He slowly opened his eyes, looking up at the dirty ceiling. He was at the inn. How did he get there...? Last thing he remembered, he was in the caves with...
With a jolt, he sat up in bed. His room was empty with numerous medical things laying around... He had been poisoned after all...
His ears perked slightly as he heard Chrome cursing from the next room over, and Ewelein giving commands. If he wasn't mistaken, that was (Y/N)'s room...
He quickly got out of bed and ran next door, knocking before letting himself in. His suspicions were true. (Y/N) had been poisoned as well... She was panting slightly as Chrome and Ewelein were giving her some kind of medicine.
"Nevra! You're awake!" Chrome exclaimed as he finally saw the vampire standing in the doorway.
"Chrome, I can handle it from here, you fill Nevra in on what happened while he was asleep." Ewelein said as she didn't even take her eyes from (Y/N). Before they could leave the room though, Nevra heard (Y/N) whimper out slightly.
"Nevra..."
He felt a pain in his chest as he cursed himself. He should have never let her into those caves...
"Hey, you alright?" Chrome asked, sensing that Nevra wasn't himself at the moment.
"Just fine. What happened?"
"Well..." Chrome looked away as he thought on how to word the tale. "She came out of the caves a long time ago, about seven hours, carrying you. We got you back here for Ewelein to take a look at you, but (Y/N) felt guilty for some reason. Ewelein talked with her after you were stable then came back into the room without (Y/N), and she looked pretty worried. (Y/N) disappeared for four hours after that and I found her stumbling out of the caves just before she passed out." Chrome chuckled to himself. "She found out where the poison was coming from and managed to talk the creatures in the cave to give us samples. That's how you're better now, Ewelein made an antidote."
Nevra sighed in relief, but heard more whimpers from (Y/N)'s room. "Then why is it taking so long for (Y/N) to be given the antidote?"
Chrome looked away, and Nevra could tell he wasn't happy. Despite how the boy acted, he had grown fond of the half human. They all had.
"She's been in the cave for hours... The poison was more severe for her, and she apparently even held one of the mushroom people that were the cause of the poison. Ewelein is sure she'll live, but it'll take time for her to be in the clear."
Nevra officially hated himself. It was his fault she was like this... If he hadn't gone so deep in the caves and passed out, then (Y/N) wouldn't have felt the strong need to find the source of the poison.
He left Chrome without a word, going outside. He could hear the whispers of the village people, talking about how him and (Y/N) were now poisoned and that they were all doomed. He felt like hurting them... They only thought about themselves... And now one of his members was laying on a bed in pain because of a stupid mission.
He went outside the town and sighed, going to sit on a hill. He had wanted to come out here with (Y/N) during their time off... But it didn't look like that would happen now.
He thought back to all the times they had spent alone together. He admitted that he could have said a few things differently, but he was happy with those memories. (Y/N) always made him laugh and feel alive. Not to mention her teasing that kept him on his toes. If he so much as thought to let his guard down around her, he felt like his heart would be bare. And eventually he would. He could tell... He would let her in to see him as he was, all too soon...
He sighed as he laid back on the ground. He wanted her to be better soon... He wanted to see her smiling and laughing again. He missed their easy times together... With this mission, they were both put on edge. Sure, he was a bit commanding for her because he didn't want her to be poisoned, but he was also her superior and had to act like it for once. Neither of them were used to that... But he knew he couldn't keep the higher role up with her all the time. There was something special about her that made him want to treat her as his equal. Who knows, she may be one day.
No... No, she wouldn't. She wanted to go home. Back to her world. She wanted to leave this place. Leave him... And he couldn't stop her. One day she would no longer be at his side, and that hurt him more than he'd like to say.
Time passed as he made his way back to the inn. He went to check on (Y/N) and fund that she was much better than before. He was able to go to sleep somewhat easier that night, but while keeping his ears on alert for any discomfort coming from the girl next door.
The next day they were forced to leave the town as a fight threatened to break out among the mushrooms and villagers. Nevra didn't mind to get out of the horrible village, but was worried about moving (Y/N), no matter how much Ewelein assured him that it was safe.
(Y/N) slept the whole trip back to HQ and then some. Miiko thankfully was merciful enough to let him stay by her side until she awoke. Which was two days later.
He went two days without hearing her voice... Two days of watching her still body and pale skin... Two days of feeling helpless...
When she let out that little noise on the third day, he was by her side in an instant.
"Well, my sleeping beauty seems to finally be waking up." He chuckled lightly. "Or should I say my knight in shining armor?"
"Nevra...?" Her eyes opened as she quickly sat up. "Where are we?"
Ah... He finally was able to hear her voice again. He knew that she would be distraught over what was happening in the village, but right now all he cared about was hearing her voice.
He left the room, somewhat sad for what she would soon discover, but also happy that she would be alright. She's survived so much while being in this world, and he knew she would survive much more to come.
With his help of course~
