"Just look at her saree and jewelry... she seems to be from a rich family," the raspy voice of Akhilesh Dada murmured.

"She's young, the officer will give us triple the price for her," Ritesh spoke back. "Let's just stick to our job."

The two of them were standing over Bondita, who was laying on the cement floor, her eyes closed, her hand resting over her belly.

"Still, what if her family offers more money for her?" Akhilesh Dada spoke.

"Do you think they'll care about this girl so much? Even if she's beautiful, once they find out she's been with two men, they will drop all ties with her."

Akhilesh Dada shook his head and said, "She's driving a car. What if she is married to a Britisher? What Indian man would allow his wife to learn to drive a car?"

"Very unlikely that she will wear sindoor, shakha pola, and alta if she was married to the British. She would be an outcast."

"Let's take her for now. We will figure out her family ties later," Akhilesh Dada said, "I wonder how she fainted even before our poison got to her."

Ritesh shrugged and reached over Bondita's body to carry her. As he held the young woman in his arms, he glanced over her features. She really was beautiful.

"She's married, so she can't be a virgin," Ritesh said, "How will the British Officer know if we..."

He was met with a smack on his head by Akhilesh Dada.

"Do you have no ethics? Playing with a girl who belongs to such a high ranking officer?" Akhilesh Dada snarled, "I don't want to hear any such words from you again Ritesh. Even if she's the most beautiful of the celestial fairies, Menaka, she doesn't belong to you. You better stick to your job, like you claimed."

Ritesh shook his head with distaste, unhappy that he had such a beautiful young woman in his arms, and this old man was watching him, unwilling to let him touch her.

He put Bondita in the backseat of his car, laying her down, and then said, "You drive the other car Dada. I'll take this one with me."

"No, you drive that car," Akhilesh Dada said, clearly not able to trust Ritesh, and glanced at the car with his eyes, as if signaling for Ritesh to go there immediately.

Ritesh irritably went to the other car, knowing his plan to have a fun time with this young lady just got foiled by this old geezer!

Akhilesh Dada was not a saint by any means, Ritesh knew it. But where his work was concerned, he was unwilling to compromise with the code of ethics. They were to just do what they would get paid to do.

Bondita rested unconscious in the backseat of the car, as she was driven, her hand unwilling to move from her belly. It was glued there, protectively, not even moving an inch.

When Anirudh and Kaka returned to the Roy Choudhary haveli, Anirudh was about to go to the study to lock himself in there, when Sampoorna greeted them by the doorway.

"Did you leave Bondita in Krishnanagar?" she questioned.

Anirudh just nodded, and was about to go past her when Sampoorna said, "Very well. Thakumaa should take good care of her... if she's away from you, it must be better for her too."

Anirudh shot his head up to glare at Sampoorna, and Trilochan also glared.

"Sampoorna Bahu, how can being away from her husband be good for Bahu?" Trilochan questioned, "Other than his loud voice having an effect on the unborn one inside the womb... I certainly hope they don't learn that from their dad!"

Trilochan finished with, "Them staying in separate rooms is already past the limit! And Bahu will be back tomorrow, when Anirudh straightens his head!"

Anirudh with irritation just said, "I need to do some research. The two of you, please leave me alone for some time."

"About delivery?" Trilochan questioned, "Relax Anirudh. Shubhra Behen had three deliveries and they were perfectly fine. Even Sampoorna Bahu had Sashwati with no problems. Didn't that friend of yours... Manika, also go through delivery? What makes you think our Bahu can't handle it?"

After his Maa had Batuk though, her health had deteriorated very badly. Kaka wasn't speaking about that

"I just need to do some research," Anirudh said, frowning.

"Sampoorna Bahu even had her delivery in a hospital, even though it was against our traditions," Kaka went on, "For Bahu, I'm planning to have her deliver according to our traditions... because this is a matter of our waaris! He has to be born in the best possible way."

Anirudh glared at Kaka, knowing there were so many things wrong with that statement.

Waaris? Who said that baby was going to be a boy? What if it was a girl like he wante -- Anirudh gulped before he could finish that thought.

"KAKA, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE TRADITIONS ARE, BUT BONDITA'S DELIVERY IS GOING TO BE IN THE SAFEST PLACE. I WILL DECIDE IT. NOT YOU," Anirudh yelled, causing Kaka to wince.

"The tradition of Aatar Ghar --" Kaka started, and he was cut off by Anirudh again.

"I don't care about traditions, nor do I want to hear of it!"

Sampoorna said, "Even I want Bondita to be fine. She should have her delivery in a safe place, but Anirudh, the safest thing would have been if this never happened."

Anirudh inhaled sharply. Her words should have pierced through him... but this time it didn't. The way that Bondita healed him... seemed to truly have worked. Because instead of getting hurt, he was getting extremely angry now.

Before he could yell at her though, Kaka piped in, "NEVER HAPPENED? SAMPOORNA BAHU, OF COURSE IT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. IT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED LONG AGO. IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT IT EVEN HAPPENED NOW. SHIV SHIV SHIV, INSTEAD OF YOU AND BINOY HAVING A CHILD IN HIS OLD AGE, THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH MY NEPHEW AND BAHU!"

Anirudh pressed his hand on his head, not sure who to yell at more -- Kaka or Sampoorna

That was when the phone rang, and he went to answer it.

"Hello?"

"Jamai Babu," Thakumaa's panicked voice said. "Has Bondita reached home safely?"

"Bondita, safely, what?" Anirudh questioned, confused, "She's there, right?"

"No Jamai Babu. She left here to go to Tulsipur. Many hours ago. She wasn't too far behind you," Thakumaa informed. "She was afraid to leave you alone. She wanted to be there for you... so... she took Chandrachur Jamai Babu's car without him knowing, and she drove there."

Anirudh's eyes widened, and he dropped the phone, his heart beating rapidly with shock and tension.

Bondita did... what?

Suddenly anger filled his system. Intense anger. Who told her to do such a reckless thing? She knew she wasn't allowed to drive like this, that too in this state, alone?

He picked up the phone again and hissed into the phone, "Thakumaa how could you let her go?"

"I didn't know! We would have never let her go!"

"How did she get Chandrachur's car keys?"

"She... seemed to have made him a fool and got them," Thakumaa said, sounding very frustrated over the situation herself.

Anirudh pressed his hand to his head when he heard this. Of course, Bondita must have manipulated Chandrachur in some way. She could even easily manipulate him many times with her sweetness, so who was Chandrachur?

Thakumaa continued, "But she can drive, even in pregnancy it won't be a risk, and I'm sure she knows the way to Tulsipur. She has a sharp memory. If she's not there yet, she should be there at any moment."

"LET HER COME," Anirudh bellowed, his blood pressure rising. "NO MATTER HOW SHE TRIES TO GET OUT OF IT, I WON'T SPARE HER TODAY."

Kaka watched with wide eyes, as Sampoorna shivered, worried for her sister's safety once again.

"Anirudh it's all your fault!" Kaka said finally, "Who was the one who taught her to drive? This is why you shouldn't have given her so much freedom! See how she took advantage of it?"

Anirudh hung up the phone and turned to glare at his Kaka.

"JUST BECAUSE I GAVE HER FREEDOM, DOESN'T MEAN THAT SHE CAN MISUSE IT LIKE THIS," Anirudh screamed. "SHE VERY WELL KNOWS THAT SHE ISN'T ALLOWED TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCES. AND IT'S NIGHT TIME NOW. WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS? ON TOP OF THAT, SHE STOLE CHANDRACHUR'S CAR? LET HER COME. JUST LET HER COME."

"Anirudh she's pregnant!" Sampoorna just said, "How can you scream like this at your pregnant wife?"

Anirudh took a deep breath and glared at Sampoorna. "I won't be screaming at my pregnant wife. Don't worry Sampoorna Maa." With gritted teeth, he continued, "And from now on, stay - out - of - my - matters - with - Bondita. As her Shikshak, I have every right to be disappointed in her. How can she be so reckless?" With frustration, he hissed, "Just let her come..."

He watched the door with gritted teeth, frightening both Trilochan and Sampoorna, "I'm waiting Bondita. I'm waiting."

Anirudh was pacing back and forth in front of the doorway, his anger waiting to be unleashed. He was ready to scold her badly for this act. She wouldn't get to drive for at least a month as punishment! Yes! Or... he would give her the silent treatment. Cold shoulder. Something, so she learned her lesson that this was not okay

But for now, he was waiting... waiting for his wife.

Ten minutes passed. Twenty. Thirty. An hour.

No sign of Bondita.

Suddenly, his anger started to fade like the waning moon, and fear and tension grew instead.

Trilochan and Sampoorna were also waiting anxiously.

"Where is she?" Anirudh questioned. "Why isn't she here yet?"

Kaka rushed to the phone to call Kalindi, and he found out that she hadn't returned there either.

"She should have been here by now," Kaka confirmed. "Anirudh... something didn't happen to Bahu right?"

Anirudh felt sweat emerge between his brows.

"No... n - nothing can..." he said fearfully. "She... she has to know the way. She is very sharp. She knew the way to the beach when I was teaching her, and she had only been there once. It had so many turns too, and was two hours away. The path from Krishnanagar only has a few turns. It's mostly a straight path. Bondita... should know."

Anirudh called Kalindi again.

"Has Bondita arrived?" Thakumaa asked as soon as she received his call.

"Does Chandrachur's car have petrol?" Anirudh questioned, not answering her.

After a muffled exchange between her and Chandrachur, Thakumaa said, "Yes, in the trunk he had an extra cannister of petrol."

"Bondita would have filled the tank with it," Anirudh said, "She knows what to do in these cases. I've prepared her for emergencies... then? Where is she?"

"It's been too long. I'll call for help from a few people in the village and ask them to drive the route to look for her," Thakumaa said.

"I'll also go," Anirudh said with urgency, his heart filled with tension and worry.

"Maybe she got tired, and she pulled over and is resting," Thakumaa told him, trying to reassure him. "It will be alright Jamai Babu. Bondita, even though she didn't do a smart thing, is intelligent. She will find her way."

"She is intelligent... but... she would also know that I'd worry. She wouldn't sleep on the side of the road no matter how exhausted she was, if she knew I was worrying about her. She would come straight here..." Anirudh mumbled, his heart sinking. "T - Thakumaa?"

"Yes Jamai Babu?"

"N - nothing will happen to m - my Bondita right?" he asked, his voice cracking. "S - she will be okay, right?"

"Of course she will Jamai Babu. Nothing will happen to your Bondita. Nothing at all."

Tears slid down his cheeks, and he turned to look at a worried looking Kaka and Sampoorna.

"If... anything happens to her... I'll... die. I - I won't be able to live K - Kaka... I w - won't..."

Precap

Bondita wakes up in a dark shack. It is small and not very hygienic.

"I'm Bondita Roy Choudhary," she tells the two men boldly, yet cleverly. "Anything you want, my family can give you. So don't waste your time, and just let me go."

"Roy Choudhary you say?" the older man says, looking at her, and trying to process the opportunity. "We will discuss the price for you and then return."

--

"IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY BONDITA, NOBODY WILL SPARED! RIVERS OF BLOOD WILL FLOW THROUGH THE STREETS OF TULSIPUR, DROWNING ALL THOSE WHO REMAIN STANDING!" there was high intensity in Anirudh's deep voice, as it echoed across the walls of the haveli, while he stood in front of Durga Maa, a lit diya burning against the palm of his hand, surely leaving a red mark.
