1| First day
Kim
A/N: Please note that Kim is not the protagonist but some chapters are in her point of view. Leanne is the main character.
"This is Leanne Kamaria," the Human Resource Manager of Deloran insurance company introduces her to me. Leanne is a medium height woman wearing a body tight white dress that shows her beautiful curves. Her black hair is shoulder length and she is wearing dark red lipstick. Her facial features are symmetrical and perfect. She has the poise of a successful young woman and I believe she's not older than twenty-five. "Leanne, this is Kim, your new assistant."
Leanne smiles, having no idea of the hell I'm about to unleash upon her life. She offers her well manicured hand. "It's lovely to meet you, Kim."
I shake her hand and I can't believe how soft it is. It's like she's never done any hard work. I spent years slaving at my father's commercial farms when I was younger and even though my hands have softened over the years, I still feel insecure about them. My father was a farmer who made us do his work instead of hiring labourers. And then he drank away half of the proceeds from the harvest with his lazy friends.
Life has been unfair to me and though I know nothing about Leanne, she's going to pay for my suffering. A lot of people have. Leanne is going to be added to the list of my unfortunate victims and poor thing doesn't even have an idea of what she'll go through. Having me as an assistant is going to cause her so many problems and I'll make sure she always regrets it.
"Nice to meet you, too." I smile. "I'm so happy I got this job and I think you're a great person."
"Thank you," she says. "Come with me to my office."
I can tell she's a good person and that's good news to me because she will be an easy target. Good people always believe others are good too. I know that she won't suspect anything until it's too late. I feel like grinning but I retain my composure and follow Leanne into her office.
It's very neat and everything is in order. I wonder why she needs an assistant. There is a table with drawers and two chairs, one in front and the other behind it. There are some folders, papers, pens and other office stationary on top. There's also a framed photograph of Leanne at her graduation with two people I believe are her parents. There's another photo of her in a red t-shirt and shorts of the same colour, carrying a football. Behind her is another girl who has a very wide smile wearing the same kind of cloth. I want to ask if she plays soccer but I decide to reserve that for another day.
Leanne sits on one chair. "Have a seat." She tells me, indicating the chair in front of the table. I sit and look around.
This office is amazing and I love it already. I want it for myself and i know nothing is going to stop me. I'm going to do everything possible to get Leanne kicked out or demoted so I can take her position. I know she thinks she's better than me, which is probably true. But, that's okay. Once I'm done with her, she will not be able to recognize herself.
"This is your first day so I'm not going to give you a lot of work," she says and I turn to look at her. "I want you to get to know the place and people more. The-"
She stops when we hear a knock on the door. "Come in."
I almost gasp when I see the man who walks in. He's the most handsome creature I have had the honour of meeting. His neatly combed black hair is about an inch long. His lips are so beautiful I feel like grabbing him so he can kiss me. He is dark and very tall with legs that seem to go on forever, the perfect man to star in a billionaire romance movie. He is the full package and now I want to have him even more than Leanne's job. He is wearing a suit that looks like it was made for him, and only him. I'm sure he's an important person in the company.
"Morning Marcus," Leanne says, her eyes lighting up. She loves him. Even better. I'm going to have so much fun taking everything away from her. "Meet my assistant, Kim."
"Hey Kim," he says, shaking my hand with a smile and an intense look. He looks interested, of course. I know I'm very beautiful. "Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, Marcus."
"Kamili," he corrects me. Typical arrogant rich man. I like that. Let's see what he'll say when we end up in bed together.
He puts some papers on the table. "Could you please sign these for me? You don't have to read them."
"What, you want to steal from me now?" Leanne jokes.
"Like you have any money in your tiny bank account? Are you done paying off student loans?"
Leanne laughs, making me angry. How is that even funny? I believe both of them didn't have to get any loans and so they think it's okay to laugh about it. I haven't started paying mine and I despise them for this. They're going to pay for laughing about a serious matter.
Leanne signs while he asks her about someone called Anna.
"By the way, have you finished your presentation for Friday?"
"I haven't started yet," she says. "I had a lot of work to do. Now, that Kim's here, I'll be able to finish in time."
"You complain about work a lot," he says, collecting the signed documents. "I wonder why they haven't fired you yet."
"Because I'm the most competent employee in this company," she grins. "Trust me, when I manage to convince the CEO that we need to have the employee of the month award, I'll be the first to win."
"I don't care about a mere employee of the month award," he says, straightening up. I'm using this chance to check him out but I hate their friendly banter. I hate Leanne. "The employee of the year award will always be mine and that's all I care about. I've won it since I started working here so I can win as many employee of the month awards if I want. Don't ask for something you'll never win."
"Go away," she tells him.
He laughs and strides out of the room.
"He's really cute," I say, just to see how she will react.
She smiles like it's nothing. "Yeah, I guess."
For the first time since I met her, I begin to think she's not as easy as she seems but that will not deter my ambition by all means.
I want to take my rightful place in this world and I know it's not at the feet of rich people.
