Separated

It had been a few days since Charlotte's trial. Khan and her had really done nothing but talk. They didn't have anything else to do except watch the occasional prison riot that broke out in the cells around them. If there had been anyone in their cell besides them, one would have broken out every day because of Khan's personality.

"Khan?" Charlotte said one day, turning to him.

"Yes?" Khan said.

"It's been almost a week since the trial. When are we going to find out my punishment?" Charlotte asked. Khan sighed. Charlotte asked this almost every day.

"Darling, you have asked this nearly every day since the trial, and I am going to give you the answer I have given you every single time. I don't know." Khan said as gently as he could, but his voice was slightly irritated.

"I know, I'm sorry." Charlotte sighed. "I'm just nervous."

"I know, I know." Khan said. "I'm somewhat nervous too."

Charlotte and Khan hugged tightly. Charlotte could hear Khan's heart pounding. She knew that he wasn't just 'somewhat nervous' but that he was just as scared as she was. She couldn't imagine her life without Khan again. She had just gotten him back and now she was going to lose him again. She knew Khan felt the same way about her.

"Charlotte?" Khan said. "I love you, you know. A lot."

"I love you a lot too." Charlotte said. Neither of them had moved from their hugging position.

That night while they were laying together and trying to fall asleep, Charlotte and Khan were both pulled out of their half-sleep when they heard people storming down the hallway. It was most likely guards. Khan gripped Charlotte tightly to him. They came to their cell and Khan stood up. Charlotte sat up on the cot.

"What are you doing here?" Khan asked harshly. "You've woken me and my wife up."

"Well, lucky for you, you'll be able to get plenty of sleep where you're going." One of the guards said.

"Wait, what?" Khan said.

"Get him!" The first guard shouted.

Khan was too shocked to fight as the two guards grabbed him, but quickly got his bearings. He fought them off and tried to run to Charlotte. The second guard attacked Khan and put handcuffs on him. He knew now that it was pointless to fight. Charlotte, who had been watching the scene in shock, attacked.

"LET HIM GO!" She yelled.

She jumped on the guard's back and the guard threw her off. She hit the wall- hard -and slid to the floor, unconcious. The last thing she heard was Khan shouting her name. His voice sounded panicked and terrified.

Khan looked at Charlotte's body on the floor. He glared at the guards, fury darkening his features. They didn't seem to care, though, as they led him down the corridor. Khan struggled against them to no avail.

"I get dibs on the lady!" A prisoner who had been eyeing Charlotte for a while now said. Khan looked to the guards.

"Where are you taking me?" He asked.

"Don't ask so many questions." The first guard said.

"Where. Am. I. Going?" Khan asked.

"Well, to be blunt, we're putting you back to sleep." The second guard said.

"No, not until I say goodbye to my wife!" Khan shouted.

"Too bad. The council decided that you and Charlotte wouldn't get to say goodbye. That's your actual punishment." The second guard said.

Khan looked at the cyrotube in which he would be put. Once, he would have given anything to be with his crew, but now all he wanted was to be with Charlotte. She was going to be so scared when she woke up. She wouldn't understand.

"Can you tell Charlotte that I love her?" Khan asked, ready to start crying.

"Maybe." The first guard said.

"Please tell her." Khan said, tears pouring down his face. "Please."

The guard rolled his eyes. "Fine."

"You may put me under now." Khan sighed, knowing they wouldn't.

A shot was injected into him. Khan laid down in the cyrotube and focused on his memories of Charlotte. He remembered when they had first met and she had been appointed as his supervisor. He remembered being rude to her and trying to convince himself that he didn't like her when, in reality, he was madly in love with her. He remembered waking up after sleeping for three years and seeing her hiding behind some boxes, terrified of his reaction. He remembered her getting sick and him saving her life. As he closed his eyes, Khan focused on the sound of Charlotte's laugh and the feeling of her arms around him. As he drifted into darkness, his last thought was of her.

-----------------------

Charlotte woke up, her head pounding. Someone was standing over her. She thought it was Khan at first. As her vision cleared, she noticed that it wasn't Khan, but a female doctor. Charlotte began to panic. Where was she?

"Easy, easy." The doctor put a gentle hand on her arm.

"Khan!" Charlotte yelled. "Where's Khan? Where's my husband?"

"Didn't they tell you?" The doctor asked.

"Tell me what?" Charlotte asked.

"You're talking about Khan Noonien Singh, right?" The doctor asked. Charlotte nodded. "They put him back into an induced coma."

"No...no." Charlotte whispered. She started crying. She couldn't help it. "We didn't even get to say goodbye!"

Charlotte ignored the motherly doctor's attempts to calm her. She didn't want to be calmed. She wanted Khan. They hadn't been able to say goodbye, which pained Charlotte more than anything. She was never going to see Khan again. If he was ever woken up again, she would be long dead. It reminded her of a poem she had read a long time ago called Annabelle Lee. The only differences were that it was the woman in the relationship who would have the narrator and Khan wasn't dead. But he might as well have been. Once Charlotte had calmed down, she was led to a cell by the guards. She would be sharing one this time. She didn't want to, but, as she was told by the guards one their way down, this was her punishment. She was flung into the cell.

"Well, well, well." A man said, looking Charlotte up and down. Charlotte backed into the door of the cell.

"Back off." She said.

"I haven't even backed on yet." The man smirked.

Charlotte slapped him across the face and kicked him hard enough so he crashed into the wall. She gaped after realizing what she had done. She had just used her new strength for the first time. She looked around everyone else in the cell, daring them to mess with her. A girl with brown hair and brown eyes was smirking in amusement. She patted the space next to her and Charlotte went over to her.

"Hello." She said politely.

"Hey." The other girl said. "The name's Daisy."

"I'm Charlotte." Charlotte said.

"What are you in for?" Daisy asked.

"I stole a StarFleet ship to run away with a criminal who I fell in love with." Charlotte explained.

"Oh, you must be Khan's wife." Daisy said.

"How did you know?" Charlotte gaped.

"It's been all anyone's talking about." Daisy said.

"Why are you here?" Charlotte asked.

"I robbed a StarFleet data base. The same one Khan destroyed a few years back." Daisy shrugged as if it was no big deal.

She and Daisy talked a little longer. It was as if they were meant to be best friends. When they were served dinner, Charlotte barely touched it. She wasn't hungry. She missed her husband. She wanted nothing more than for him to come up behind her and hold her in his arms until she felt better. Charlotte couldn't sleep at all that night. There was only one cot in the prison cell and Charlotte and decided to curl up in the corner and try to sleep. All she could do was sit and think of Khan. Was he really asleep yet, or were they torturing him? Would he be with his crew again? Would she, if she was joined by guards, be allowed to visit him and tell him just how much she loved him? Had he been just as distraught as she was when he had found out what was happening? These questions, and many others, were racing through her brain. Charlotte felt tears of anger and sadness leak out of her eyes.

"I love you and miss you, Khan." She whispered.

----------------------

Khan, even in a coma, was still able to think a little. His thoughts focused on Charlotte. Was she okay? She was still so young to be dealing with all of this. Had she eaten recently? It had to have been hours since he had been put in a coma. Dinner would have been served by now. She needed to eat. Khan had always given her most of his meals and practically shoved them down her throat since he knew that she would be too worried to eat otherwise. Was she still in their old cell alone, or was she in a cell with other people now? Had she been placed in a cell with the man who had been checking her out every chance he got? Khan was worried for her. He wanted to get woken up and go see her again. All he wanted was to tell her that he loved her and hold her against him just one last time. He didn't want her to be afraid and he knew that she was. He could feel it. He had always been able to tell when something was up with her, even if they were miles apart. She obviously wouldn't sleep well tonight, that was for sure. She never slept well when she thought too much and her brain would be on fire contemplating what had happened to him and why they hadn't been able to say goodbye.

I love you, my darling. He thought fiercely.

-----------------------

When morning came, Charlotte's neck was stiff. She hadn't slept at all. She had just sat awake all night, thinking or taking in her surroundings. She didn't know how she would get along without Khan. He was her world. She knew he would want her to be brave. That was what she would have to do.

-------------------------

Daisy will be played by Chloe Bennet. Anyone get the connection? No? Okay, I'll explain. Elizabeth Henstridge, who stars as Charlotte in this fic, plays Jemma Simmons who is my favorite character on MARVEL's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which is currently my favorite show with Sherlock being on hiatus. Chloe Bennet stars as Skye who is Jemma's best girl friend. Skye's real name, which she was given by her parents, is Daisy. BOOM.
