Chapter Two
The Crimson Marchioness and the Dandelion Blacksmith
Chigiri's mother, the Marchioness of the Hyouma Household, was so elated to meet the eldest son of the Karasu Household. Coming all the way from a foreign land, asking for Chigiri's hand in marriage.
The Karasu's are close relatives of the Aiku's Imperial Family in Santario, Western Kingdom of Astoria, by joining hands with the Hyouma household — it would be beneficial for them and the Veilchenblau's Imperial Family as the two Kingdoms power will prosper throughout the years. Fixed marriages were commonly practised amongst the high ranking nobles to keep their wealth and status intact thus, it was followed religiously.
"My, my, what a handsome young man you are, young lord Tabito." The Marchioness complimented while fanning herself.
"I thank you for your compliment, Marchioness Hyouma." Karasu smiled gracefully at the noble, he then turned his attention to Chigiri still keeping that vibrant aura around him, "but your daughter's beauty is much more enticing than mine."
Chigiri flinched when he was complimented, in a daze the whole time, simply because he didn't like pretending at all. This marriage was nothing but a front to keep the two household's reputation after all. It was never meant to make him happy but he had to put on a good act since he didn't want to be scolded by his mother so he focused his gaze at Karasu who's smiling ear to ear.
Must be hard pretending with that forced smile of yours. You and I are both the same.
It was obvious that the two of them did not want this but were obliged to do this. Karasu thought of topics they could discuss, to at least break the ice.
"What are your hobbies, My lady?" Karasu asks a question so commonly found in the textbook of wooing.
"Fencing." Chigiri answers monotonously, probably bored of having asked the same question throughout the years.
"Oh, isn't that lovely, My lady."
"Yup."
There was a long pause after. Karasu noticed that the Lady isn't much of a talker, he was engaging in their small talks so much but Chigiri was too disinterested to match his energy. It was exhausting for Karasu but he had to impress Chigiri somehow.
"I love baking." Karasu boasted. "It's something everyone in our Kingdom found odd about me."
"That's nice." Chigiri responded monotonously.
The Marchioness did not like how Chigiri responded and gave him a sharp glare, Chigiri noticed this and crunched his brow. He was really trying his best to answer but he's coming out sarcastic whenever he speaks to Karasu. It was his natural response to anyone that he doesn't like.
Karasu picked that up, he isn't naive or insensitive to what his future fiancé was feeling. Instead of feeling offended by how Chigiri acted, he reached out to Chigiri to hold that left hand lightly. He can feel Chigiri jumped from what he just did, the other wasn't flustered though if anything Chigiri seemed extremely awkward.
"It's alright. You don't have to force yourself to interact with me. Just be yourself. I really don't mind."
Chigiri thought that this guy is too good to be true, he didn't know if he would feel bad or feel suspicious of it since this arrangement is purely in the intention of their families, never their choice to begin with.
"Thank you." Chigiri pulled his hand back, he was told to act like himself so he abided by it.
Karasu didn't mind the attitude at all, he remained calm and collected as he smiled at the two ladies in front of him. Turning his attention to the Marchioness who had a grim expression watching Chigiri acting rude towards him. For sure, Chigiri would get scolded later. That kind of thing isn't foreign to Karasu, after all his family did scold and punish him for doing the same.
Fighting for the person he loves.
"Marchioness, please don't scold Lady Hyouma. Do understand that this arrangement is difficult for her to take." Karasu spoke with a hint of sympathy in his tone, he genuinely didn't want to chain Chigiri down, "I don't want her to feel obligated or tied down because of this. If anything, please let us have a fruitful relationship despite our families deciding for us to be wed."
The Marchioness was impressed by Karasu's maturity, knowing that he's only a year older than Chigiri. It was no doubt Karasu was strictly disciplined by Aiku's Imperial Household, she massaged her right temple and sighed, "Very well then. I shall leave you two to talk. Perhaps my daughter will change her mind once you two settle down."
"Thank you, Marchioness."
The Marchioness composed herself and stood up, not batting an eye at Chigiri anymore. She will trust Karasu in dealing with this.
When the Marchioness disappeared from their sight, Chigiri spoke, "You can drop the charade now, you know." he spoke sharply.
"I wasn't pretending, 'ya know." Karasu laughed, his accent and tone changed, "Sorry to break it to 'ya sweetheart. As much as 'ya don't like this whole circus, I never liked it too."
"Your accent, it's so weird." Chigiri squinted his eyes mockingly.
"Wow. Thanks. 'Yer weird too." Karasu shrugged and slumped on the sofa. Thankful that he doesn't have to be stiff anymore since his future fiance is obviously chaos incarnate like himself.
"Is that Santorian Kansarr language?" Chigiri asked curiously.
"Kansarr language?" Karasu repeated.
"Mhmm. I've studied languages before. Kansarr, One of the hardest languages in Astoria since it's closely related to the Primeval Deities language and is used for Ancient Magic, since Western Kingdom is known for Yggdrasil, the Mana tree. Surely there are people who studied Ancient Language to protect it, correct?" Chigiri explained, preaching like a scholar.
"I'm impressed 'ya know 'yer stuff. Well, technically our stuff." Karasu chuckled, this little lady is knowledgeable. She's not an ordinary spoiled to the core one of a kind and definitely not someone who'll just nod and abide by the rules. He kinda likes it.
"Of course, nobles in the northern kingdom are taught this much at least."
"Ya guys are soooo obsessed with knowledge that 'ya turn 'yerself to robots."
"Isn't that a good thing? That's why we are the most powerful Kingdom in all of Astoria because we use our brains not brawn to fight."
"And that's also why 'yer all manipulative as fuck in all Astoria."
Chigiri's mouth went agape, how can this foreigner accuse all the people of Veilchenblau in front of a citizen like him. He was about to retaliate when Karasu raised a hand in his face to stop him from commenting.
"Listen, I ain't here to mock 'ya little lady. Just sayin' 'yer Kingdom was the reason the others are crumbling down. Losing power and all that shit."
"Why are you telling me this, you think I'll believe you?"
Karasu shook his head,"I ain't expecting 'ya to, little princess. I'm telling ya all of this for transparency. This marriage was never out of the purest intentions. From the outside it'll look like 'yer Kingdom and mine will be united yet it's a way to control ours."
"You're NOT making any sense."
"Think about it, Little Princess. Use that so-called knowledge of yours that you are so proud of." Karasu changed his accent and arched himself forward, staring at Chigiri's eyes intensely. He's not here to fool around, he's here to negotiate for his people. As their sacrificial lamb for the Veilchenblau's Imperial Family.
"Why can't we just be arranged to the Imperial Family? Why do our branch or noble families who are close to the Imperial Family want to be wed instead? Don't you think that's a bit suspicious?"
"I still don't get it."
"What I meant to say is that it's easy to put a leash on both of us."
"What?"
"Your friends with the Veilchenblau's Imperial Family because the Hyouma Household is the pillar that protects the Kingdom as for me, I'm the second in line to the throne. If Emperor Oliver passed away without an Heir then I'll rule Santorio in his stead."
"So?"
"If we were married it'll be beneficial for the Kaiser's Imperial Family to snake their way inside our Imperial Family via you, Little Princess." Karasu pointed his finger at Chigiri, "Without dirtying their hands. They can't just accuse you if anything bad happens. It's like pin the tail on the donkey. You're the donkey and they are pinning the blame on you."
"I think you've misunderstood something here, Lord Karasu–"
"Tabito."
"Huh?"
"Call me that. We're gonna get married soon anyways."
"Okay. Tabito." Chigiri rolled his eyes and continued, "We will never do anything to cause anyone trouble let alone use them for our personal gain. Never. We're doing this to benefit both of our Kingdoms. Period."
"Oh? Can you tell me that with a straight face that your Imperial Family would not dare haggle our Mana? You did say that they were powerful because of the Yggdrasil Tree, could you swear to me, for the sake of my people, people of Santorio that you, Chigiri Hyouma will never ever harm our Kingdom."
"I would never."
"Then, can you swear that the crowned prince, your friend, would not be greedy, selfish and manipulative to use us for the benefit of your Kingdom."
"He would–" Chigiri stopped his tracks. He wasn't confident Kaiser wouldn't, knowing the Prince for years. Kaiser is an ambitious man but he won't do something that Vile, right.
Karasu grinned when Chigiri hesitated, even a loyal friend couldn't mask the crown Prince true colours,"You're doubting aren't 'ya, Little Princess?"
"I'm not doubting..."
"It's obvious how your face sank with what I asked for you to swear. So, you do know your friend can do something like that."
"....Even so, I can be his voice of reason so your argument can be proven wrong. I can tell you, he's not like his ancestors who are greedy and merciless." Chigiri stands corrected.
"All talk. We'll see." Karasu sees no point in arguing further.
The reason why Chigiri defended Kaiser is because he believes that he will not follow the same bloody route his ancestors had gone through but bring peace and harmony to all Astoria, he prayed to their deities that it will never cross Kaiser's mind.
Seeing that long frown on Chigiri's face after their little argument, Karasu smiled. He didn't want to make Chigiri uncomfortable or lose his faith in the Imperial Family that he served.
"Hey, Little Princess." Karasu called, making Chigiri turn his head around, "I'll put my faith in you that the crown prince is different. He's not bad from what I heard anyways but that doesn't mean I wouldn't keep my guard up. I love my Kingdom just as you treasure yours, so I'm worried and I hope you understand that I won't take it lightly if Veilchenblau will hurt my people."
Chigiri nodded in acknowledgement. They do share the same sentiments."Your Kingdom is blessed to have someone like you and if you would lead Santorio someday. Santorio will be blessed with a strong and loving emperor."
Karasu chuckled, that's a lot of praise from his future fiancé plus Chigiri finally smiled so guessed that their short moment together was a success.
After their small chat about themselves Chigiri dismissed their talk since Karasu informed them that he had some business at Veilchenblau and will need to leave for a while and with that Chigiri bid Karasu farewell.
Going back to his room, His governess informed Chigiri that one of his swords was broken. Well, not physically defected but low on mana fuel. It was necessary that every weapon in Astoria is run by mana, if the mana is low there is a high risk that he might lose the tournament for the upcoming Flower Festival Martial Arts Event.
Chigiri needed to visit the Blacksmith that crafted his sword. If he does, he'll be able to see that guy. It's perfect, he'll be able to talk to him again to clear the misunderstanding from last time.
"Kunigami Rensuke." Chigiri mumbled," Sairin, Prepare the car. I'll be visiting the Dandelion Chivalry workshop."
"As you wish, My Lady."
"Oh and Sairin. Please don't address me as a Lady outside. I don't want anyone to recognize me."
The governess smiled gracefully and bowed.

Kunigami spends most of his time inside the Smithy without any guard or a shirt on, only a protected arm guard and mask on. He was busy crafting his father's commissions, In a scorching hot, oven-like workplace. It was filled with fire, coal and dust surrounded by clanging metals, ores, mineral and mana stones. Although Kunigami isn't one to complain, he's passionate about working as a blacksmith after all.
While Kunigami was busy slamming the hammer onto the unpolished sword, his father knocked and entered. "Son, someone is here to see you."
Kunigami stopped what he was doing, taking off the mask and dropping the hammer down,"Coming." He wiped the sweat off of his face using the towel wrapped around his shoulder. Stretching out a bit, walking out of the workshop. Halting his tracks, his father grabbed him by the shoulder and whispered.
"Be respectful, son." His father reminds him.
Kunigami was perplexed with the warning, it seems like this person he was about to meet is someone important, a high ranking client. He nodded and smiled gently at his father. When he reached outside Kunigami saw that familiar redhead waiting for him, knowing who it was already. He sneakily approached that person from behind, watching as the redhead noble kicked the dust off of his feet and mumbling.
"What's taking that commoner so long?"
"Sorry."
Chigiri felt a shiver from his left side when someone whispered in his ear, he immediately turned around in surprise, rubbing his left ear. Witnessing Kunigami laughing lightly at him. Chigiri's brows meet at the middle, he was a little furious from the teasing.
"Could you at least greet me without surprising me."
"Maybe next time." Kunigami etched a gentle curl in his lips.
Chigiri was about to retaliate again but stopped when he noticed Kunigami was topless. His cherry coated orbs widened, feeling the blood rushing from his neck to his face. He immediately averted his gaze, embarrassed about what he was seeing or even thinking–Wait, what is he thinking anyways.
"C-c-c-can y-you p-p-please.. PUT.. a freaking–shirk–Shirt on!" Chigiri's voice cracked, he didn't know where else to look.
"Ah." Kunigami wasn't bothered with Chigiri's reaction. It was common for him to work without his shirt on, "I'll get my shirt inside, please wait for me here."
"Y-Yeah! Whatever!"
Kunigami walked back to the smithy and took his shirt on and walked out after. The redhead noble was still panicking. Is this his first time seeing someone topless? They're both guys, what's wrong with him showing himself topless in front of him. Chigiri must be conservative.
"I'm back."
Chigiri took small glances at Kunigami, making sure he had his shirt on this time. Sighing in relief as he walked towards since Kunigami is fully clothed now but upon closing the gap between them, he can smell something was off–
"God." Chigiri clamped his nose, "You stink!"
"Ah." Kunigami frowned. Of course he does. He was at the smithy almost half of the day working on commissions. He didn't have time to take a bath. If Chigiri didn't come unannounced he would meet him fresh at least, "Do you want to wait for me until I'm done taking a bath then we can talk?"
"Urgh. Nevermind dammit." Chigiri huffed and took his hanky covering his nose while talking.
That was rude but if this redhead noble couldn't stand Kunigami's stink he won't complain, hopefully this talk will be as quick as possible he has a lot of work to do.
"Anyways, I'll cut to the chase." Chigiri snapped his fingers. Sairin approached Chigiri and presented the sword,"This one is defective. Please fix it, at least before the flower festival."
"Defective?" Kunigami took the white sword laced with red rubies, "Oh, do you mean lack of mana?"
"That's right. I can't use that if it's lacking mana, I don't want to embarrass myself in front of my opponent or in public." Chigiri demanded.
Kunigami nodded, "Alright. I'll fix it, Lady Hyouma."
Chigiri was taken aback. The blacksmith's son actually addressed him as Lady.
"So you do get it. Yesterday, when my maid addressed me as Lady. I knew it."
"Actually." Kunigami placed the sword down on the table,"I don't. At first, I thought it was just a mistake that she mistook you as Lady Hyouma and you were just embarrassed being called such."
"But how did you know now? You even address me as a lady."
"I was teasing you." Kunigami chuckled,"and I just confirmed today that you and the lady the maid addressed are one."
"How–oh..." Chigiri remembered what he said moments ago,"because I said I will be the one who's going to use the sword..." he palmed his face. I am stupid. Rang in his head.
"It's alright, Lady Hyouma. I won't tell anyone your identity. It's not a hobby of mine to gossip about other people anyways and I wont judge. I'm sure you have a reason for doing that. Rest assured, I will keep your secret to my grave."
Chigiri slowly removes his hands from his face and gazes at Kunigami, he usually don't believe something like that, last time someone knew his secret, the Hyouma household threatened that person but for some reason Kunigami's words felt so genuine that he will put his trust on it.
"Is this all you need me to fix? Add Mana on it, anything details you want to add."
"I do have one favour."
"Alright, what is it?" Kunigami took the sword and waited for Chigiri's instruction.
"Put your initials on it."
Kunigami was astounded. That was an unusual request. Usually their clients would ask their own initials, family crest or the blacksmith shops engraved on their swords in it as a sign of ownership or recognition for whoever owns or crafted it yet never a blacksmith's initials on it but Kunigami didn't question it.
Chigiri noticed his confusion and smiled subtly.
"It's for your talents to be recognized. So, I am expecting for you to make an amazing sword for me, I'll be using it to win the Flower Festival's Martial Arts Event." Chigiri claimed proudly.
"Thank you. I appreciate it. It'll be an honour to craft your sword Lady–"
"Ah, Ah, Ah." Chigiri flails his hand to stop Kunigami from speaking, "Don't call me Lady when I'm dressed as a man. Just Chigiri is fine."
"That's kind of rude. I don't want to address you without any honorifics."
"Okay, Master Chigiri. Better?"
"Why not Young Master Chigiri Hyouma instead?"
"Why are you being difficult? It's annoying."
Kunigami smiled, "So, are you Young Master Chigiri Hyouma."
"I said–" Chigiri gave up, this commoner is too stubborn, "Whatever. I'll expect that sword to be done four days from now."
"It'll be done by tomorrow."
"What?"
"I'm just teasing. I'm not so magical that I can finish this in a snap of my finger but I'll make sure it's the best sword in the entire festival. I promise."
"You better." Chigiri crossed his arms, "I'll get going, thank you Kunigami."
"Rensuke, Call me that."
Chigiri nodded to acknowledge Kunigami. He entered the car afterwards, driving away from the smithy. Kunigami watched Chigiri's car disappear from his sight, his smile never leaving his lips. Taking off his shirt again, holding Chigiri's sword with one hand. He entered the smithy and continued working.

After bidding farewell to the Hyouma Household a few hours ago, Karasu visited Veilchenblau's Imperial palace. Of course, Karasu would be welcome as an esteemed guest being showered by the best hospitality in the Kingdom.
Tabito Karasu was Emperor Oliver Aiku's half brother despite being half siblings, they have an amazing relationship. Some say that the two even caused the previous emperor a headache when they were younger.
Oliver dotes on Tabito very much. Oliver never had any little siblings since the Empress died of childbirth and was replaced a year after by Tabito's mother. The Second Empress was a kind and gentle woman, even if Oliver and the second Empress were not blood related she took great care of the two and loved Oliver as her own. It made Oliver bear no ill feelings that his father married such an amazing woman. It wasn't hard for Oliver to warm up to his little brother.
Karasu wandered around the Veilchenblau Palace, he paid no mind to whatever special treatment he was receiving. His ulterior motive, the reason why he agreed with the marriage proposal and visit a foreign country is to see someone he's longing for.
Karasu ceased his tracks when he saw that familiar magenta haired boy passing by the golden hallway. Adrenaline rushed through Karasu's body as he hastily ran towards that person, shouting the boy's name. It vibrated through the halls that even the servants turned to look at him. The boy turned around, his rose coloured orbs widened seeing Karasu but his demeanour wasn't welcoming, he turned his heel around and walked away from Karasu.
Karasu glumed watching the magenta haired boy escape. The memories were flooding in his head, desperately chasing that person. How long has Karasu waited for this day to see him again, he won't let this opportunity slip by.
Not again.
❀•°❀°•❀
Alexis Ness.
That young boy. His mother is a Santorian and His father is a Veilan, both were nobles to their respective Kingdom. A noble with mixed blood like Alexis could be beneficial for both Kingdoms.
Alexis is a shy boy, always clutching his mother's leg when he is being introduced. He'll cry if someone other than his parents approach him, loved being carried around making him feel protected. No one expected anything from him despite being a prestigious Noble from his mother and father's side.
One day, the Ness household attended a tea party held by the Empress, Tabito's mother. In that party Tabito and Alexis finally meet along with the Crowned Prince, Oliver Aiku, Eita Otoya and Kenyu Yukimiya. Alexis was scared of meeting everyone, earning unusual glances from the young nobles.
The empress warmly welcomed them yet Duchess Ness was apologetic with her Alexis' actions, stubbornly clinging to his mother since Alexis didn't want to interact with the young nobles so they were dismissed by the Empress.
The four decided to play in the garden.
"That boy is such a weirdo!" Aiku complained, throwing the rock at the pond, watching it bounce, two taps before it sank by the water.
"Not surprised, You do have a scary face, Oliver. Stop looking so grumpy." Otoya teased, taking a stone to toss it as well.
"Why me? Kenyu was so intimidating that he cried and for the record, I'm the most handsome guy in the entire Kingdom. There's no way he won't fall for my charms!" Aiku pumped his chest proudly.
Karasu laughed at Aiku and Otoya bickering while Yukimiya ignored while he was reading under the tree.
"I think he's cute though." Karasu commented, "Very cute."
Aiku and Otoya exchanged glances, Yukimiya subtly turned his gaze at Karasu as the three stopped talking.
"What?" Karasu looks at his friends, all eyes on him.
"Ho~ Ho~ someone's got a crush!" Otoya jumped at Karasu and wrapped his arm around his friend's shoulder, "You think he's a cutie pie~"
"Yeah. Isn't he?" Karasu stared at Otoya innocently then turned to Aiku, "Right, brother?"
Aiku chuckled, nodding at Karasu, "Yeah, yeah, he is. So, you like him?"
"Mhmm! I wanna be friends with him." Karasu hummed happily
"What's his name again?" Otoya shook Karasu lightly. Aiku was also trying to remember.
"Alexis Ness." Karasu answered with a huge smile on his face.
Otoya and Aiku looked at each other again like they were scheming something fishy. Yukimiya was grinning while listening to them. Karasu is too innocent to understand what they were thinking, It was adorable.
Aiku informed the Empress about his little brother's secret crush. The Empress was amused with Aiku's story telling that she agreed to invite Ness to play with them. Of course, it was difficult for the boys to befriend someone like Ness. He's like a cat, fickle and cautious. Ness doesn't trust them.
Whenever the Duchess left Ness with them he would hide behind the tree or ball himself in the corner, cowering in fear.
Ness wouldn't budge at all.
Aiku, Otoya and Yukimiya were close to giving up. They really can't handle Ness' stubbornness but Karasu was determined, he wanted to befriend Ness so badly that he tried spoiling the little boy with toys, food or just anything to catch Ness' attention yet It was futile.
"Just give up Tabito. That boy is a lost cause." Otoya grumbles, rolling on the bed.
"Tabi, he's too stubborn to deal with." Aiku sighed, "No wonder that boy has no friends."
"I cant believe I'm saying this but I agree." Yukimiya sighed, closing the book he was reading
"I still want to be friends with him. Maybe we just need a little push?"
"Push? We're trying! He's just–AAAAA" Otoya flails his hands and feet, "I cant anymore!"
"Just leave him Tabi, he's not worth it. There are a lot of nobles out there who are more pretty and friendly than Alexis." Aiku walked towards Karasu, smiling as he placed both of his hands onto his brother's shoulders, "Okay?"
Karasu's eyes glittered with determination, "I want Alexis Ness."
Aiku's mouth went agape. He had never seen that spark in Karasu's eyes before. If anything, he would give up easily or be bored if he couldn't get what he wanted so it was a surprise that Karasu was actually interested in something plus Aiku was too weak for that cute little brother of his, crushing on some stubborn pink haired boy. He couldn't help but chuckle.
"Okay, brother. We'll help you."
"What?" Otoya and Yukimiya reacted in unison.
"We'll befriend Alexis Ness." Aiku smiled at Otoya and Yukimiya,"For Tabi."
With that declaration, The young nobles tried their best to win Ness' heart. It wasn't easy, they spent months getting Ness' favour but the boy pushed them further away, their advances being thrown out of the window.
Yukimiya and Otoya were on the verge of giving up and If Aiku wasn't cheering them up, they would have thrown up their hands.
Aiku's being fueled by the desire to see the outcome of Karasu chasing Ness was amusing to him.
"I won't give up. I'll definitely help Tabito with Alexis."
One sunny afternoon.
Everyone had gotten busy. Aiku attended his special classes. Otoya and Yukimiya were out of town with their families leaving Karasu, the only one left entertaining Ness, both were by the library, reading and sitting a metre apart.
Karasu was staring hard at Ness across the table and it made Ness extremely uncomfortable, averting his gaze back and forth.
"Your eyes are so pretty." Karasu murmured
Ness squinted, looking at Karasu dubiously.
"They're pink like roses, even your hair. It's pretty, it's pink and yellow like cotton candies and sunset."
"...."
"Maybe because you're half, your mama has beautiful pink hair while your papa has pretty yellow hair. No wonder you're very pretty."
Ness gripped the book he was reading tightly, "No. I'm not."
"Hm?" Karasu was surprised when he heard Ness speak.
"Nothing."
"Oh! You can actually talk, yay!" Karasu happily clapped, "I'm Tabito Karasu, just call me Tabito, tabi works too!"
He extended his hand, in an attempt to shake Ness hand, even though they're too far apart.
"I.. I know.. You have been shouting your name.. A lot..."
"That's good, you remember me!" Karasu pulled his hand back knowing Ness wouldn't return the gesture.
Now his elbow rests on the table while his head cradles on his hand, "So, what did you say earlier?"
"...."
"Come on now! Since you can talk, let's talk for a bit. I'm boooored. I miss my brother, Eita and Kenyu! They're studying and with their families." Karasu rambled.
Ness sighed and focused his eyes at Karasu,"I don't understand. Why are you all trying so hard to be friends with me? What do you want..."
"Want?" Karasu crooked his head to the side and rocked on his chair, "I want to be friends with you, Alexis. Isn't that obvious? Well, all of us actually."
"Why?"
"Do we need a reason to?"
"I'm sure you have a reason to, if not then why?"
"To be honest, I'm the only persistent one. I want to be friends with you badly. That's all!"
Ness still wasn't convinced.
"I just want to, nothing more. You seem kinda lonely too. You won't gain any friends if you keep pushing them away."
"It's.. better this way.. At least I won't be sad if I dont have friends..."
"Huh? Well, that's true but wont you also be hurting if you're alone. Don't you feel sad when you're on your own? You can't share your happiness with anyone, you can't cry or lean onto someone when you're sad. So, it's also sad."
"At least I'll be sad alone."
"That sucks." Karasu pouted, "Be my friend. I promise I'll listen to you when you're happy, I'll be your shoulder when you cry!"
Ness crunched his brow, "What will you gain from doing this?"
"You."
"......"
"Just you. Is there anything else I need to gain from it? I actually don't need anything. I just want you."
Ness slumped his shoulder. It was annoying that Karasu and his friends pestered him everyday just because they wanted to be friends with him.
If he says yes to be their friend they'll stop but it will be another level of nuisance to him but at least they won't have to try so hard anymore. He could just sit with them and listen to whatever shenanigans they pull.
"Alexis?"
"Fine. I'll be your friend so please be less annoying..."
"Yay!" Karasu ran towards Ness' side and cupped both of the boy's hands, shaking it vehemently while keeping that dopey grin on his face, "I promise. I won't ever make you feel sad! You won't regret being my friend, Alexis."
"Hey.. Let go."
Time flies so fast ever since that day Karasu convinced Ness to be their friend and he stayed true to his words.
Ness was filled with genuine happiness. It didn't even take that long for him to warm up to the young nobles.
Otoya and Ness would often throw pranks at Yukimiya since he's the easiest target.
Yukimiya and Ness would exchange books that they read and would often bond in the library just listening to each other's stories.
Aiku would teach Ness Royal Etiquettes and lastly Karasu would talk or play with Ness all day, showering Ness with gifts although Ness would scold him if he went overboard.
When Karasu, Aiku, Otoya, Yukimiya and Ness turn into Young Adults, they are given special tasks by the Emperor of Santorio each with their own responsibilities keeping the Kingdom safe and sound.
It was also that time when Karasu confessed to Ness of how he felt, the others knew that the two had special feelings for each other and it was no surprise that they would end up together.
Their days were filled with happiness and bliss.
Not until the news of the current Emperor's sudden illness that caused him to lose his life devastated the whole Kingdom of Santorio. His death shocked everyone in the Imperial Household.
They did not anticipate this at all.
The Emperor left a will for his family. Perhaps he knew that his life would forfeit anytime soon yet he dared not to tell anyone.
The first will was dedicated to Aiku. To be crowned as the next Emperor of Santorio and the late Emperor's last dying wish made all colours from Karasu's face disappear.
"Ness and Kaiser Household union." Aiku repeated what he just read, turning to his younger brother with pure worry in his eyes.
Aiku knew that Karasu wouldn't take this news lightly.
"Why Ness Household? Why not other nobles? Why would father do this? I asked for his permission to marry Alexis, brother. He gave his blessing so why is he taking it back now!"
Karasu slammed his hand on Aiku's table angrily.
Aiku let out a breath and placed the emperor's will down, looking at his brother's quivering black orbs. He knew Karasu would break down hearing something like this.
"I.. I love him... I love Alexis, brother. Is there any way we could..."
"It wasn't Father's decision alone."
"What do you mean..."
"I'm sorry Tabi but this was between the Late Emperor and Ness' household that is why we kept it confidential."
Aiku was choosing his words carefully, in hopes that Karasu would understand, "Duke Ness is an influential man in Veilchenblau."
"So?"
"And with this unison Duke Ness could use Alexis to strengthen our relationship with them."
"I don't understand."
"Tabito." Aiku knew that Karasu was pretending not to understand where he was coming from.
"This unison will help our Kingdom to survive. The Veilchenblau Royalty are greedy and selfish people. All the kingdom in Astoria feared them and wouldn't even go against them. You have to understand that having the Ness household serve as a bridge between our Kingdoms, we'll be able to protect Santorio."
"They don't have to do this."
Aiku smiled sadly, "Alexis offered himself."
Karasu's heart stopped.
Alexis offered himself?
Those words echoed in Karasu's mind like a broken record, shaking his head as he walked backwards, pointing at his brother. Karasu doesn't believe that claim. There's no way Ness would do such a thing. They vowed to each other.
"It's true." Aiku frowned, watching Karasu in agony.
"No, No, No. Why? We're lovers. He wouldn't just jump into another man's arms without telling me!" Karasu was slamming his balled fist in his chest harshly.
"I suppose Alexis knows his responsibility. It's time you learn yours, Tabito." Aiku rested his elbows on the table and linked his fingers together, staring sternly at his brother.
I regret that I spoiled you so much that you're acting like this.
"Tabito, If you don't pull yourself together and act like a proper member of the Imperial Family. I won't have a choice but to punish you. So, I am asking you now as your brother DO NOT intervene with Ness and Kaiser's Union because If you do. I will be forced to restrain you as your Emperor, understand?"
"Brother, how could you do this?"
"I have to do whatever it takes to protect our Kingdom."
"You know so damn well that we love each other, you know how much Alexis meant to me. You, Father and everyone else supported us. Why break that now, when there are other ways to save our Kingdom."
"I'm so sorry Tabito. This is the only way so don't make this any harder."
"I won't stand down. I won't give up on Alexis and I. I'm sure he won't too!"
"TABITO."
Karasu stormed off before Aiku could ever knock some sense out of him. Aiku lost all energy to deal with his brother. He would trust Ness to handle this issue this time. Surely, the lovers could deal with this.

Karasu snapped back to reality, he was inching closer to Ness. Those damn years were torturous, his desperation to see Ness everyday grew stronger. All of his emotions whirling inside him like a raging storm. There's no way he would let this moment pass by him anymore.
"Alexis, wait!" Karasu shouted, chasing Ness, "I said wait! Don't you have ears or something!"
Finally catching up, Karasu snatched Ness arm and pulled him back, "Alexis."
"Tabito, Let go." Ness was pushing Karasu away but the other was much stronger than him and his grip stayed.
"Why didn't you return my calls, texts or even sent someone to–"
"Stop. Not here." Ness frowned, he didn't want to meet Karasu's eyes. "Don't you get it? I don't want to see you anymore."
"And why is that? Your marriage with the Kaiser's Imperial Household was called off decades ago. Why do you still choose to stay!?"
"You don't understand, you will never understand. Let me go."
"I love you Alexis, I always do! I've longed for you, all these years, I fucking waited. I want you back. I don't care about anything else, just come back to me." Karasu pulled Ness closer by caging both of his arms to face him.
"You–" For a split second, Ness met Karasu's eyes and he immediately turned away.
"Alexis, Please!" Karasu begged desperately.
"Keep your voice down." Ness was still trying to push Karasu away, "It's too late. We can't be together."
"I'm fighting for us, Alexis. I have always gone against my family's wishes just to be with you. Why are you giving up on us so easily?"
"Cause we can't be."
"Alexis. Please, tell me, tell me you still love me. If you do, I'll break my engagement with Lady Hyouma."
"Huh?"
"I'm going to get married, Alexis."
"Marry?"
"Yes, Arranged Marriage, to the eldest daughter of the Hyouma Household and after that this is really the end for us."
Karasu was hopeful when Ness slowly focused his attention on him, "I agreed to get married just to see you. I wanted to see you again and this is the only way to see you. My brother, the Emperor, forbade me to leave the palace grounds. Accepting this was my escape from that prison. I wanted to see you Alexis."
"...."
"If you still love me, if I still have a place in your heart, even just a small part in your heart, I will break off my engagement and fight for us one last time."
Ness' heart was being squeezed in his chest, from childhood to present. Karasu is as persistent as ever. He had always been faithful.
Ness was already tainted; They could never go back to the way they used to before. Karasu doesn't deserve someone like him anymore. Those were the things that were poisoning Ness' mind.
Ness shook his head. He thought that Karasu would be better off with the Hyouma Household.
If this was the household Karasu would be married into then his Fiance would definitely be Chigiri, he could treat him better. It would also be beneficial for both sides.
Karasu and Santorio would be protected, compared to marrying him. Ness has nothing to offer.
Steeling himself, his rosy eyes darkened as he met Karasu's eyes. "I don't love you anymore, Tabito Karasu."
It struck Karasu like lightning as he loosened his hold on Ness. His heart was shattered at how merciless Ness sounds like right now. Karasu had a broken expression, staring at the man he loves.
"You don't mean that don't you, Alexis..."
"I do. Why did you think I left you without saying goodbye? I didn't give you a reason at all. I didn't even try to return your calls and letters." Ness scoffed mockingly.
"I'd rather choose someone who will give me power and status. Our engagement may have been called off but the Crowned Prince of Veilchenblau still wants me by his side. I want him and he needs me. It's as simple as that."
Karasu balled his fist. Everything that's coming out of Ness mouth was so vile and cruel that he felt like he was being stabbed a thousand times. "You've changed..."
"No. I have always been like this Tabito."
"I see." Karasu laughed disheartenedly."I was the only one who loved and longed for you all these years."
Ness turned his head away, no longer wanting to see Karasu's painful expression.
"Alright I get it now. Thank you. Thank you for your honesty." Karasu bowed respectfully, "Alexis Ness."
With a heavy heart, Karasu left the Imperial Palace. Did he just waste his time chasing someone who didn't even want him? Karasu laughed like he was insane as he clutched his chest in pain, his mind going blank as he pushed away the servants that were trying to help him.
When Karasu reached outside, no one was there but him. He dropped both knees on the cold hard floor. He felt like he was being suffocated, here he thought being broken hearted couldn't kill you, he was wrong. Loving Ness will be the death of him. Maybe it was better that way after all. Nothing made sense to him anymore anyway. He'd gladly disappear from this world and be forgotten perhaps in his next life, he would forget the pain in this life that had brought him and will live a happy life. Different from this wretched one.
Karasu shut his eyes as he lay on the ground.

Isagi was finally done with his registration for the Flower Festival Hunt. Lucky for Isagi, he didn't manage to meet that asshole of a prince, Michael Kaiser, humming happily as he left the imperial palace. His eyes wandered around turning his head from side to side, his eyes landed on the man lying on the ground. In sheer panic, he rushed to that man's side and checked up on him, holding both of his arms tightly.
"Hey, Hey! Can you hear me, sir?" Isagi shook Karasu, concern growing on his face. The man is still breathing judging from the vibration on his chest.
"Alexis."
"Sir! Is that your name,Sir!" Isagi looked around. Where the hell are the servants in the palace? Isagi cursed, pulling out his phone to seek help. "Airi."
"Hello, young master honeybunch, sugarplum, pumpy umpy umpkin, sweetie pie Isagi!" Airi, Isagi's childhood friend and as well as his appointed governess answered with a jolly tone. Not realising his master is panicking yet.
"Airi, help please. I'm near the imperial palace entrance. Someone collapsed and I don't know who he is and I don't know what to do. We need to get him to the hospital or the manor, anything!" Isagi spoke in panic
"You got it. On my way. Geez. Stop panicking, Young Master. Remember what I taught you, how to save someone's life?"
"Skin care?" Isagi spoke whatever popped in his mind. Not minding it was a stupid answer.
"Not that. That's a different saving of someone's life, you can't slap a damn moisturiser on someone's face when they collapse. First Aid, remember. Check the vitals!"
Isagi pulled the phone away when Airi shouted, he didn't want his ears to bleed from that,"Airi, I'm damn scared and all I remember you yappering about skin care everyday! How do you expect me to remember first aid!?"
"Oh god. You're such a dumbass, Young Master just stay put we're close."
It didn't take long until Airi and two of Isagi's bodyguard arrived and as quickly as they could they performed first aid and immediately rushed Karasu to Isagi Estate. They urgently called their personal physician to check up on Karasu. Thankfully, Karasu just collapsed from extreme stress and there were no signs of life threatening disease so he should be fine with a long rest.
"Thank you for coming to the rescue, Airi." Isagi sighed in relief
"Of course, why wouldn't I? I'm getting paid for this job." Airi teased earning a nonchalant glare from Isagi, "Just kidding. Anyways, I'll take care of this hottie. Please go on and rest. you're going to visit Camron tomorrow right? I already prepared everything, arranged your transpo and contacted Rensuke so you should be good to go."
"You're the best!" Isagi hugged Airi tightly, in return Airi patted his back before breaking the hug, "Please don't scare our guest and start flirting with him. I don't want him to see our household in a bad light."
"What do you mean by bad light?" Airi made a hmpf! sound.
"You know what I mean!" Isagi chuckled, "Anyways, I'll get going. Thanks again Airi."
Isagi waved goodbye and left their guest to Airi's hand. He needed to sleep early for tomorrow but he feels like excitement wont leave him, he often looked forward to visiting Camron after all.
❀•°❀°•❀
Camron, Smallest town in Veilchenblau.
From the capital city it would take you a maximum of four hours to reach Camron.
Isagi and Kunigami finally reached their hometown. Home sweet home. The two thought in unison as they stepped foot on the ground. The servants helped the two unpacked their stuff as they headed to Isagi's old house after arranging their things. Isagi and Kunigami roamed around town. The two were met with familiar residents, welcoming them with their warm smiles and hugs. This town wasn't the richest nor the most advanced but it was a blissful and abundant place to live in when you grow older.
With a few chit chats from here there. Isagi and Kunigami dismissed themselves and visited their favourite bakery.
White Dove.
Entering the bakery, the air was sticky with the scent of rising yeast; somehow sour, somehow sweet. Though Isagi had tasted luxurious pastry before, this one felt different like grandmother's freshly baked cookies, every crunch and crumb were flavorful. It made him salivate a little.
"Welcome." A man with white hair greeted Isagi with a warm smile, "Oh, is that young Yoichi and ren-ren!"
Kunigami smiled, waving at the old baker.
"Mister Nagi. I see you're still running the place wonderfully." Isagi smiled as he approached the counter.
"That's right but now my son is helping me."
"Son?" Isagi was trying to remember if the old baker had a son, he was sure he didn't or perhaps he was hiding it. Who know.s
The Old man laughed boisterously, "I'm sure you lads haven't met him. Sei, come out."
The three waited, staring at the back of where the kitchen was.
"Sei." The old baker called again
No response.
"Seishirou Nagi!"
No response again.
Isagi and Kunigami exchange glances. It's either the boy was asleep or was extremely shy to greet them. The Old Baker frowned and sighed, he was ready to march inside and scold his son but Isagi pulled the hem of the Old Baker's sleeve.
"Wait, Mister Nagi. No need. If your son doesn't want to come out, he must be tired. We can always meet him another time. We're just here to buy some sweets." Isagi reassured the Old Baker with a smile.
"I'm sorry. My son is quite, handful. Lazy, to be exact."
"No worries, We'll look around okay?"
"Enjoy yourselves."
Taking a look around the place, Isagi and Kunigami couldn't hide their mouths foaming from the delicacies presented in front of them and just grabbed everything. The Old baker laughed as the two almost emptied the shelves full of pastry, they kind of do, purchasing more than they could ever eat. The Old baker thought that Isagi and Kunigami would give it to everyone in the town, that's how generous these two lads are. He thought.
❀•°❀°•❀
It's almost dawn. Kunigami parted ways with Isagi for a while since Kunigami is going to meet his eldest sister who resides at the town with her family.
Isagi walked around town alone, greeting and observing everyone. Nearing a small farm, he saw a white haired boy, tossing crumbs to feed the chicken while eating bread. In an attempt to make a new friend, Isagi approached the white haired stranger.
"Hello." Isagi greeted, making the boy turn to him.
"Hi." The white hair boy took a short glance then focused on the chicken again.
Isagi eyed the boy who seemed familiar with his white hair and droopy eyes, identical to the baker, bobbing his head a little he noticed the paper bag where the bread came from, that logo was from the White Dove bakery.
Then it hit him, this person must be Seishirou Nagi.
"Are you Sei? Seishirou Nagi."
"Yeah." Nagi responded flatly.
"Oh! Nice to meet you, I'm Isagi Yoichi." Isagi introduced himself happily. Noticing Nagi wasn't interested, he sat beside him, it didn't bother Nagi so they just sat in silence.
"...."
"...."
It was a little awkward as Isagi watched Nagi, waiting for the other boy to engage with him since his attempt to talk to him from earlier was futile then something that smelled nice caught Isagi's scent.
Flavour and fragrance ought to be distinctive, well-balanced. Sweet but not cloying and appealing enough to demand a second bite.
"That smelled so good."
Nagi glances at Isagi and hands him the paper bag, "You can have some."
Isagi smiled and took some. Mini donuts. He took a bite of it and holy shit, it tasted so creamy and flavorful, it wasn't too sweet nor too bland. It was a perfect mix, even the bread was chewy, the donut melted in his mouth like cotton candy.
Isagi's mouth being filled with heaven that mini donut was so good,"I didn't know you sell donuts like this in White Dove."
"We don't. I baked that." Nagi claimed, sliding his hand inside the paper bag and popped a donut in his mouth.
Isagi was surprised. This is too good not to be sold, "It's amazing! Can you bake more of this?"
Nagi sighed, he didn't really like to bake dozens of pastries. It was too much work and the only reason he baked the donuts today was because he was going to eat it. "Too lazy to. Only when I'm hungry."
"Then, get hungry more! This is just too damn good."
"You're a weirdo."
"Oh shit, it's getting late. It was nice meeting you Seishirou. Hope we can talk again!"
Isagi flailed his hand and left Nagi alone in the farm. He decided to visit White Dove and inform the Old Baker about Nagi. Isagi was sure Nagi's father would be happy that Isagi compliments his son and is an amazing baker like him and Isagi was right the Old Baker was happy, even boasting to Isagi he knew that his son was a genius baker but he was just lazy.
The Old Baker noticed Nagi's talent back when he was little when he could easily identify ingredients, sauces, delicacies and cuisine by the scent only and his taste bud was incredible, detecting what was lacking in a certain meal. With that new information, Isagi thought it would be helpful for future references.
❀•°❀°•❀
Isagi and Kunigami only planned to stay in Camron for one night since they're still busy with their daily duties back at the capital city.
The Next Day, Isagi and Kunigami were carrying dozens of sweets from White Dove. His parents had asked him to do so since Mikage's household requested it.It seemed like the Mikage household was having trouble looking for a Pastry Chef. Duke Mikage throws all their five star Pastry Chef from left to right. Although Isagi has no idea why.
As soon as they arrived in the capital city, they immediately visited the Mikage Estate.
Presenting White Dove's Pastry to the Mikage Household was intimidating, it was a lowly local pastry, how could a noble appreciate the taste when they have been fed by more luxurious delicacies. The taste might not be to their liking and Isagi was right, the Duke looked upset. By his side was the duchess and their only son Reo Mikage. Isagi was anxious, he didn't want any bad blood with one of the powerful households because of something as petty as the pastry he presented.
It's enough that Isagi upsets Michael Kaiser, making a rival of another powerful family will be their downfall.
Upon finishing every pastry, the Miikage looked unimpressed, then Isagi remembered the Old Baker slipped Nagi's home baked donuts. Thinking that Kunigami and him needed snacks for the long trip.
It was Isagi's last resort, last chance to impress the Mikage Household
Anxiously, placing one small donut after another made the Mikage's look at each other in confusion. They hesitantly took a bite of the donut.
Please love it, like I did.
The Duke's purples twinkle.
Smiles painted on the Duchess and Reo's as well.
"Who baked this?" The Duke asked enthusiastically.
Isagi proudly confirms, "The son of White Dove's Baker, Nagi Seishirou. My Lord."
Reo clapped his hand to gain everyone's attention,"Great. It's settled. Bring Nagi Seishirou here. We would love to meet this amazing pastry chef with our own eyes."
