Chapter 2 - In Hiding

*Your POV*

     We were running through the forest on our way to where the treehouse is at. The refugees were staying there, and sure enough, the shadow knight auras were coming from them.

     "Why didn't you think of sensing everyone that's a stranger and a whole clan to the village?" Laurance said, as we were speeding through the forest.

     "I didn't think it was a necessity!" I reasoned out.

     "Well, now you know." He says.

     I roll my eyes then spread out my wings. I grab his hand and we fly towards the tree.

     "Crap.." Laurance mumbles as he saw the people in the village. Okay, something is definitely not right.

     "What's wrong?" I ask.

     "Gene.." He whispers.

     "Who's Gene?" I ask, landing.

     "I'm Gene." A voice so cold that it sent shivers to my spine said. We turned around and immediately, Laurance rushed in front of me to cover me.

     "Oh no..." Zane.

     "What's wrong?" I ask.

     "Stay away." Laurance said in a tone I've never heard before.

     "Oh, have you seen Dante? I haven't seen him yet. I wanted to surprise my little brother. For sure he'll be pleased." Gene smirks. Brother?

     "Leave us alone. You have no business here." Laurance.

     "Oh, but I do." Gene says, walking over to Laurance's side. "These people in this village are such a threat to the Nether. Maybe it's time to get rid of them, you know."

     "LEAVE, NOW!" Laurance growls.

     "Oh, but you wouldn't want a commotion, would you now, Laurance?" Gene laughs. "And you thought it was a smart thing to do to just stab me in the Nether, not even looking around if another Shadow Knight was watching."

     Laurance was shocked and bothered by his statement, but kept his stance.

     "I don't know whatever your purpose is, but with you talking like that, I don't think I like you." I say. I was trying hard to sustain my emotions or else I'll transform into my rage form again. I don't wanna break my streak just yet.

     "Oh, and an Ether! My, Laurance. Irene knows what you've been up to." Gene.

     "Leave her alone. She's done nothing." Laurance.

     Just then Dante came walking to the treehouse. He froze as soon as he saw Gene.

     "Gene..." Dante said in a dark voice.

     "Oh, Dante! How's my little brother doing?" Gene smirks.

     "What are YOU doing here? What do you want?!" Dante.

     Gene just smiles evilly. No...he did something.... something's happening! The so-called refugees weren't at the treehouse anymore and...and...

     "AHHH!!" Kawaii~Chan's screams were heard.

     "Kawaii~Chan!" Dante cried and went down the treehouse to go to her.

     "What did you do?!" Laurance.

     "Only what I know best." Gene.

     My eyes widened and I looked out to the village.

     Shadow knights......

     "LAURANCE!!" I called.

     Laurance ran to me and as soon as he saw them, he drew his sword and turned to face Gene. But he was gone...

     Alexis, Kyle, Logan and everyone else were fending them off.

     "Crap." Laurance turned to me and nodded. I carried him down and we helped them fight the shadow knights.

     But then I remembered..Eyanne!

     "Laurance, I'm going to go see Eyanne!"

     "Hold on, I'm coming with you!" Laurance tried to say but he was fighting another shadow knight.

     There's no time, I can't wait for him. I flew out of my battle and sped through the trees to Kawaii~Chan's house. Once I got in, Eyanne was awake, and Gene was there...

     "This girl right here...she has Armory magicks, huh?" Gene smiles. "Useful.."

     Eyanne was pointing her dagger at him, cowering in fear.

     "Leave her alone, Gene." I threaten.

     "And you....my, my. You have sense magicks! Apparently I'm so fortunate, huh?"

     "Just shut up and leave!" I don't care how he knows anymore, but I'm not liking him one bit. So much for first impressions.

     "Oh, but we're not done yet, why should we leave now?"

     "The question is why should you not."

     "Can you please just leave now? I don't even know you." Eyanne says.

     "Shut your mouth. I'm taking you to the Nether." Gene told Eyanne.

     "Don't talk to her like that." I growled.

     "Tch. I hate this." Gene said and he pushed me away, taking Eyanne and pulling her outside.

     As soon as I get out I drew my sword and attacked him, with him blocking it. He smiled and suddenly all the shadow knights were attacking me. What the...? Where's everyone?

     "(Y/n)!!!" I heard Eyanne scream. And more shadow knights were coming. Crap, if they were shadow souls this would be much easier. I flew and fought them, but some had magicks and I had to dodge them. Dangit! Where are Dante and the others?

     "(Y/n), it's Eyanne!" Zane.

     Just then I saw Gene taking Eyanne away. That's it!

     I turned into my rage form and ran through the maze. This would definitely take care of most of them. As soon as I saw the portal, I went in it and found most of the shadow knights dead and shadow souls disappeared. Although my right leg is bleeding, it didn't hurt much.

     I looked around searching for Eyanne. Then I saw her with Gene and I flew away from the shadow knights and souls to get her.

     "Tch. You're not making this easy, are you?" Gene said. "Well then, suit yourself." He snapped his fingers and the shadow creatures were charging at us.

     I covered for Eyanne not giving in.

     "Well, if I can't have her, no one can!" Gene said and I heard Eyanne gasp behind me.

     "(Y-(Y/n).." Zane.

     I turned to find Gene's sword through Eyanne's chest, with Eyanne falling to the ground..

     "NO!" A young female shadow knight screamed and ran to her before even I could.

     "Hi, Santi..." Eyanne barely says to the girl. "It's been a while.."

     "Eyanne, Eyanne no!" The girl, probably Santi, turned to Gene. "You said you wouldn't hurt her!" She screams at him.

     Gene just shrugs. "We should go. Pack up and we'll take their ship." He commands.

     Santi gently puts Eyanne down and follows Gene obediently. What the...?

     I ran to Eyanne and hugged her. "Please don't give up now..." I tried to sense someone near but there was no one except for the shadow knights. Are they all dead? Have they taken them?

     I carried her and looked around. No one was there. What the heck?

     I ran and ran and ran. I headed to Lucinda's house and the portal was closed. What...?

     "(Y/n), there's no point.." Eyanne hardly said. "It's ok. Tell Malachi he's a doofus." She smiles weakly.

     "She's right. As much as I hate to say this, no one's there. Everyone's gone.." Zane.

     Tears flooded my eyes.

     "No, Eyanne! Don't talk like that!" I shouted. "Help, please! Someone!"

     "Don't. They're gone. No one's here..it's okay..." Eyanne reassured me. I tried to sense her, and she's not scared. She's really okay with this..

     I began to cry uncontrollably and hugging her. This can't be happening..she's too young, she's great and...and..

     "Promise me you won't dwell on me." Eyanne said. "Promise me you'll go on. Promise me Laurance will still hear that laugh. Promise me."

     I nodded. "Eyanne..."

     She smiled as she shut her eyes...

     I was still sitting here, leaning against a tree. I already buried Eyanne by her treehouse. And Sly was just laying depressed beside me.

     Right now, emotions don't exist to me. I tried searching for everyone, but no one was there. I didn't even see bodies.

     I just want to do nothing right now. Not even sleep or anything. To see this fourteen year old girl getting stabbed in the heart and dying in your arms, and you see her as much as your sister..

     "(Y/n)? (Y/N)!?" I saw Laurance run to me.

     I just looked at him bored. "Laurance..?"

     "What happened? Are you hurt?"

     "I was all alone. Everyone left. I had no one. No one at all. They even took the last thing I had when all else disappeared." I said these without showing a sign of emotion. "The world is a cruel, cruel place. Don't get involved with it, will you?"

     "(Y-(Y/n)? What the..? Tell me what happened."

     I looked away from him, still showing no emotion. "I saw a squirrel jumping down from a tree, grabbing onto a branch, which caused another squirrel to fall to its death." I laughed.

     "(Y/n)..."

     "Laurance?" I saw Aphmau and some others approach us. "Is everything okay?" Why is it that for some reason, she seems relieved to see me?

     I stood up but didn't do anything afterwards.

     "(Y/n)...where's Eyanne~Chan?" Kawaii~Chan said, worried.

     "Where were you guys?" I asked rather coldly.

     They all looked at each other. Guilt spread throughout them. Hesitant and determined to the right thing. What right thing?

     "We were at Iraija. We all evacuated there as soon as the shadow knights left us." Vylad.

     "All of you?" I asked.

     "All of us. Why do you ask?" Vylad.

     I looked at Laurance who was looking at Aphmau. I sensed he was upset with her.

     "Explain, Laurance." I said, sternly.

     He sighed. I looked at Aphmau and she tried to stop Laurance with a look but then she saw me looking at her.

     Laurance told me about how they were willing to risk me and Eyanne out here just so for them to survive. So we could distract the shadow knights so they could escape and hide.

     I laughed at his answer. "You do realize that Eyanne is dead, right?"
