Week 1 - March Poetry Camp - 2023
Week 1 - Prompt One: World Music Therapy Day! (Celebrated March 1st)
This doesn't need to be solely about music therapy but music in general or even an instrument. Your poetry style is a Cinquain. This style is basic but to the point, and it's used to explain the main ideas in just a few words.
This is a five-line poem, non-rhyming, and the lines follow a specific pattern that goes like this:
Line 1: Subject (one word)
Line 2: Two words to describe the subject
Line 3: Three action verbs, each ending in -ing
Line 4: Four words to describe the subject
Line 5: A synonym for the subject (one word)
Piano
Keys, ivory
Tuning, tinkling, harmonizing
Eighty-eight keys for fingers
Instrument
Prompt Two: World Book Day! (Celebrated March 3rd)
Your task should be done in a Shakespearean Sonnet. These are mostly used to express love. The sonnet's broken down into four parts, three are Quatrain (four-lined stanzas) and the last stanza is a Rhyming Couplet.
First stanza: ABAB
Second stanza: CDCD
Third Stanza: EFEF
Fourth Stanza: GG
Her
Does music trill as enchantingly as that voice
Hath beauty ever filled thine eyes such as hers
Could dawn compare to that smile, given choice
Was there ever another who displayed such pleasures
Within her aura my heart was warmed
My being filled with exquisite emotion
And quickly a resulting passion formed
Encapturing forever my lasting devotion
A buoyant disposition filled the years
Through rapturous nights and fantasy days
A calming strength bereft of fears
Her presence changed my life in so many ways
These futile attempts were designed to exhort
But fancy words contrived to define, fall short
