His nurse?!
The nurse walked in and looked at Alandria from top to bottom, making her feel like she was a sordid piece of shit. She looked at the student for a few seconds then asked:
"Don't you know that school time is over. You should not be here."
*Well...I've met nurses who are more polite than you....* Alandria thought as she crossed her arms.
"Uhh...I am..." Alandria began, "sorry...but....my friend here was sick...."
"What friend?" the nurse asked sharply.
Very slowly, Alandria pointed towards the bed.
Nurse Nia looked at the bed and her facial expression completely changed when she saw Zayden.
"Ohhh my...." she gasped as she flew towards the young boy, "What happened to you?"
"He was..." Alandria began, but the nurse interrupted her.
"Please do not speak when I am speaking to my patient."
Alandria was taken aback. That was rude.
Zayden looked at Alandria with tired eyes then his gaze went back to nurse Nia.
"Let her..." Zayden began with much difficulty, "...tell you what happened..."
"Oh my...he has difficulty taking oxygen" Nurse Nia whispered as she ran towards the oxygen mask and helped Zayden with it.
"Now tell me what happened" she said in a serious tone.
"Yes nurse Nia..." Alandria said as she started thinking of how to begin the story of Zayden attacking her.
"I am not nurse Nia" the nurse suddenly said, "She is my twin sister. I am Lena...and please don't make that face. I am also a registered nurse. I am replacing her as she has gone to Romania for a few days."
"Ok...nurse Lena..." Alandria said with a nod.
That was a lot of information to process. The nurse was not the nurse, Zayden was a psycho...her life was apparently a lot to process. But she somehow managed to process it all.
"So Zayden...." her voice trailed off, "He....we...."
No matter how much she wanted to tell the truth, she did not find the courage to tell Nurse Nia..well nurse Lena...what really happened. Plus, Zayden himself said he did not remember how they got to the changing room. Maybe he was doing all of that because he was sick...mentally sick. Who could have thought that THE Zayden Connors had mental issues.
Both individual had their eyes on her, waiting for her to continue her story. She took a deep breath and decided to lie.
"Zayden and I were in the changing room and...he collapsed and then I brought him here. It was like he was having an attack. He could neither walk nor breathe properly."
*Wow! That was...some truth...no actually that was the truth! The whole truth!* she thought to herself, amazed.
"What were you two doing in the changing room?"
Alandria's eyes grew wide and she felt her cheeks on fire.
*YOU IDIOT! HOW STUPID CAN YOU EVEN BE? AT LEAST THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!* her brain reprimanded her.
Why did she say something like that? She could have said that she found Zayden by accident in the changing room or that while strolling next to the room she heard someone yell inside then when she went in she found Zayden on the floor.
Meanwhile Zayden had his eyes closed, but Alandria saw that he was trying to hide his laugh.
"It's...we were...talking..." was the only excuse that came out of her mouth and she swore she could hear Zayden's muffled laugh.
"Anyway!" Alandria said quickly, looking at the floor, "I...um...seriously doubt that we need to talk about that. Zayden's condition is important now."
"Yes...." the nurse said as she directed her attention to Zayden again.
Her face lit up instantly and she decided to ignore Alandria for the next 15 minutes. She did a check-up on the young man, asked him a few questions about his diet and finally asked him whether he was taking medicines to which Zayden replied that he was. Zayden then removed the medicines from his pocket and the nurse scrutinized them before saying:
"I will have to ask an expert."
*Huh...and here I thought she was a brilliant nurse like nurse Nia" Alandria thought as she rolled her eyes.
"In the mean time!" she said out loud, looking at Alandria, "This young lady here will have to take care of you. You will have to be his nurse."
"What, me?" Alandria asked.
"Yes, you."
"Why?"
"Because" Nurse Nia began, "You are his friend right?"
"Why don't you ask Bugs Bunny?" Alandria said before she could stop herself.
"Who?" Nurse Lena looked confused.
"Ohh sorry...I mean...Zayden's friend..." Alandria quickly corrected herself.
"I don't have the time to go and find his friends" the nurse said in an impatient tone, "You will take care of him. Take this chart and this booklet! Fill them tomorrow when you meet Zayden!"
She was handing a chart and a booklet to her and Alandria felt forced to take it.
"And you Zayden..." Nurse Lena continued, but this time in a honeyed voice, "Take good care of yourself. Don't exercise too much. If have any trouble, call me..."
She finished with a grin.
*Uhhh....please stop making it so obvious. It's embarrassing even for me to watch.* Alandria thought as she took the chart and the booklet.
Zayden nodded and got up. Both students then made their way to class to collect their bags before leaving the school compound, each going in a separate direction. No one said a word to each other
What a day!
