My Top 7 Favourite Wrestling Shows That I've Seen In 2024:
Quick Side-Note before I begin: The picture I have here is from the one wrestling show that I got to go and see in person in 2024 with my brother. Or, at the very least, the one wrestling show I got to see in person for now, as my brother and sister are both hoping to get me to see another show in December for a promotion that my brother has gone to see fairly often with his mates (it all depends if I can get that day off). Also, this is mostly speaking about shows I've gone to see, or pay-per-views, not weekly shows like Raw, Smackdown, NXT, etc...
But yes, the number might seem strange or surprise you, but honestly between my own personal life, and the fact that I often had work on the day pay-per-views (as I still call them, because it feels weird calling them P.L.E.'s), or I was working the next day, and because I live in the UK, the shows take place more-often-than-not around midnight or late in the evening, so I haven't been able to watch the shows, or go back and watch a lot of them either.
Plus it should also be noted, for anyone who is an AEW fan, I don't have any way to watch AEW stuff outside of YouTube, or whenever I'm seeing my Nan (which isn't often because she lives about 4-5 hours away from me). However, I have been able to see at least some shows this year. And these are the shows I have been able to watch/see this year.
Also, there will be a picture of something that I remember from these shows...Probably the only things I remember for some, but hey, it counts in this case.
#7: WWE Royal Rumble 2024:
Okay, so not the picture of Bayley winning the Royal Rumble like I was hoping to find, but the picture suffices for the purpose of this. I'll be honest, Bayley winning the Women's Royal Rumble Match was probably the highlight of the event for me personally, with Cody winning the Men's Rumble Match being a close second.
Truth be told, besides the 2 Rumble matches, there really isn't anything else I can say about the show that was too memorable for me personally, or that I remember off the top of my head, outside of the Fatal 4-Way Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, which was fine, but I was long since done with Roman's title reign at that point (and, to be fair, I had been done with it since the aftermath of Wrestlemania 39 and Summerslam 2024).
Besides that, though, I often always have a good time watching a Royal Rumble pay-per-view, even if it's just because of said Rumble matches more-often-than-not, which is why it's on this list, but it's also why it's at #7 of my list too.
#6: WWE Backlash France 2024:
Whilst the picture I've used is probably something that some people remember for the show (and it was one of the first things I recall about the show, even if the match isn't perfect - it's not bad by any means), compared to the Royal Rumble, I do remember most of the matches on the card, and I remember for the most part really enjoying the show, including the Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles Undisputed WWE Championship main event.
Although, fun fact, I almost didn't see this show when it did go Live, because I had no idea it was taking place that day until my sister came into the living room while me and my Mum were - I believe - catching up with some clips on YouTube, and my sister asked if I was watching Backlash.
Plus, it also made up for me missing Elimination Chamber earlier in the year...Because I was asleep still when the show started, and my Dad was watching some shows on the telly, and I didn't want to stop him or interrupt his enjoyment since he's not a big wrestling fan compared to most of my family.
Anyway, loved this show, and I'm glad my sister told us about the show starting. Although I will say, the one gripe I did have was the singing during the main event. I don't know why, it just annoyed me.
#5: TNA No Surrender 2024:
The first TNA pay-per-view since Unbreakable 2005 that had the X-Division Championship main event the show, and the show that saw Mustafa Ali win the TNA X-Division Championship in his TNA pay-per-view debut, this show was a lot of fun honestly, with the X-Division Championship main event and the No Surrender Match TNA World Heavyweight Championship semi-main event being especially really good in particular for the show.
I got the chance to watch this show and Hard To Kill on my Nan's tv earlier in the year, and given they were the first TNA/Impact pay-per-views I'd seen since...probably 2019 now that I think about it, maybe 2018...they were both fun, even if they weren't perfect shows from top-to-bottom.
It's a shame with what happened not long after or before No Surrender, if I'm remembering right, with the whole TNA firing Scott D'Amore controversy (if you know if that was before or after No Surrender, then feel free to tell me, I'd genuinely like to know), but even with that aside, I don't think it hurts this show or the promotion too much, and whilst the next entry is probably the better of the early 2024 TNA pay-per-views, I still would say not to sleep on this show if you haven't seen it.
#4: TNA Hard To Kill 2024:
The first pay-per-view that TNA did in 2024, and the first TNA show with the promotion returning to the name of TNA: This show - whilst not perfect, like the previously mentioned No Surrender show that came after it - for me at the very least, started off a new era for TNA with a pretty strong start, capped off with the surprise debut of Nick Nemeth, weeks after the former Dolph Ziggler had made his first appearance in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
TNA may have had an up-and-down year in 2024, but they at least started off - more-or-less - on the right foot in 2024, and I enjoyed the show a lot. Not much more I can say about Hard To Kill besides that, really.
#3: AEW All In 2024:
Okay, so confession time here: This is the only AEW pay-per-view I've seen for the whole year, and I ended up watching the show in October 1 or 2 evenings before my #1 entry...which is something that I know some people might not be happy about, but - as I said earlier - I usually am only to see AEW related stuff on YouTube, so please don't be mad.
However, even despite that, I can't deny that the show is a pretty strong show all things considered, and getting to finally see the matches that led to Mariah May winning her first title in AEW, UK's own Will Ospreay and Pac winning titles at the show, and seeing Bryan Danielson win the AEW World Championship was all pretty damn good all things considered.
Also, yes, Mariah May winning the Women's World Championship is the first thing I think of first when it comes to All In 2024. Mostly because that was the first result of the show I saw when scrolling through social media one night at the time. Who is the first person you think of when it comes to All In 2024, out of curiosity?
#2: WWE Wrestlemania 40 (Though more specifically Night 2):
In terms of the multi-night Wrestlemania's, I usually tend to enjoy 1 night more than the other, and that's usually because the 1 I do like has the more superior matches and quality than the other, even if the other night has at least 1 or 2 good to excellent matches on the night itself.
This years Wrestlemania was no exception honestly, with Night 1 of Wrestlemania 40 being the inverse of previous years compared to the last 3 years of multi-night crowd filled Wrestlemania's, and also being - to me at least - the least interesting of the 2 nights of Wrestlemania weekend compared to Night 2.
Admittedly, I did like the Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley Women's World title opener and the Ladder Match for "Judgment Days'" Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships, and both the Sami Zayn vs. Walter IC title match (yes, I called Gunther Walter, I still find it weird calling him Gunther so I just call him Walter still personally) and the main event were good to fine, but outside of the results of the matches, the matches themselves aren't as memorable to me.
Night 2 though? I really enjoyed that night!
From the Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre World Heavyweight Championship opener and subsequent Damian Priest cash-in on McIntyre, to the Bayley vs. Iyo Sky Women's Championship match (even if the "Hey Bayley!" chants get very annoying very quickly with how often it was repeated, and did somewhat dampen my enjoyment of the match slightly. Once or twice is fine, more than that is too much), and the chaos of the Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes 2 main event may have been slightly over-booked, but it was the right kind and amount of chaos with a few surprise appearances that I never would have thought would happen that won me over in the match (I still think Cody should have won last year, and they didn't do enough to justify the extra year beyond the Jey Uso stuff, but hey, it is what it is), and hell I even found the random 6-Man Hardcore Match (I hope that was the stipulation said on the night...) between Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits against "The Final Testament" rather fun as well.
Really, the only things I didn't like was Logan Paul keeping the US title a little longer, but then again I know I wasn't alone in that or my disdain for him, and at least L.A. Knight was the one to get the belt off of Logan Paul. Everything else wasn't terrible, and I honest to god missed all but the entrances to the Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso match due to "nature calling", which made me laugh when I came back and saw the match being over, and to be honest there was enough good to great stuff that makes Wrestlemania my 2nd favourite show that I'd seen this year...As for my 1st.....?
#1: TNT Extreme Wrestling's WrestleBox - Box Park, Liverpool - October 13th 2024:
First off, yes, that ugly mug is me on the left of both pictures. Let us never speak of that again. But yes, my favourite show that I'd seen this year was the one show I've been able to see in person this year: Liverpool's local UK indie show (at least I think it's an indie show), TNT Extreme Wrestling, which took place at - I believe - a theatre called Box Park not too far from where the Peaky Blinders inspired pub is in Liverpool.
Now, why is this my top pick? Well, honestly, it was more because of the atmosphere I was in, the company I had, the overall show itself, and also - not as importantly, but still a little importantly to me personally - it was the first wrestling show I got to see in person in over 6 years, and I got to see it with my brother, who found out about the show taking place the day prior and convinced me to go and see it despite my nerves.
I had come up to Liverpool 2 days prior to seeing this show with my Dad and my brother to see family, and my brother came across something about this show. Admittedly it took me some time to fully get into being at a wrestling show again - especially for a promotion I'd never heard of before then, and also given that my social anxieties made me feel, at first, rather uncomfortable being in a place with so many people...but you know what? By the time the first match got underway, and as the show progressed...I really got into it and found myself at ease and comfortable at the event, and getting involved as fans can be with everything.
Hell, had I not gotten as comfortable and into the event as I did, I probably wouldn't have gotten the courage to go and buy some merch or get pictures with some of the wrestlers. Yeah I didn't say much to them beyond complimenting them and their matches, but it was nice to get a little out of my comfort zone.
And all the matches were great as well, which made the show even better for me. None of the matches were bad, they were all good to great to amazing, and the wrestling quiz in-between the 2nd and 3rd match was fun and a nice bit of fun to kill time in-between matches.
Also, fun side-tracking here, I also found out that wrestlers like Pete Dunne, Walter, and Toni Storm, among many others, have wrestled for the promotion, as well as some wrestlers who work for promotions like Progress and New Japan have been in the promotion. Walter was even the promotions World Champion in 2018 apparently.
Loved the show, loved the experience, loved the atmosphere I was in and the company I was with, and loved the chance to come out of my comfort zone with this show. And that's why it's taken the top spot for this list.
