24. I can teach you how to love

“Oh, of course, so you think I'm a fool.” There was no malice in Fourth's voice, only amusement. Gemini raised one eyebrow.

“What?”

“Nothing other than the fact that you don't think I'm such a fool that I wouldn't be able to tell my own sister from some pretender. Gemini, I felt from the beginning that she wasn't my sister, my P'Tu. I know her. You sounded a moment ago as if you were suggesting that I didn't know my own sister.”

“If you knew about it, why did you pretend not to know? And you didn't tell me anything?”

“There was no opportunity. Wait, what are you doing?!”

The shock in Nattawat's voice was completely justified. Norawit first led his recently-still-enemy to their shared room, and now sat him down on the bed. He even handed Fourth a glass of water.

Gemini, knowing that Fourth was about to be discharged from the institute hospital, made sure that their apartment looked as cozy and friendly as possible.  He even asked P'First to help him change the floor so that it would never show a race track again.

“After all that happened I think he will hate Formula 1, so we should change it a bit”, Gemini told P'First few hours ago. P'First only smiled as if he knew everything already.

Fourth was in for quite a shock when he entered their apartment. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if they had mixed up the rooms.
Everything that had previously referred to motorsport in any way was now gone. There was nothing to indicate that a Formula 1 fan had lived here just a moment ago. The ceiling was enchanted to show the sky at a given time of day (like in the famous Hogwarts) or night, the floor changed depending on the owner's mood (at the moment it resembled a green meadow full of various flowers that bent slightly under the touch of the wind).

Books about motorsport were replaced by guides for young parents, fairy tales for children, books of spells and potions, and even tourist atlases.  Some prankster (Gemini suspected Dunk of having such "brilliant" ideas) even placed a baby cot in the middle of the room, against the wall, between a cabinet filled entirely with stuffed animals and children's clothes and a bookshelf.

“What happened here?”

“Oh, that’s an excellent question, and honestly, I’d like to know.”

Gemini looked like an innocent little thing who hadn’t planned on it at all, and who hadn’t guessed that having the room re-arranged so quickly by people who were so completely unsuitable for the task as Phuwin, Dunk, First, Poon, Mark, and Aungpao could end in total disaster.

Fourth had no intention of sitting on the bed obediently. He looked around the room and grabbed his head dramatically.

“Gem! Where are my things?!”

“What things?”

“All of them! My Formula 1 cars, my books, my memorabilia...!”

“I threw them out. I thought it would be better if nothing reminded you of this pathetic and worthless world of motorsport,” Gemini replied carelessly, waving his hand as if it really didn’t matter. Fourth felt offended.

“You didn’t even ask if you could do it…”

“It’ll be better this way, believe me.”

Fourth didn’t want to argue with him, even though such an arbitrary decision made without consulting him hurt him. He decided to focus his thoughts on something else. He went to the cabinet with stuffed animals and picked up a blue monkey, which started changing colors to pastel rainbows under his touch.

“And this? What do we need it for?”

“Nooooo... Do I really have to explain it to you?”

“Well, actually, it would be a good idea for you to tell me what this is all about, because I’m sorry, but I don’t have the ability to read minds. And from what I know, it can only be acquired after marriage and it only applies to a partner with whom we share a bond of twin souls, and I don’t think that’s what connects us,” Fourth stated sarcastically, and then twisted his lips in a strange way.

«Do you have to be so damn cute?!  You really are too innocent to know how your expressions affect me... Come back, Norawit, pull yourself together! You'll only cause yourself more problems! Right now you need to calm down! He's still your enemy!» Gemini tried in vain to calm down the stream of his own unwanted thoughts. And the malicious voice in his head that he hated so much made itself known again.

«Oh, isn't it obvious? You're going to have a child together, I guess that already means that he's not your enemy for a long time»

Gemini approached Fourth in order to take the mascot from him. He stood next to him and snatched the plushie from Nattawat's hands. Fourth looked at him questioningly.

“Never mind, you don't want to know”. Norawit's cold tone of voice returned to hurt Fourth, who did not realize that Gemini reacted this way to situations that were embarrassing for him, in which he lost his typical self-confidence and courage. A few minutes earlier, everyone had walked them almost to the door of their shared apartment, and then they had disappeared (Dunk had managed to lean towards Gem and whisper in his ear: "We'll give you some privacy, I think that's what you need right now," and Gemini rewarded his brother for these words with a good kick in the ass, after which Dunk retreated, grabbing his own ass).

“Gem, will you finally tell me what's wrong? You're acting strange. One moment you're nice to me, and the next you push me away. You do things like you care about me, and then suddenly you say something that makes me feel like you regret ever meeting me.”

“Because that's how it is,” Gemini answered quite honestly and sadly, looking into Fourth's eyes, in which tears began to gather more and more after each sentence he spoke. “I didn't want to meet you.”

He had other words on the tip of his tongue, the ones that meant the most, the ones that had to be said, but he, this street kid who always had to fight for everything, lacked the energy to say them, he lacked the faith that his words could bring something good.

He wanted to say so much: “Because if we hadn't met, Gasly wouldn't have used us and hurt you, you would have been safe.”

He didn't say it. Even though those words meant the same as 'I love you'.  But Gemini never felt loved or needed. Even with his own brother, he sometimes had the impression that Dunk didn't take him seriously.

“Then forgive me for appearing in your life!” Fourth exclaimed and turned to leave. However, he did it too quickly, which made him dizzy, tripped over his own feet and fell straight into Gem's arms. Gemini completely automatically and unconsciously spread his arms to prevent Fourth from falling. And when he held him in his arms, it suddenly seemed to him that time had stopped.

Fourth looked up and asked quietly.

“Gem, I really don't demand that you take responsibility for something that wasn't your fault. It was the P'Off, our boss, who gave us this task. He was the one who told us to go to Gasly and he was the one who wanted us to find evidence connecting Gasly to the Thai mafia. No one could have predicted that it would end like this, which is why I don't demand that you love me or even this child, even if it's ours.  I only ask one thing: can't you accept him? Please? I was raised by adoptive parents, and as far as I know, you've never had a real family either. Can't we at least try?”

As he said this, his heart was beating loudly and quickly, as if it wanted to break out of his chest. He looked pleadingly at Gem, and Norawit helped him to his feet, led him to the bed, and then sat down next to him, still not letting go of his hand.

Gem gently brushed back Nattawat's hair, which he considered too long (which often partially covered his eyes).

“Fourth... But I can't love, don't you understand? No one has ever loved me, not even my own father. My mother abandoned me, and my brother, I have the impression that he's often ashamed to say that he's my brother. I don't know how to love”.

“Then let me teach you. Let me teach you how to love”.

Fourth felt his cheeks burning and his ears burning like a living fire.  Adrenaline was pumping through his veins, giving him a courage he hadn't known before. He felt like he'd lost not only his virginity that night, but also the overwhelming fear that always gripped him in Norawit's presence. It was as if that fear had never existed. He would never have gathered the courage to speak so openly about what he thought before, but now he felt like that night had awakened another part of his mind, one that wasn't afraid of the challenges thrown at it.

“W-what d-did you say?” Gemini could only blink and stutter. Such a bold declaration from his former arch-enemy made a stunning impression on him. His own heart stopped and then made some weird dance inside his chest. In his stomach he felt the presence of galloping furious unicorns and not just dancing butterflies. He opened his mouth slightly and tilted his head to the side, not believing what he was hearing.

“What you heard. We both didn't have a happy childhood, let's not do the same to our child.”

“Y-yes, b-but...”

Gemini couldn't put together a single logical sentence.

He, who no one ever loved, he, who had no family and who grew up on the streets, could he create a family for someone else? It seemed completely impossible to him.

Fourth took his hand and placed it on his own stomach. Nothing was visible yet, they both knew it was too early, but Dr. Jimmy managed to confirm that Fourth was indeed pregnant.

“I know Prim is pregnant too, but thanks to Pahn's help I managed to find out that you are not the father of her child, and this little one is ours, yours and mine, whether you want it or not. You can't turn back time. You don't have to love me, just accept our child.”

“Wait... What did you say? That Prim what?”
Gemini asked, but didn't take his hand off Fourth's stomach.  He felt a strange, warm, good energy beneath his fingers.

“She didn’t tell you?”

“But what about?”

“She visited me about two days ago and told me she was pregnant and you were the father. I asked Pahn to gently question her about it. Pahn’s brother, Poon, did his own little investigation and it turns out that your friend is another victim of Gasly and Tsunoda.”

“How so?”

“Remember what you told me a few minutes ago? That Tu wasn’t Tu? And do you know who can transform into someone else? A demon. Poon and Chokun believe that the father of Prim’s child is a demon. The same one who pretended to be Tu, and you before that.”

“TSUNODA?!”

“Yeah, that would fit, don’t you think? Between the race weekend in Italy at Monza and the race here, we had a whole month off, Gasly and Tsunoda had time to prepare it.”

“Okay, but if it’s a demon, how did it get into the Institute?”  Gemini was not satisfied with this fact. He stood up and began to slowly pace around the room. He took a soft, small ball resembling a volleyball from the toy shelf and began tossing and catching it. It helped him concentrate.

“If it's Tsunoda and if he's a demon...”
Gemini suddenly stopped dead in his tracks.

“What's wrong?” His sudden stop caught Nattawat's attention.

“Fuck, we have to warn Prim right away. And yes, you're right, I'm not the father of her child. You see... I've done things, but I would never agree to something like this, because I know that Prim has someone she loves, and that would be cheating. I hate cheating.”

“There's something else, Gem.”

Fourth got out of bed. He felt a little better already. His head had stopped spinning, and his heart was finally calming down. His cheeks and ears were still red. He walked over to Gem, took the ball that Norawit was playing with, and finished his sentence:

“If Chokun and Poon are right, then Prim is carrying a demon's child. It's dangerous. From what Chokun and I read, it could even kill her.”

Gem covered his mouth with his hand.

His friend, the person who got him a job in show business, the person he could trust at least a little, was used so cruelly... He couldn't let that happen, he felt responsible for her. She was tiny, thin, but she had a great strength of character. Norawit knew beyond a doubt that Prim didn't deserve something so horrible.

“I'll tell her. I'm going to her now. Do you want to come with me?”

“Prim will kill me.”

“Why would she do that? Don't be afraid of her, Prim is harmless.”

“It depends on who you're talking to,” Fourth pointed out, puffing out his cheeks playfully. Gemini couldn't resist the temptation and tapped both of Nattawat's cheeks, which were filled with air, with his fingers, making the air leave his mouth with a loud: 'Poof!'

“Oh, silly, you weren't jealous of Prim, were you?!” Gemini exclaimed, slightly amused, but pleasantly surprised.  Fourth just rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Why would I be jealous? I'm the one carrying your child, not her.”

Gemini laughed loudly.

“Oh great wizard! Fourth, you really are jealous! Adorable! You're adorable!”

“Shut up. Were we supposed to go to Prim?”

“Sure, but first tell me why you think she would kill you?”

“Because I promised her I wouldn't tell you anything until she told you herself.”

“Oh, that's a small thing, I'll explain it to her, don't worry. So what? Because I'm going.”
Gemini was already at the door when he turned around and extended his hand to Fourth, looking at him expectantly. Nattawat sighed quietly, but obediently took Norawit's hand.

This was a completely new and unusual experience for both of them.  Fourth had never even held hands with anyone other than his own sister, and the only other person he'd ever hugged was his cousin, First Kanaphan. And in the past little over a week, he'd already done a lot more, and with someone he'd thought would forever be his bitter enemy.
