Trilochan turned to look at Somnath, as he delivered an unexpected news -- well not news, rather statement to him.
"Shiv Shiv Shiv," Kaka just said, shaking his head slowly, as he looked at his nephew. "You have been locked up in your room for years, claiming that you are studying -- and I saw what you studied, those ashleel, dishonorable images, so your mind only works like this!"
Those images of the female genitalia at the dining table was something that Trilochan could never forget in his life!
Somnath looked at Kaka with a sigh and said, "But Kaka --"
"Quiet Somnath," Trilochan warned, raising his cane slightly, and Som cringed, wondering whether Kaka was going to smack him with it. "If you utter another disgraceful word about my Bahu, then there will be nobody worse than me!"
Somnath didn't understand what was so disgraceful about what he said. After all, didn't his Kaka want Anirudh Dada and his Boudi to have babies?
"Studying all the time in a locked room, looking at disgusting images, and then claiming he is a doctor and what does he diagnose? Bahu's imaginary pregnancy! Shiv Shiv Shiv. Useless, fraudulent doctor!"
Somnath felt quite offended that after all these years of hard work and studying, his Kaka could still call him a useless doctor, as if his hard work amounted to nothing! He had barely even gotten his degree! Even if he was wrong, shouldn't a harmless wrong diagnosis be allowed? Why was Kaka getting so worked up?
Somnath's eyebrows furrowed slightly and he asked, "Kaka! What did I say wrong?"
"My Bahu is chaste! She is clean, and completely pure! She would never become pregnant by other men! Disgusting Somnath. Only your dirty mind can accuse her!" Kaka said dramatically and pointed his cane at Somnath in an accusing way.
"Other men?" Somnath asked, "When did I accuse her of getting pregnant by other men?"
Kaka huffed and shook his head, "Then you're a fool Somnath! For not seeing what's right under your nose!"
Somnath was confused.
How was he a fool?
"Bahu, pregnant? Impossible. Shiv Shiv Shiv, what a waste of his time learning to be a doctor. He hasn't learned a thing!" Kaka said dramatically, and then stormed away, stomping his cane.
Somnath watched Kaka go, his mouth falling open.
Was he the one not seeing what went on right under his nose, or was Kaka?
As far as Somnath was concerned, his Dada and Boudi had traumatized him once with their public display of affection, and it was quite obvious that the consequences of such a thing was pregnancy!
"I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier, the way that Dada and Boudi behave like lustful freaks!" Somnath huffed, as he walked away too.
As he headed back into his room, he added on, "Plus, Kaka is behaving very odd. I think once I get my degree, I should do a check up on him first!"
--
Bondita didn't understand what was going on with her body. She was in a state where she was throwing up over smells that she was used to, and not just once, but many times, over and over again.
It had been a couple more days since that incident with the luchias, and she still hadn't received her period. Now she was getting nervous. By now, it definitely should have come.
Every month, when her periods arrived, her Pati Babu would practically have a celebration because it meant that she wasn't pregnant. However, he wasn't here this time, and over the last year, they had become accustomed to her cycles, so it wasn't something that was on their mind all the time anymore as well.
So, Anirudh hadn't asked her if they arrived, and Bondita also hadn't thought much of it until this point.
When she was twelve, Vikram had announced at school that his mother was pregnant. She had gone to her Pati Babu and asked him, where babies came from. Vikram had tried to ask his parents, but had gotten slapped, and she was very curious about why this topic was not allowed!
Upon asking him, her Pati Babu had drawn her the female reproductive system and explained in details about how periods worked, and in what way they prevented pregnancy.
He had specifically told her:
"Every month, this lining gets shed, and this is why you get your menstrual period Bondita. Sometimes, this lining does not get shed... and when that happens, pregnancy occurs -- this is what happened with Vikram's mom. This egg grows into a baby."
Bondita had been lying in bed that night, meditating upon those words that he told her years ago.
Had she not received her period, because the lining didn't get shed inside of her? Hence, it would mean that the egg which didn't get released from her body, would turn into a baby?
"But how is it possible? I take my pills properly. And those pills are very safe," Bondita wondered. "It can't be... there must be another explanation."
Still, her Guru had once uttered words to her, and it took her years before those words finally unraveled into a practical experience for Bondita to understand.
And those words were now beginning to haunt her in a way that she wasn't able to get them out of her mind.
Bondita was still confident that this couldn't be pregnancy. However it was true that there was something wrong, considering all the nausea. So she decided that she would speak to Thakumaa.
The next morning, Bondita called Thakumaa.
"Thakumaa, I haven't received my period," she explained, "And I feel like vomiting all the time. Did you change the formula of the pills? Maybe I'm having side effects."
There was an immediate silence once Bondita said this.
"Bondita... can you come to Krishnanagar?" Thakumaa just asked.
"Now?" Bondita asked nervously.
"Yes, now," Thakumaa said.
"Okay, I'll ask Kakasasurji," Bondita said with a nod, "I don't think he'll have a problem. But I have school tomorrow Thakumaa, and --"
"Bondita, don't tell anyone. Just come. Before anyone gets an idea, I need to see you," Thakumaa urged.
"What's the matter Thakumaa, is everything okay?" Bondita asked, feeling a pit in her stomach now.
No... it couldn't be what she was thinking last night, right?
"Come to Krishnanagar Bondita," Thakumaa just said, and then hung up the phone.
Bondita nervously looked at the receiver, a fearful feeling blooming in her heart.
No way.
It was not possible.
She took a deep breath and smacked her forehead lightly saying, "Ohho Bondita. It seems like you're overthinking. Thakumaa must just be worried about the vomiting, and wants to check. That's all. And she doesn't want Kakasasurji or anyone to worry too. I'm sure everything is okay. She might just change the formula of the pills!"
Bondita went upstairs and got her belongings to go to Thakumaa's, wondering how she would go.
The driver would surely tell Kakasasurji, and then knowing him, he may demand to come along! Plus, it would look really odd that she would be going to Krishnanagar when she had school the next day.
"No... I will have to drive..." Bondita decided.
Over the last few months, her Pati Babu had slowly shown her how to drive.
The first time, she nearly crashed into a tree, but he had grabbed the steering wheel in time to keep the car on the road.
The second time, she forgot what the brake was and what the accelerator was! So when she pressed on the brake, she was confused about why the car wasn't moving!
The third time, she got better, and slowly started to move in straight lines.
The fourth time, she got the turns correctly, and they weren't such big and wide turns anymore.
The fifth time, her and her Pati Babu had found a remote road and made love in the backseat of the car.
The sixth time, she was driving in such a stellar way, that she drove her Pati Babu all the way to a nearby beach! He was very proud of her!
Ever since that time, she didn't get much of a chance to drive the car, and her Pati Babu never allowed her to drive long distances. Krishnanagar was far away -- it would take a couple of hours, and Bondita didn't even know the way.
How would she figure this out?
--
Batuk was in his room with Surabhi.
Even though Kaka was at home today, somehow Batuk had managed to sneak Surabhi into his room, and locked it from inside.
Nobody knew that she was here! Well, the only one he needed protection from was Kaka. To the rest of them, he could just say that she came over nonchalantly.
Since there was no school today, Surabhi was in a half-sleeved light blue frock, which fell up to her knees, with a lacey white collar.
She was lying on Batuk's bed, giggling as he read her a romance novel that he had in his room.
"And then Violet grabbed the back of Andrew's neck and pulled him close, smashing her lips onto his hungrily," Batuk read, "And Andrew pulled her closer by the waist, sinking his manhood into the depths of her soft stomach."
Surabhi blushed as she heard Batuk read this to her.
In the last five months, they had never gone past kissing, except for a little bit of touching over clothes.
"Enough!" Surabhi said, her face red. "This is what you like to read?"
"Of course, it's my favourite! And Boudi's too," Batuk tattle-taled.
Surabhi shook her head and said with a pout, "But you have a girlfriend now!"
"Then shall we experience it in real?" Batuk teased, putting the book down and lying down on the bed beside her.
Surabhi smiled and she said, "Maybe, it depends on my mood! But I guess you could start with some kisses for now!"
Batuk laughed and he closed the gap between their mouths, kissing her softly, his hands cupping her cheeks.
Just as the kiss deepened, he heard a knock on the door.
Breaking the kiss, Batuk groaned.
"WHAT?" he called out.
"Batuk, open the door!" his Boudi's voice said.
"Boudi go away I'm busy!" Batuk yelled, furrowing his brows.
Surabhi blushed underneath and said, "It's just Bondita. You can open the door."
"I don't want to," he groaned. "She gets to have all the fun with Dada, but she wants to interrupt my private moments?"
Surabhi questioned, "Have you not interrupted her and Mr. ARC's private moments?"
Batuk's face turned red, and he said, "Uh... well..."
"BATUK!" Bondita screamed, banging on the door with her hands, "Open it now!"
"Fine!" Batuk groaned, and got off the bed.
He opened the door and glared at her. "What?"
Bondita pushed past him, into the room and locked the door behind her, not expecting to see Surabhi there.
"Surabhi?" Bondita gasped, and looked at Batuk with a raised eyebrow.
"Just like you sneak around with your Boyfriend Babu, even though he's your husband, I sneak around with my girlfriend! What's the problem?" Batuk demanded.
Bondita blushed as she recalled that Batuk had walked in on her calling her Pati Babu Boyfriend Babu, over the phone, and had heard other inappropriate things.
"Sorry Surabhi, I have to take Batuk with me somewhere," Bondita apologized, "It's urgent."
Surabhi looked at Bondita with concern and asked, "Is everything okay?"
"Why?" Batuk just whined, "What's so urgent?"
"I need to go to Krishnanagar," Bondita said, and Batuk looked at her with a frown.
"What? Why all of a sudden?" he asked.
"I haven't been feeling well lately, and Thakumaa asked me to come," Bondita said.
"Why Thakumaa? That lady's crazy!" Batuk said with a groan. "Ask Som Dada! Or go to a doctor here!"
"Because there are some medications that I'm taking from Thakumaa, Batuk. She can help me the best," Bondita said with a sigh. "And you know how crazy everyone is about male doctors treating females. It would be hard to find a doctor so quickly who is willing -- only your Dada has these connections, not me."
"Som Dada is family," Batuk huffed.
"It's not about Somnath Dada! There's a reason I need to go to Thakumaa's," Bondita just said.
"Fine," Batuk asked, and then his voice faltered for a second, and he sounded genuinely concerned, "But what happened? Are you okay?"
Bondita smiled softly, feeling his concern, and she said, "Yes, I think I'm just having some side effects with the medications. She wants to do a check up. I'm even taking the medication back to her so that she can double check it."
"Batuk, you should go with Bondita, and make sure she's safe," Surabhi just said reassuringly, "Krishnanagar is far away. If you two go now, it'll be late by the time you come back. And Bondita, I hope that you get better medications with less side effects."
"Thanks Surabhi! I'm sure it'll be okay," Bondita said with a smile, and then turned to Batuk, "Kakasasurji might get upset, but I'm thinking of calling him once I'm there. Maybe Thakumaa can speak to him."
"Why not just tell him?" Batuk asked.
"Because he'll want to come too!" Bondita said, "And Thakumaa said to come alone."
"Then why me?" Batuk asked, frowning.
"Because I need your help with directions! Manika Didi went to meet Pratul, and I don't want to disturb Vikram. You know how his family is," Bondita said.
"We can just pick him up on the way and make it a road trip. Surabhi, do you want to come too?" Batuk asked.
"Me? No! I have to be home on time tonight," Surabhi said, "I promised my Dad that I would spend time with him."
"Wow, you spend time with your dad?" Batuk questioned, raising his eyebrows, "My Baba doesn't make an appointment to spend time with us!"
"Well it's not an appointment! Just a request! He wants to spend family time with me!" Surabhi said. "But my mom doesn't seem to be invited... that's the sad part."
"What do you mean she's not invited? Isn't she in the same house?" Batuk questioned.
"Yes, but they hardly talk to each other," Surabhi said with a shrug.
"Oh..." Batuk just said, sounding slightly sad for her.
"Batuk, I'll call Thakumaa once more and ask if she can find out directions. I'll write them down, and you read them to me while I drive," Bondita decided.
"What? You're driving?" Batuk asked with a pout, "I learned from my Big D too!"
Bondita's face flushed as Batuk called him Big D. She was reminded again of the phone call that Batuk had walked into.
"Not as much as me!" Bondita argued.
"That's probably because you were busy doing other things in the car, so it took longer!" Batuk pointed out.
"Batuk, let's go!" Bondita just said, a slight blush on her cheeks.
All the while, Surabhi was wondering why Batuk suddenly referred to his Dada as Big D!
"Fine, you go, I'll say bye to my girlfriend then come!" Batuk said.
Bondita nodded, and then went to call Thakumaa again to inquire about the directions.
--
Batuk managed to sneak Surabhi out of the house, before he also snuck out with Bondita, taking one of the car keys with them.
Bondita got into the green vintage car that they owned.
She managed to pull out of the street fast, breathing a sigh of relief. They decided to go straight to the haveli without involving Vikram in their troubles.
"Kaka will be so mad," Batuk groaned.
Bondita replied, "I will trust Thakumaa to handle him."
"That crazy lady will handle Kaka?" Batuk questioned.
Bondita argued, "She's not!"
"She pointed a gun at everyone!" Batuk huffed. "She's absolutely mad! Bonkers! Insane! Crazy!"
It was like he was enjoying listing all the synonyms he knew for crazy!
"Well, she had her own baggage that she was dealing with. You just focus on reading the directions Batuk," Bondita ordered, and Batuk glanced at the papers, reading the directions that his Boudi had written.
Truth be told, the idea of going to Thakumaa's haveli was making him feel nervous, and that was the reason that he was acting up a little bit.
He had too many memories of his own related to that place.
--
Somehow, they managed to make it to the haveli while the sun was still high in the sky.
As soon as they walked in, Thakumaa barely gave a second look to Batuk, before going to Bondita and saying, "Come."
Rimjhim Kaki was there, and she eyed Batuk, a look of concern appearing on her features.
Batuk was just awkwardly standing there.
"You can sit down on the sofa," Bondita offered, as Thakumaa held her arm and urgently dragged her away.
Batuk just nodded awkwardly, and went to sit down on the living room sofa, where he was feeling extremely nervous.
This was Tupur's house.
And 'lo and behold, as soon as he thought about her, she walked in with Chandrachur.
--
On the other hand, Thakumaa ordered Bondita to lie down on a bed in the room where she did all of her work.
She was feeling Bondita's wrist and checking her pulse.
"When did you get your last period?" Thakumaa asked.
"Uh... six weeks ago... maybe seven?" Bondita said, after some thought.
"And what are all the symptoms you have had? And from when have you had them?" Thakumaa asked. "Think and list them all for me."
Bondita listed everything that she could recall -- from the light spotting of blood on her underwear a few weeks ago, to the nausea, her lack of appetite, her breasts tenderness, and exhaustion.
"But Thakumaa, it must be a side of effect of the pills, right? You changed them didn't you?" Bondita asked after Thakumaa finished the checkup. "If you just give me back the old ones you used to have, it should be fixed!"
Thakumaa shook her head slowly, and she managed to say, "I wish you were right Bondita... I didn't want it to happen in this way."
Bondita looked at Thakumaa with a concerned expression on her face.
"What are you saying Thakumaa?" she asked.
"After you called today... I spoke to Tapur... she had selected the package of pills on the right, and had given them to you," Thakumaa confessed.
The right package of pills had belonged to Tupur, and they were fertility medicines.
"S - so?" Bondita asked, now getting nervous.
Thakumaa took a deep breath and said, "Bondita... the truth is that... you..."
Bondita's eyes widened and tears entered her eyes immediately before Thakumaa could even finish her sentence.
"No!" Bondita said, shaking her head. "No Thakumaa! Check again!"
Thakumaa pressed her lips together in pain.
"I don't know how to tell you..."
"NO THAKUMAA!" Bondita screamed, shaking her head, tears making their way rapidly into her eyes, "NO! IT CAN'T BE! THERE'S DEFINITELY SOME OTHER PROBLEM!"
The only time that Thakumaa had seen Bondita get this emotional, was when it had been about her Pati Babu.
Today, she was getting so afraid, so dejected at the possibility that she was pregnant, and Thakumaa didn't know how to react.
When a mother was rejecting her own pregnancy so violently before it was even confirmed, how could the baby possibly gain the will to live in such an environment?
"Listen to me Bondita," Thakumaa said, taking a deep breath. She held her granddaughter's shoulders gently, as she shook violently against her hands. "I know it's a lot to take in, but what is the truth is the truth. What you are thinking... it is true."
Bondita shook even more violently, and Thakumaa could feel the tremors against her hands.
"No it's not possible," Bondita said, like she was in a state of shock, and then she turned to Thakumaa, tears rapidly flowing down her cheeks, faster than she could remember them ever flowing.
Bondita gripped Thakumaa's saree around her thighs tightly from her bed, leaning against it and pressing her cheeks against it, desperately begging her to make this news false.
"Thakumaa, please don't let it be true," Bondita pleaded, gripping her Thakumaa's saree, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I've been taking all the pills properly! I can't be pregnant. Pati Babu will die! This wasn't supposed to happen before I became a barrister... he will be broken! Please tell me it's a lie! Please Thakumaa! Please!"
Thakumaa felt pain in her heart, as she recalled Tapur's mistake.
"It's true Bondita," Thakumaa finally said, looking sad to see Bondita in this condition. "You are pregnant. You are going to be a mother."
Bondita's sobs filled the room, and she screamed, "No! No! No!"
Thakumaa just hugged Bondita tightly, as Bondita sobbed into her saree.
"You must listen to me Bondita. You cannot be this sad. It's not good for your or the child's health --"
But Bondita's sobs got heavier, unable to process a word that Thakumaa was saying.
The pain that was in Bondita's heart, was just the beginning.
The story had just begun.
--
I admit, I teared up writing this chapter.
Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed it.
Did you enjoy the first scene with Somnath/Kaka?
Bondita meditating upon her Pati Babu's words?
The scene with Surabhi/Batuk?
The memories of Bondita's driving lessons?
What will happen to Batuk when he sees Tupur and CC?
And finally, what do you think about the last scene between Bondita and Thakumaa?
Would you like more in this spree party? Then comment, and vote! The votes since chapter 269 are lagging behind so much that I'm considering just waiting for everyone to catch up. Please go and vote on all the parts if you haven't already.
If you show your interest through the comments, then I can try to continue the party... but it's dependent on you all! I can still post maybe another 4-5 parts this weekend, but this depends on your votes and comments! ❤️
