I woke up in a dark and cold room.

I heard shuffling and saw with my night vision, that Indigo and Riptide were in here with me.

We were in chains and I noticed that we were near a beach. I looked at the soft and gentle waves longingly. It was torture to us water dragons, being so close to water, but being unable to get there.

The girl entered our chamber and said, "Who are you and what are you doing here?"

I looked her dead in the eye and said, "We have somewhere to be, but going here was a simple mistake. We took a wrong turn and here we are. We just want to get back to where we were going to go."

She nodded and said, "You should be on your way then. There are people here who don't want your kind near ours. I am Queen here, and so that means that I must protect my people."

I looked at her, stunned, and said, "You're the Queen? And what do you mean our kind?"

She raised a single eyebrow and said, "Water dragons of course. Some people feel unsafe around you, and those people just happen to be some of the most powerful here. So I would suggest you leave and never return, for your safety, not mine or theirs."

I furrowed my brow and said, "How? We're in chains, and you can't betray your kingdom."

A wolfish grin crawled on her face and she said breezily, "Oh, what a shame it would be if the chains my guards tied you with weren't that tight after all. What a tragedy it would be if somehow, you escaped and no one saw."

We all looked at her in awe and I said, "But this is your kingdom, you don't owe us anything, why should you help us?"

She responded with a wistful expression, "I've always been fascinated by Water Dragons, the way that they can shift from human to dragon in a matter of seconds, I've only ever seen one, and that was a long time ago. People thought that I was crazy for liking Water Dragons, but now that I'm Queen, it's nice to see them bite their tongue."

We nodded and Indigo asked, "What's your name?"

She smiled and said, "Reyna."

She looked hesitant before asking, "Can you turn into a water dragon, please? I've never seen one up close and I'd like to so..."

We smiled and said, "Yep!"

I closed my eyes and willed my body to change. I felt my body stretch and elongate, my legs and arms touching the ground, my wings growing, my nose becomes a snout, and my hands growing talons. Scales covered my body, my clothes melting into the sapphire background.

I looked up at Reyna and she gasped at the sight of all three of us.

My scales shone like the moon and were a glittering sapphire blue. My head was elegant and long, I had Sky blue eyes, and my wings seemed to drip with jewels, despite not having any on me. My wings were much larger than normal, and now they only added to my elegance.

Indigo had blue-purple scales. They shone in the starlight, and her figure was nice. Her legs were well defined, her snout was a bit more stout than mine, but still nice. She radiated an aura of sweetness and innocence. Her wings were a bit smaller than normal and could be awkward at times, but now their size only added to her overall sweetness. 

Riptide had cerulean scales. His body was a bit more muscled than ours, but not too bulky. His scales glittered as though they had jewels embedded in some places. He could be sweet, but when someone threatened those he loved, he could get aggressive. His eyes were sea green, but now he seemed to be showing off. His eyes were stormy, swirling and amazing.

"Wow," Reyna breathed. Her eyes were alight with childish wonder and awe. Humans were much smaller than Water Dragons. Our forearms were as tall as they were, so we towered over Reyna, despite being young. 

She shook her head and said, "Go, you should go now before someone tries to hurt you. Or even buy you as slaves. It's the sad truth here, there are slaved here and I try to treat them well, but others don't give them that same courtesy, despite me setting an example for them." 

We nodded and bid her goodbye. Our chains were broken from when we shifted, so we just had to get out of the room. We thanked Reyna and she said, "Go, go now! I don't think you'll be able to soon."

We smiled and I said, "Goodbye, and if you see an unusual wave, or what looks like a whale surfacing, but isn't, we're just coming by to say hi." I offered her a smile, and Reyna smiled in return.

We walked through the doors and disappeared into the coming night. The sky seemed endless, with the ocean reflecting it. Stars came down from the eternal blue of the night sky and took root in our ocean. The little book!  I suddenly remembered. I summoned water to bring it back to me.

After I was sure that teh book was in my hands, I dove in. Causing the smalles ripple to appear in the otherwise unblemished surface. Indigo went next, and Riptide after all of us.

I turned back into a dragon and swam towards our new home. Not knowing what we would see, but daring to hope.
