Lucky Walls
TW: Angst and Death and Suicide
*So I know I have requests and MAB to be working on but I saw Rythian's Lucky Walls (Vid on side/above) and HAD TO write this. Enjoy!!
I’ve been wandering for months now. Everyone I ever cared for is gone, living happily with newfound friends, forgetting the old. Trying to forget the old.
I don’t blame any of them, they had every right to leave. I told them to go. Ravs stayed for a few months, being driven from town after another accidental killing. Zoey, she just up and left one day. She left a note, saying she thought it would be better if we parted ways. She couldn’t go on, wanting to do science but seeing how much it bothered me, despite how well I tried to hide it.
She’s sent a few letters, just telling me that she was alive and well and if she had time she would love to come visit Cabertown sometime. We both know that will never happen.
After our escape from the labyrinth we returned to see nothing had changed except a pool that Nilesy built while we were away. News came that everyone else was leaving, moving to start again somewhere different. Teep went with Ravs after Ravs hired him as his personal bodyguard. I watched them disappear into the dark night.
After that the people of Cabertown started to stay away, not talking or looking at me when I went into town. I packed a bag with what was necessary and started walking, no destination in mind.
I stumbled upon a house with a sign above the door saying: “For Rythian.” When I saw that I turned and went the other way.
To be honest I didn’t think I was ever going to see anyone again, I thought I was going to die alone in the wilderness somewhere. So when Ridgedog approached me and said he needed some players for a new game, I was in shock.
As much as I resisted he still brought me to where I am now, stuck in a glass chamber in a small room made of bedrock. Ridge told me I wouldn’t be seeing anyone until the game was about to start, assuring me it wasn’t another Survival Games.
“Hello and welcome to another fun survival game, with your host, Angor!” While I’ve never met Angor, I assume they are one of Ridge’s demi-friends. “Today’s game is going to be a bit different. It’s like the game The Walls, but with a slight twist!”
He goes on to explain that it is Lucky Block themed, and each quadrant has something especially for each member of our team. We will be given forty lucky blocks, four very lucky blocks, and for very unlucky blocks. In the middle there will be a plethora of lucky blocks, varying in luck. We have twenty minutes before the walls fall. Last team to have a surviving member wins.
I’m suddenly teleported to another hole, the sun shining high above my head. Trying to take in my surroundings before the game starts I see tall black pillars and what looks to be a castle made of stone bricks.
“Hello?” At that voice I stiffen, hearing someone else reply. “Hey!”
“Looks like I got a pretty good team,” I say.
“Rythian?” She says it quietly, so as I can just hear her through the block of bedrock that separates us.
“Who’s all on our team?” Turps.
“Zoey!”
“I’m Rythian.”
“Turps. Aw, this is going to be great!”
A voice booms over the loudspeakers. “Let the games begin!” The ground raises us up so we are able to get out, scrambling out of the holes.
“A rainbow!” I smile, looking at the redhead who is now wearing a purple space suit.
Turps, with his signature purple shirt and brown jacket, runs forward toward the tall black pillars. “Oh hey, we have these big black rocks and,” Running over to the brick castle, “Black Pebble Stronghold, which must be your guy’s thing.”
I nod, turning to look at Zoey who is standing on the rainbow path smiling sadly at me. I nod and turn away, going to a nearby tree to start knocking it down. Turps runs around, trying to find his thing while Zoey and I start exploring.
Turps ends up finding a chest in Black Pebble filled with our lucky blocks, starting to break open some of the very lucky ones while I build up to get the one on top of the black rock pillars. Zoey helps break open them, finding a diamond ax.
As we continue to explore Zoey and I try to avoid each other as much as possible, Zoey exploring the area and looking for secret chests while Turps and I work on opening lucky blocks and trying not to die.
“Oh, Rythian!” I turn, reaching for a sword that isn’t there.
“Zoey?”
Turps starts laughing, something large drawing my eyes upward. “It’s a giant zombie!”
“Oh, he’s friendly it’s - oh no it’s not! He’s spotted me.” Zoey jumps over a small pond, standing next to where I’ve set up a crafting area and workbench.
“How much health does he have?” I move to start hitting the zombie, Turps one step ahead of me as he kills it with a sword he found. “Oh, good. Okay.”
Zoey skips past me, disappearing behind Black Pebble. “Alright- Oh shi- RUN!” I don’t question it, my instincts driving me forward in the direction of Zoey. There is a large boom!!!!! that sends me sprawling towards the ground.
“Wha- Rythian?”
“It’s okay Zoey!” I call, picking myself up off the ground and readjusting my scarf. “Turps?”
“You guys alright? Sorry!” I roll my eyes and laugh.
“We’re good,” I call back. Zoey appears around the corner.
“What happened?”
I shake my head. “Turps broke a lucky block that wasn’t so lucky.” She nods, going back to whatever she was doing before.
I go back to where our chest full of stuff was, finding a huge crater in it’s place. “Um, we may have just lost everything in that chest.”
“Wha- Turps!” He laughs.
“Hey, at least I still have our blocks.”
He laughs again. “Okay, you know what? That’s fine. There’s still a chest in Black Pebble Stronghold, I’ll go get that. Try not to blow anyone, or thing, else up.”
“No promises!”
I walk over to the Stronghold, a ‘seven minutes left’ reminder chiming through the speakers. I hear the wail of a ghast and turn to see one flying towards us. I shake my head, watching it turn and fly away from us.
Walking inside I’m not at all prepared for a girl to come tumbling through the ceiling. “Wha- Oh hello Zoey,” I say, staring at this girl that is now in my arms.
“Hi Rythian,” She smiles up at me. “I fell through a hole in the ceiling.”
I look up, staring out at the sky. “Yea, I can see that.” A feeling of deja vu comes over me, and I set her down. “Be careful next time, okay?”
She nods, thanking me before running out of the stronghold. I watch her go, a tear coming to my eye that I quickly wipe away.
I grab the chest and go back to Turps, setting it down and helping him break more blocks. We continue to do this until I go back to the Stronghold and find Zoey has built marble stairs leading upstairs. “Oh what?”
“I figured we could hide out up here. I lined the area with obsidian and we can delete the stairs after we come up.”
I nod, handing her a few more pieces of obsidian. “Alright, cool.” I head back outside and jump in surprise when a bunch of multi-colored sheep appear in front of me.
“Oh Rythian! It’s Mr. Rainbow!” I laugh, looking up at the turret where she stands. “The prophecy came true!” We get a message saying the walls have fallen, the ghast that I thought had died coming back and shooting fire balls at us. “Oh no! The sheep are all on fire! The prophecy didn’t predict this!”
Zoey stands on the rainbow road a few feet away, looking around panicking. I see the fireball before she does, unable to do anything as it hurls towards her. “Zoey!”
I drop to my knees, the message: Zoey burned to death appearing in front of me. “Noooo! I’m sorry Turps!” I see him out of the corner of my eye, a tear rolling down my cheek as I step in front of the fireball.
