," they said in unison. "So, Silverstream, what clan do you plan on staying in, now that your kits are born?" Silverstream was silent for a second, but then with bravery she said, "Thunderclan. I love my mate very much and would like to always stay with him." Bluestar nodded. "Well, if you plan on staying in Thunderclan, you'll have to talk to your leader first." Graystripe winced, what if Crookedstar said no? "Okay. When shall I leave?" Bluestar looked amused. "Tomorrow at dawn, you will go with me, Graystripe, and Fireheart to discuss this with your leader. Also, do any cats in Riverclan know about you and Graystripe?" Silverstream nodded for the first answer and then replied, "Only Mistyfoot." Bluestar nodded. "Well, you two are dismissed, go tell Fireheart, and then get off to rest."

Graystripe stood in the nursery above his mate, who fed their hungry kits. "That wasn't all that bad," said Graystripe. "It really wasn't- but hey! Go tell Fireheart, and you need to rest!" Silverstream teased, and Graystripe purred. "What is it with all these young cats? Taking a mate from a different clan," muttered Speckletail half to herself. Silverstream rolled her eyes, and Graystripe trotted out, heading for Fireheart. He snuck up behind him, and pounced on him, bowling him over. "Hey!" Yowled the confused Fireheart, until Graystripe flipped him onto his back. Mischievousness glinted in Graystripe's eyes, and Fireheart laughed. Graystripe let him up, and then got to the point. "Me, you, Bluestar, and Silverstream are going on a patrol at dawn to Riverclan to discuss Silverstream coming to Thunderclan with Crookedstar." Fireheart nodded, and there was hope in his eyes, hope that his best friend's mate could stay.

It was early the next morning, and Graystripe woke up. He yawned and stretched, and Fireheart got up also. "Let's go get a mouse each." Muttered Fireheart. They trotted to the fresh-kill pile, and grabbed four plump mice by their tails. Graystripe walked to the nursery while Fireheart walked to Bluestar's den. Silverstream was awake, but the kits were fast asleep. "Here." He gave one of the plump mice to Silverstream, purring.

After all four cats had eaten, and the kits had nursed Silverstream left the kits with one of her quickly made friend in the nursery, and the four cats set off. They kept a steady pace, careful where they put their paws in the early morning light.

They arrived at the Riverclan camp, and walked into the entrance. Bluestar looked at the cats in the clearing and then said, "We need to speak with your leader, please and thank you." A cat then ran to Crookedstar's den, and then quickly returned, Crookedstar at their back. "Silverstream! Have you had your kits?" He ran up to his daughter, touching noses. "Yes, I have, and I wanted to tell you something." Crookedstar nodded. "My mate, the father of my kits, is a Thunderclan cat. His name is Graystripe." Graystripe padded up beside her, and dipped his head to Crookedstar. His eyes widened. "What?" Silverstream winced. "Yes, and i'd like to live in Thunderclan with my mate." Crookedstar shook his head sadly. "Is that really what you want? To one day maybe have to fight against your blood born clan?" Silverstream sighed, and nodded. "Yes. That is what I want." Crookedstar looked her in the face. "Well, if you wish, you may."Mistyfoot ran up to Silverstream, touching noses with her. "Goodbye Silverstream, good luck." Silverstream pressed her head against Mistyfoot. "Bye, i'll always miss you." Mistyfoot nodded, and walked away sadly.

They had arrived back at camp, and Silverstream headed to the nursery. She lay down, and letted her kits suckle, Graystripe by her side. "I'll be back in a few minutes, okay Silverstream?" Silverstream nodded, "Okay."

As he walked away, Silverstream was deep in thought, Now, I am Silverstream, Silverstream of Thunderclan.
