Chapter 2

Ashley's POV:

I decided to spend a week at Hillstown. I always thought that I deserve a break after a series of work and I really felt exhausted. Trixie was very happy to hear my good news and was more excited when she knew that I'll spend the whole week with them.

Until now,  she's still amazed how I treated her like my own sister.  I owe my life to them especially Trixie coz if weren't because of her I don't exist as of this time. Trixie and Nana has a very kind heart. They love me unconditionally. Sine we met three years ago, I used to call her Nana and treated her like my own mother. Good heaven knows how I love them both.

"We need a lot of time together coz I started to forget your face,  coconut. So better remind me always." I said jokingly to her while sitting opposite to me in the dining table while having breakfast.

I call her coconut coz my favorite in their place is coconut juice and she call me cheesenut coz that's what she like.

"No worries at all coz when I become famous, you'll get tired looking at my face printed on big billboards. You better watch out, Miss Famous." she fights back with a grin. She always have a pretty face and the sweetest smile I've eve seen.

"You better make it fast or else you'll always be disturbed by my presence here." I retort.

"Well, if that's the case then forget about my plan of becoming famous. I love your presence and I'm contented with my work here. You can disturb us anytime, right Mom?" said Trixie as she asked for her Nana's approval to what she just said. I felt her sincerity and they always move me with their love for me.

"Of course, you're always welcome here sweetie. We missed you so much." I shifted  my look to Nana and give her my sweetest smile. How I love this woman. My second mother away from home. My six-hour drive was worth it seeing them with their sweetest smile.

"So do I, Nana. I missed your cooking and I missed my coconut. So you better watch out coz we're going to the Centro after breakfast and we'll buy food supply for the whole week." I uttered eyeing Trixie coz I know she'll refuse. She don't want me spending money during my visit.

"Hey,  you know that you don't need to do that coz we have more than enough here. Besides you're a visitor here and no need for you to spend for food unless you want something that is not on the fridge."

"No. I don't need anything more. I just want to have some more food coz I know that I'll be eating a lot especially Nana is cooking for us. So don't argue with me and remember that I am not a visitor."

"Oh sorry I forgot, you are family. . . Now, you eat fast so we can go to the Centro, ora mismo!"

"Yeah right." as I continue eating my food. I missed this cooking badly. It's not as if mom don't cook for us but she don't do it often. Like Dad, she's into her own world - The Little Hearts Orphanage that she opened two years ago in Salt Lake. It started when a baby was left at our gate wrapped in a blue blanket with his name written on it.

After we had breakfast,  we change our clothes to go to the Centro. I put on a white sleeveless blouse and black capri pants paired with my white sandals while Trixie was on her blue shirt and black denim shorts with her white flipflops on.

I grab my purse and went to Trixie's room to check on her. "Ready coconut?" I asked Trixie who has just finished fiixn her long black hair. I always admire her hair because unlike Trixie,  I was born with brown hair in big curls which I think suits my face and skin though I don't give much attention to how do I look.

"Very ready! Let's go!" she answered as she headed to me at the door of her room.

We saw Nana in the living room changing the curtains.

"Mom, we'll just go to the Centro for a while. Do you want anything? We'll buy it for you."

"Nothing sweetie. Just enjoy the market with Ashley. I'm sure she missed that. You take care of yourselves there and be back before lunchtime. I will cook something both of you will surely love." said Nana with a sweet smile as she hugged us before we left for the market.

Instead of bringing my car to the Centro, we decided to walk since it's just a walking distance from Nana's. I also missed the fresh air here in Hillstown where I spend a lot of time since I met Trixie. I don't care taking a long drive though I often take a plane especially at times when I don't stay long.

Mom was reluctant at first with my constant travel that it came to the point where she accompanied me in Hillstown to meet Nana and Trixie.

Nana was happy to finally met my mother and said that I got most of my physical features from her though not her height.

They had a great time together during that visit and it made mom confident to let me visit them anytime I want as long as it won't affect my work.

Alicia, my mom, is a great mother. A very sweet, caring and loving mother to me and to my two sisters. Though a bit possessive we're all girls with Carlson as our only boy but she still bestowed us with her trust.

"How's Aunt Alicia, Ash?" Trixie asked me while we were walking holding hands along the road that leads to the main market.

"She's fine, Trixie. She really enjoyed her new aquarium and her new cross stitches. Nice past time, actually. It doesn't bore her." I said.

"She is actually staying lately at home after she had a mild heart attack and Dad wanted her to take a rest and relax.  Well,  it's miracle that she listened to Dad which seldom happens." I smiled as I continued.

"And how about your Dad?" which she knows the answer coz she knows that my father is always busy with our business. We are into manufacturing of steel and my father made it grow bigger as years passed.

"He's on a trip right now and will be back in a week. I missed him but I'm getting used to it. Anyway, how's Kurt?" referring to her suitor.

I don't deny the fact that I am getting strict and nosy when it comes to her suitors. After what happened to me, there's no way I'll let Trixie feel that pain.

Trixie is good looking and smart that's why I can't blame guys to get interested and pursue her. She's twenty-three now and matured enough to handle a relationship.

"Well, he's still buzzing around cheesenut and I'm almost tempted to give him a chance but I know it's not the right time yet and you know what I mean."

Yes I know what she mean. Trixie made a promise to her father in his death bed that she will redeem their land that was pawned to a rich landlord in Hillstown. The money was for the medication of her father who had lung cancer. Her father refused to pawn the land because it was the only treasure he had for his wife and daughter.

It was a hard struggle for Trixie and Nana to convince him which left him helpless. It was agonizing for him than his illness thinking that he will loss his treasured land. Her father tilted the land for many years and it became their source of living.

They had good harvest due to her father's hard work. They grow different fruits and vegetables. Nana was not allowed to work at that time. She just stay at home taking care of the needs of her husband and daughter. A simple yet happy family indeed, that's why it was hard for Nana and Trixie when her father got sick and died later on.

She's working now as an accountant in Roadridge Bank which is in the next town. It is an hour drive from Hillstown. She takes the bus daily as early as six o'clock in the morning. Being with the company for two years now made her do great on her job. Trixie is amazingly smart and such a great daughter.

"I understand that and I do hope you can fulfill that promise soon because I want to bring you to my place. There are better opportunities there, Trix." I said as we continue walking but she didn't comment on it.

She's always like that, silent when it comes to this kind of discussion. I know she's trying her best and the more I want to help her.

"If only you'll accept my help, Trix. You can pay me if that's what you want. I just wanna help you and Nana." I added which I know is a never ending discussion where I always give up at the end.

"I'll think about it." is her only response.

How I wish one day she'll accept my offer. Maybe if that time comes, I can drag her and Nana to Seattle and convince them both to live there and be with me.

"I know you understand that my mom's life revolved around this place. She don't want to leave this place especially our house. She always felt the presence of my father and their memories here. So maybe you'll just get used of visiting us here once in a while."

"I don't mind at all being here. I love this place and I love you both. So let's hurry up coz I want to take a sip of my favorite. . ." but I got speechless when I feel a little splash of something wet on my face.

Thanks to my smart reflexes that I instantly closed my eyes when I felt it. I panicked and got confused. I don't know where it came from.

I slowly open my eyes and saw Trixie frustratedly eyeing her dress full of mud. There's some on her hair too. Now I know what I got on my face coz like Trixie I have it too on my white blouse.

When I look up, I saw a gray car stopped a few meters away from where we are standing. It's an Audi R8 if I'm not mistaken. I know it coz my sister Athena has one which my Dad gave her on her graduation last year while I have my A8 on my birthday. I feel the surge of anger as my eyebrows met. I clutched my purse tightly and rush to the car parked ahead.

"Hey! Get out of the card and look at what you did to us. You're such a careless bastard. Get out of the car now!" I shouted to whoever was the driver inside of it.

I can't imagine myself that angry. I'm really pissed off. But I didn't hear any reaction from whoever's inside. I kick the door of the car and I don't care if the paint will be dented. I just want to make this stupid fool apologize to what he did to us.

"Come on!  Get out and face us. Don't hide in there, coward!" now I am shouting madly.

In a moment, I heard the click of the door's lock and it slowly opened. I step back twice to give way for the door to open. I can see that the driver is a guy and I had a full view of him when he came out of the car. Trixie remained silent while I got speechless.

A guy in pale blue shirt paired with an over washed denim pants and wearing slippers went out of the car. He is a summed up TDH: tall, dark and handsome with a very sweet smile, a nose planted with perfection, twinkling gray eyes, well sculpted jawline and a full pinkish lips. He got this very manly skin with muscles at the right place that's showing off through his shirt.

"Hi! " he greeted with a smile plastered on his face.

So this is the bastard who ruined our day!
