Chapter 1 : Rachelle
Do you believe in doppelgängers? You know, the look-alike of a person who can be the evil version of themself. I didn't believe in them... until I met Rachelle.
My name is Sophie. I'm 25 years old. But the story I'm about to tell you happened to me when I was 15.
At that time, I was a teenager like any other. Carefree, but above all, reckless. I had loving parents, great friends, and a sweet boyfriend. At school, I got average grades and socializing was pretty easy for me. I lived with my parents in a nice big house. So I had a fairly quiet life. But everything changed when I met her...
It was just another afternoon. When I got out of high school, my two best friends, Kelly and Madison, suggested that the three of us go to the park. There we took tons of pictures: one by the fountain, one on the swing, and so on. We posted them all on our instagram accounts before doing a tik tok on Madison's account. We had a lot of fun talking about anything and everything. My friends and I only stayed in the park for an hour before my boyfriend, Kurt, suggested we go to a movie. Now!
- It was a habit with him. He always did everything at the last minute. Whether it was for school projects or a birthday present. It was quite annoying sometimes, but deep down I liked him like that. He and I had been a couple for a year, but I still loved him as much as before. He was handsome, nice, and very caring. -
So I grabbed my bag and said goodbye to my friends before rushing to the cinema so I wouldn't miss the start of the film Kurt wanted us to watch together. High school love was the title of the film. It lasted almost an hour. An hour that Kurt and I spent fondling each other. After the movie, he and I took a picture of the two of us kissing in front of the camera.
When I got home (after walking around downtown for a while), I said hello to my parents, who had both returned from work. My father was a doctor and my mother a veterinarian. Kissing my mother, who was chopping carrots for tonight's dinner, I asked :
'Mom, I have a lot of homework for tomorrow. Can you not watch the Fashion Star finale so we can watch it together on replay tomorrow?'
'No way' she replied. 'I can't let my colleagues watch the finale before me... But I can promise not to tell you the ending until you've watched it.'
'Oh thank you Mum' I shouted, kissing her again. 'You're the best!'
So I went up to my room to do my homework while my mum watched the finale of the best show on the planet: Fashion Star. My dad was on his computer. After doing my math, physics, and science homework, I was about to finish my Spanish homework when my phone started vibrating. I grabbed it and saw the message from an unknown number. "Hi" was what it said. I went to see if it was one of my friends who had a new phone but the message was from WhatsApp. WhatsApp? But I hardly ever used that app. I had even forgotten that I had it installed. To be honest, when I wanted to chat with my friends or Kurt, I used Snapchat instead. Not WhatsApp. I only chatted with my grandparents on WhatsApp and that was just because they didn't have Snapchat. Besides, we hardly ever talk to each other. So who was this unknown number? I went into the chat they had opened and replied with a :
- Hi. Who R U?
- My name is Rachelle.
- How did you get my number?
- I was bored so I typed in a random number and it came up. Sorry if I bothered you. Do you want to chat with me?
- Oh, relax. I don't even know if you're really a girl. Maybe you're just a pervert who wants to hurt me.
- No, I assure you my name is Rachelle, and I'm a girl.
- Prove it.
She sent me a picture of herself. At that moment, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
- You look like me. It's completely crazy! 🙀😮🤩
Indeed, our long brown hair, our brown eyes, our faces... We looked like two peas in a pod, she and I. It was mind-blowing!
- Really? Do I look like you? Send me a picture.
Without thinking, I sent her a picture of me while my Spanish homework was still lying on my desk.
- We do look a lot alike.
- It can't be a coincidence. I'm sure it was fate that we met.
- Do you believe in fate?
- Well, no, but it's still pretty weird. You typed in a random number, and you got your look-alike's number.
- I guess you're right. It must be fate... And now that I've proved to you that I'm a girl, can we talk?
- Okay.
- Cool. How old are you?
- I'm fifteen.
- So am I.
- Really? Must be another coincidence. So when were you born?
- On February 15th. When were you born?
- 26th April.
- Do you live in a house or an apartment?
- I live in a hostel. My father was violent with me, and my mother was a drug addict.
- I'm sorry😢😭
- It's okay. So you live in an apartment?
- No, in a house.
- Do you live with both your parents?
- Yes, I do.
- Lucky me...
- Oh, sorry. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it.
- No, don't worry. Say, how many friends do you have?
- About 20 or so. But truthfully, I hang out more with my best friends, Kelly and Madison. What about you?
- I only have one friend.
- What's her name?
- It's you, my only friend.
- We've just met, by the way.
- Maybe, but I already know that you are a good person... And you have a boyfriend?
- Yes, I have.
- What's his name?
- Kurt.
- That's a very beautiful name. I imagine he must be handsome.
- He's even super cute. He's very caring and very nice💞. We've been a couple for a year👫. But anyway, what about you, do you have a boyfriend?
- No. Guess no boys like me.
- No, don't say that. I'm sure there's at least one guy who has a crush on you. You just don't see it.
- Thank you. That's very encouraging.👍😊
- Don't worry. We'll support each other between girls.
Rachelle and I talked until midnight. I really liked talking to her. We had a lot in common. We liked the same songs, the same food, and we told each other everything. Like best friends.
But that was only the beginning, because soon I would find out who this girl really was.
