Step 2 - Outlining the beast
Begin outlining the rough sketch and put in the details. Here, I've made it maned (like a lion) sabre-toothed, added 3 horns on its head (2 just seemed like a normal amount of horns lol), gave it spiked elbows and a long, two-tassled tail lined with sharp bone projections. Also, I used pointed ears instead of rounded ones, and I incorporated the lynx's ear tufts on this cat beast. It has somewhat of a pissed/sly grimace on its face :/ (Didn't mean to let it turn out that way, but whatever XD That's the fun of art, you never know what may happen next ^^) As usual, you can add anything else you want on it, like feathers on its head, or bat wings, or twisted horns...etc.
To draw the fur/mane, experiment with different ways of brush strokes. I basically swish my pencil up and down, left and right randomly, curving slightly at some places to give it a natural bouncy look. You may discover your own way of drawing fur... in fact, I think I'll just post another chapter for fur drawing techniques... (It will come after this step)
Next, note the musculature of its forelimbs, and how the claws spread out. Also, the paw on the left-hand side displays a dew claw (remember that small claw they use to grip prey?) Refer to the paw I drew earlier on if you need to.
Rough in the background's slopes and you're done with the outlining process! XD Next up is giving the beast a unique look and hide, for example, stripes or spots, tattoo-like markings or dark fur in certain areas, like the paws or tail.
Also, by this point, remember to rub out any of the original rough lines from Step 1.
