~Charlie's POV~

Ryder. That name gave me chills. Eden and I continue to walk to our lockers but everything suddenly felt colder. 

I shiver, something didn't feel right. When we get to our lockers, I drop my bag and pull on my oversized sweater. I'm freezing. Eden looks over at me with a funny look. 

"So Charlie" she questions. 

"What do you have on today?". 

"Ummm well I have homeroom with you first" I start but I'm quickly interrupted by Eden. 

"Ryder's in our homeroom" she giggles. "But I meant subjects dummy and we all know homeroom isn't a subject". Right, I think to myself. 

"Okay, well, I have English then Visual Art then morning tea" I pause, looking over at Eden before continuing. "Then I have Stat Maths, then Health, then lunch and then I have study fifth period" I finish. 

I look over at her again and notice she is smiling. 

"What?" I ask. 

"Nothing" she replies. I grab my stuff for English and Art out of my locker and put them in my bag before pulling my bag onto my shoulders. Eden links arms with me and we walk to our favourite spot in the school. The big oak tree. 

We sit under the tree and chat for a bit. We talk about how Iris had become really clingy ever since Adette stopped coming to school and how she was so excited to see her again and about how I keep having the same haunting dream over and over again. 

It was nice, talking to Eden. I had missed her so much. I didn't get to see her much during the 2 weeks I was out of school. The bell for homeroom rings and we get up, link arms and walk to class. 

"You ready to meet the new bad boy?" Eden whispers as we walk towards the door of our class. 

"I don't think I have much choice" I whisper back. We walk into homeroom and I instantly spot him. He was tall, very tall. I am 5'7" but he looks over 6 foot so I'd have to say I'm a good 5 or more inches shorter than him. 

He is dressed in all black and is leaning on the desk with his head in his hands. Eden and I walk over to our usual seats which happened to be at the desk next to his and we sit down, listening to the announcements over the intercom.

When they are finished, our home room teacher turns off the intercom and welcomes me back to the class. I give a shy wave and notice no one is talking but they are all looking at me. I feel uncomfortable because I know why they are staring at me. 

But I'm not going to let that bring me down. Today is going to be a good day. Eden looks over at me and squeezes my hand. She then looks at Ryder. 

"Good morning Ryder" Eden says cheerfully. Ryder takes his head out of his hands and turns to face her. 

"Good morning Eden" he says warmly back. 

"Ryder, I would like to meet my best friend Charlie" she says as she pushes her chair back away from the desk so I can get a good look at him. 

"Charlie, Ryder. Ryder, Charlie" she chirps. I look straight into his eyes. Those big chocolate brown eyes. The air turns ice cold and everything in my body freezes. I can feel myself turning pale. 

Something isn't right about him. I feel like I've seen him somewhere. 

"H-h-hi" I manage to stutter. 

"Hi" he smirks. "It's nice to finally meet you". I manage to smile at him but it is painfully difficult because everything seems to be frozen. I am cold to the bone. He drops his gaze and turns back to his desk and goes on his phone. 

I can breathe again. Trying not to pant, I take slow deep breaths to try and calm myself down. Eden scoots her chair back in. 

"Way to play it cool you goose" she laughs at me. 

"Yeah yeah" I mutter back before putting my head in my hands. 

"Today is going to be harder than I thought" I mutter to myself.

~Ryder's POV~

The air starts to heat up. She is close. I need to chill out I think to myself. The air continues to heat up to the point where I am breaking out in a light sweat. 

She is right next to me. Well, at the next desk over, sitting next to Eden. Her voice is absolutely angelic, which is understandable as she is Nephilim but her being my mate makes it even more beautiful. 

"Good morning Ryder" I hear Eden say cheerfully. Alright Ryder, pull yourself together. I take my head out of my hands and sit up to face Eden. 

"Good morning Eden" I reply in the warmest tone I can muster. I can't see Charlie as she is behind Eden but I can sense her. Eden smiles at me before scooting her chair back. 

"Ryder, I would like you to meet my best friend Charlie" she chirps. 

"Charlie, Ryder. Ryder, Charlie". I lock eyes with Charlie. I smile as I stare into the blue ocean of her eyes. 

"H-h-hi" she stutters. Her voice, god it turns me on. 

"Hi" I smirk back. "It's so nice to finally meet you". She smiles at me but it looks forced. 

Maybe she feels it too? 

I drop my gaze and turn to my phone. This can't wait till I see Cole later, I have to tell him now. I can hear Charlie taking heavy breaths and I listen to their conversation. 

"Way to play it cool you goose" I hear Eden say. 

"Yeah yeah" Charlie mutters. She then says something else but I can't quite catch it. I open my messages on my phone and find Cole's contact. '

Yo Cole. As if my luck couldn't get any worse, guess what happened. The girl, her name is Charlie. But I can't kill her, not anymore...' 

I send the text and pray that he replies soon. While I wait I look over at the girls. Eden is on her phone leaning back in her chair while Charlie has her head in her hands. I study Charlie. 

She is absolutely beautiful. Her body, her face, her personality. Then a wave of guilt hits me. She looks exactly like her father apart from the hair and skin colour. But the eyes. Those same ocean blue eyes. 

It is my fault. I feel my phone vibrate and I look down at the screen. '

Dude! Wtf?! I thought you wanted your feelings back?! Why can't you kill her?!' 

Shit, he sounds kind of pissed, I wonder why. '

She's my mate' I text back guiltily. I sigh and put my head back in my hands. 

First, I lose my wings and now the person who I need to kill is my mate. Just my luck I mutter to myself. My phone vibrates again and I pick my head up to look at it. 

'Oh shit. I'm sorry man, we'll figure something out! I gotta go, see you tonight'. 

Great, thanks Cole. Now what am I supposed to do. 

As if my prayers were answered, the bell for first-period rings and everyone files out of class. I get up and keep to the back so I can watch Charlie leave. I can't help but stare at her. 

She's beautiful and she's mine, well soon she'll be mine. I hope. I notice that the girls have linked arms again and I laugh. 

Obviously too loud because they hear me and stop. Oh shit. I catch up with them and we continue to walk silently together. 

"What do you have first Ryder?" Eden giggles. 

"Mechanics class" I reply. 

"Oooooo so manly" she laughs. "I guess we'll see you later then". 

"Maybe" I reply with a smile. 

"Bye Ryder" she says sweetly. 

"Bye Eden, bye Charlie" I reply as I start to walk down the next hallway. I stop and turn to watch them walk away, well watch Charlie walk away that is. 

Once they had gone, I walk to class and get settled into the period. 

"Just my luck" I chuckle to myself.
