~ Charlie's POV ~

School soon finishes and I'm glad because ever since I introduced Knox to everyone, both Ryder and I have been on edge. Something is clearly bothering him and I still feel unsafe around Knox. 

I'm glad that Ryder and I have art together last period because it meant that I could calm him down a bit. I don't think he's jealous or mad or pissed that I kind of made friends with Knox, he seems more upset than anything. 

Maybe even upset with himself, which I really don't understand but hopefully, I'll find out. Ryder decided that he would spend the afternoon at the cafe while I work and then come to my place and work on my car. 

I happily agreed because I really am falling for him at this point and I also want to know what is wrong. I drive to the cafe and Ryder follows in his car. 

We go inside together and he kisses me before I get to work and he makes himself comfortable on one of the couches after ordering a coffee. I set about making his coffee and I watch him, smiling. 

He's so sexy, I really don't know how I got so lucky.

~ Ryder's POV ~

I watch as Charlie brings me my coffee happily before getting back to work. Fuck, I need to keep her safe. I pull out my phone and dial Delphine's number. She picks up after the second ring and I relax slightly. 

"Hey bro, what's up?" she asks cheerfully through the phone. 

"The last angel. He's here in the town, he joined the high school and has become friends with Charlie" I reply, anxiously. 

"Oh no. Ryder, I'm so sorry. What are you going to do?". 

"I don't know, that's the thing. I don't even know how to keep her safe. He could try and kill her tonight for all I know". 

"Oh ummm well, is there anything I can do to help?". 

"Yes actually, do you think you could get a guardian angel to watch over Charlie whenever I'm not with her until I figure something out?". 

"Umm I can try, but I can't promise anything. Gimme two seconds" she says before putting the phone down. Fuck, I understand why God chose her to be a guardian angel. 

She is literally the sweetest person ever and she is still only a kid. Yet she acts so mature and is an amazing fighter. If only I was a guardian, then I could protect Charlie without a worry. 

But no, I went and got my stupid ass kicked out of heaven and now I'm paying the price. I hear movement through the phone and snap out of it. 

"You still there Ryder?" she asks concerned. 

"Yeah, I'm here". 

"Good. Now I was able to pull some strings and get you the best that I could manage. It's not exactly what you wanted but it will have to do and you owe me". 

"I know, I promise I will pay you back. Anything you want. What were you able to get me?". 

"A guardian will watch over her at night, 9 pm to 7 am but that's it. You're on your own for the rest". 

"Yay, thank you so much, Del. I really do owe you. What would you like? I'll do anything?" I reply happily. She pauses and then chuckles. 

"I want you to do something good, something that will get you back into heaven, maybe even make you a guardian," she says sweetly. 

"Okay Del. I promise you". 

"Yay! Thank you, Ryder". 

"Anything for my Del Bell" I reply, chuckling. I look over and see Charlie watching me carefully. I smile at her and she smiles back. 

"Hey Del, I gotta go but thank you so much. Hold me to my promise yeah?" I say smiling. 

"Will do, let me know how it all goes. I love you, Ryder". 

"I love you too Del". 

"Bye Ryder," she says happily. 

"Bye Del" I reply smiling. I end the call and look back over at Charlie before dialing Cole's number. He picks up and I quickly explain what is happening and that we need to talk later about a plan to kill Knox before hanging up and starting some homework. 

I look up and watch as Charlie comes over and sits down next to me. 

"You okay Ryder?" she asks nervously. I nod and smile, rubbing her knee with my thumb. 

"Who were you calling?". 

"A friend from back home and Cole" I reply with a small smile. She frowns at me and I smirk, pulling her into me. 

"I'll explain when we get to your house angel," I say before kissing her head. She snuggles into me for a moment before getting up and going back to work. I spend the rest of the time at the cafe drawing pictures of Charlie instead of doing my homework. 

She ends her shift and comes over as I finish my third drawing.

"Hey," she says, sitting down next to me. 

"What have you been up to?". I smile at her and pick up the drawings and show them to her. She mouth drops and I smirk. 

"They're amazing Ryder," she says in awe. I grin and kiss her softly. I pull away and she smiles, blush rising to her cheeks. Fuck, she's so beautiful and she's all mine. I smile and pack up my stuff before following her out to our cars. 

"Please be safe," I say, giving her a worried look. 

"I will be, I promise" she replies back before kissing my cheek and getting into her truck. I walk over to my car and watch her leave. Suddenly something doesn't feel right. I quickly get into my car and speed off. 

I race through town to find her pulled over to the side of the road. I quickly park behind her and run to the driver's door to see her leaning against the steering wheel passed out. 

Fuck, I look around and see Knox leaning against a building with a wicked grin. I go to attack him but he runs away, laughing his head off. I growl and turn my attention back to Charlie, who is coming around. 

I watch as she rolls her head towards me and bursts into tears when she realises that it is me. I hold her in my arms and slowly rub her back until she calms down bub. 

"What happened angel," I ask quietly, still holding her. 

"I-I-I stopped to let someone cross the crossing and-and-and" she starts, stuttering hard through her tears. 

"Th-th-there was this angel thing. I-I-It landed right in front of me and attack the person and I slammed on my brakes and I wanted to help but I couldn't move. I don't know why. I just couldn't. So I watched this angel thing kill this person". I watch as she breaks away for a moment to look at the road, a mortified expression appearing on her face her face. 

"Wh-wh-where did he go? The angel and the person". I go to say something but stop. I need to be careful about this. I want to tell her everything, but I can't. Not yet, not until he's dead. 

"Fuck, I'm going crazy" she starts to laugh, more tears streaming down her face. 

"No Angel. You're not. I'll explain everything when we get to your house, I promise" I say, the worry present in my voice. She nods and stops crying and I kiss her gently before telling her to head straight home. I walk back to my car and check to see if Knox has come back. 

He hasn't, the bastard. He's fucking with my angel's mind and I hate it. I follow her back to her house and I get out and walk over to her truck and help her out. She stays in my arms and I kiss her on the head. 

I scoop her up and carry her up the stairs before setting her down and opening the door. We walk inside to see Adette and Carina sitting on the couch cuddling. 

"Ryder! How are you?" Carina asks cheerfully. 

"I'm good thank you. And yourself?" I reply smiling. 

"I'm good. Adette, meet Ryder" she says grinning, turning to Adette. 

"Hi Ryder, I'm Adette. Are you Charlie's boyfriend?" she asks, giggling. 

"Hi Adette. Yes I am, is that okay?" I reply sweetly, causing Charlie to blush. Finally, she has some colour back in her face. 

"Yeah, that's okay. Charlie hasn't had a boyfriend in a really long time" Adette replies giggling. I chuckle. Interesting. I feel Charlie pull at my hand, blushing hard. 

"Bye losers" Charlie says to her family, clearly embarrassed. I laugh and follow her up the stairs to her bedroom. 

I sit down on her bed and she closes the door before sitting down next to me and snuggling into my side. Now for the hard part.
