The universe had fates fixed. Maybe, or maybe not. In the end, they had to work themselves to get out of the tests life threw on them. Sun and Moon are completely opposite. Well, maybe similar in some ways but it doesn't change the fact they can't exist without each other.
To clear it out, Moon and Sun had been best friends since Sun was like four, fourteen years of friendship is not something to be taken lightly. Sun was, obviously, the brightest among anyone while Moon would usually prefer to stay more reserved among other people. They knew pretty much everything about each other, except the extra personal parts.
Now, they're in a camp with Moon's friends for the holidays and there was no way Moon wouldn't bring Sun there as well.
It's the night of the first day of the camp and Moon was with his friends at the fireplace inside the hotel. Talking and laughing with his friends, he looked to his side to find Sun gone. His smile faded as he excused himself from his friends.
He walked out of the apartment, a strange feeling of concern on his face as he began to search for Sun. For some reason, Sun had kind of been avoiding Moon. He didn't talk to him as much as before. It's not like he avoided him totally but it's more like… he was acting different.
After searching for a few minutes, Moon spotted Sun near a small river next to a tree. At least, Moon was thankful that Sun could be easily seen because of his height, otherwise, as stubborn as Sun was, he'd easily have gotten lost in crowds.
He walked towards Sun and realized what he was doing. A big smile took over his face as he realized that Sun was taking pictures of the Moon. Moon stood there, shaking his head and staring at the taller in front. Before Moon could make Sun aware of his presence, Sun was turning around to get the picture from a better angle and saw Moon standing there.
Sun's eyes slightly widened as he immediately stepped backwards. Then, as soon as he realized that Moon was really standing there, his eyes fell to the ground. “Ow… p-phi Moon..,” he stuttered out.
Moon smiled slowly, raising his eyebrow a bit. “Sun, what's going on?” He asked and paused for a second before continuing. “It's late, everyone's at the fireplace, and you're here, alone, taking pictures of the moon.”
Sun moved a bit in hesitation. “Well,.. it's pretty,” he said, his voice very silent as if he was afraid anyone would hear.
Moon laughed and gently placed his index finger on the corner of Sun's chin, pushing it upwards to look into his eyes. “Prettier than the moonlight reflected in your eyes?” He asked and watched as an instant blush took over Sun's cheeks. “Let's go. Everyone's waiting for us.”
Sun immediately brought his head back down, looking around almost in panic.
The genuine little smile on Moon's face immediately faded. They had always been best friends who flirted with each other to some point. Did he cross any lines? “Sun, what's wrong?” He asked, his voice gentle, concern evident in his tone of speaking. “Am I making you uncomfortable?” He asked again.
Sun hesitated again before speaking. “N-no.”
But Moon didn't like the hesitancy that was in his voice. He needed to know why Sun had started to act so differently all of a sudden. He stepped closer to Sun and held his chin upright, locking his eyes into Sun's again. He searched for any sign of discomfort in the taller’s eyes, he kept on searching for the reason of Sun's mysterious behaviour.
Not finding any type of negative reaction, Moon sighed and spoke up. “Why are you avoiding me, Sun? Did I do anything wrong?” He asked.
Sun seemed a bit taken aback by the sudden question. “I-I’m… not.”
“Really?” Moon asked, a mischievous little smile took on his face as he understood he might have an idea of what Sun seemed so hesitant about. “But you have been very distant from me lately,” he replied, the tone of his voice a bit teasy this time.
Sun tried to act normal as he hesitated before looking towards the tree behind Moon. “I… it's- it's not what you think,” he suddenly let out and immediately regretted saying that.
Moon's mischievous smile became even clearer as he took a step forward again. “Not what I think?” He repeated, one of his eyebrows raising.
“I-just forget it phi. Let's go back.”
Moon shook his head. “What if I don't want to forget it?” He mumbled. “Tell me, what exactly am I supposed to think?”
“I… don't know.”
“Liar,” Moon accused, the smile on his turning more genuine now but Sun still had his head down. It's a shame he couldn't see that smile. “Let me guess,” he teased.
“Phi…” Sun tried to speak up but couldn't form words.
A small smile formed on Moon's face at Sun's attempt to find words. “Shut up,” Moon ordered but in a playful way. He moved closer to Sun, keeping a hand on his cheek. “Are you… avoiding me because you like me, Sun?” He blurted out.
“Phi Moon… it's… getting late,” Sun murmured, trying to avoid the question.
“Nuh-uh. Don't change the topic, Khun Sun,” Moon said, grabbing Sun's wrist gently. “Answer my question.”
“Phi Moon…” Sun whined desperately.
“Come on, it's not that hard. Just a yes or no question,” he paused. “Do you like me or not?”
Sun stilled in his place and closed his eyes for a few seconds. Taking a deep breath, he collected himself together. Maybe it was the time. He then opened his eyes again and this time, looked directly into Moon's eyes. “Yes,” he murmured, making sure his voice was audible and sure. Because he knew there was no point in hiding that anymore.
A smile took over Moon's lips as he ruffled Sun's hair. “Say it again,” he teased.
“Phi Moon!” Sun whined and hit Moon's arm lightly, a blush already taking over his cheeks.
Moon laughed. “Was that a ‘yes, I like you’ hit or a ‘go away’ hit?” He paused, looking back into Sun's eyes. His eyes glowing in the moonlight was the most beautiful thing ever. “Cause I don't think I quite caught that.”
“Phi Moon…” Sun whined again, a sulky pout forming on his lips. “When will you stop teasing me?” He shook his hand in the air, as if annoyed.
“When you'll stop being so cute when you're flustered.” Moon took a step backwards and laughed before staring up at Sun's face, as if observing how cute he looked. He booped the tip of Sun's nose with his finger.
“I'm not cute!” Sun whined again, crossing his arms and rolling his eyes playfully.
A bright smile took over Moon's face. “Liar.” he shook his head and then reached out to gently take Sun's wrist. “You're the cutest thing I've ever seen when you're trying to act tough.”
Sun pouted and stepped backwards a bit, making his eyes bigger than usual. “You're mean…” he murmurs.
“And you're adorable.” Moon laughed, poking Sun's cheeks with his index finger.
“Let's go back, phi. They're waiting for us.” Sun pushed, a shy smile on his face as he attempted to hide the redness on his face.
Mon shrugged and laughed as he took Sun's hand and linked it under his arms. “Fine, fine. But you're walking with me.” He smiled, guiding the way.
Sun didn't bother paying attention to the touch. He had always known that Moon's love language was physical touch most of the time. They'd cling to each other all the time usually. So Sun walked after Moon in steady steps, knowing he had longer legs and could catch up easily.
The friends were already inside the hotel, at the dinner table by the time they were there. Watching the two come back, almost all of Moon's friend's faces turned into grins as they wooed, watching Moon's hand which was wrapped around Sun's waist. “It's about time you two lovebirds came back.”
A deep blush spread across Sun's face as he looked down. “Phi Moon, they're teasing me because of you now! Get your hands off of me,” he whined, brushing Moon's hand off of his waist.
“Or what? You'll run away again?” Moon asked and all his friends burst out laughing. Even before any of that happened, everyone around them thought they were a couple. “I think the others are enjoying this more than I am,” he murmured near Sun's ear.
“I won't let you sleep next to me,” Sun pushed, his lips still slightly poured as if sulking.
Moon laughed out and gripped the side of Sun's waist again, dragging him closer. “You'll cave by midnight,” he murmured near his ear but this time, still loud enough for everyone to hear.
Sun's eyes slightly widened as he hit Moon's arm again. “Phi Moon!” He whined.
Moon scratched the back of his head as he looked at the other in amusement. “You know I'll just pin you down like last time if you keep hitting me.” He turned his head to face Sun completely before mimicking the actual of pining Sun against the wall, raising his hand up in the air.
Sun's eyes widened even more, crimson red taking over his whole face and ears as he whined out, “Shut up! There was no last time! Stop making things up!” And it was true. There was no last time. None of that truly happened… yet. But Moon loved teasing Sun, so much.
Moon stepped back, acting as if he didn't believe Sun's words one bit. “Fine. If you say so,” he murmured. “You were whining for me even in your sleep.” Now, that was true. There were times when Sun in the middle of the night called Moon's name in his sleep.
Sun's eyes widened even more as he gulped, he didn't think Moon actually knew about that. He tried to brush the subject off. “Don't believe him. He's just rambling,” he said to Moon's friends who just nodded, enjoying their bickering and not caring if that is true or not.
“Liar,” Moon accused again but gladly, didn't take the topic any further.
“There's nothing between us,” Moon said in a mocking way as he took a seat at the table. Sun sat right next to him as he said that but he knew no one would take what he said seriously.
“Really now?” Cha asked in a teasing way. “Then why did you look for him because he kept ignoring you?”
Moon just shrugged his shoulder and took over a smile, his eyes locked on Sun.
“Let's eat now. I'm hangry,” Sun suddenly blurted out. The word mistakenly left his mouth. Hangry… it was still true though. Moon's teasing was annoying and maybe angering him a little bit.
Everyone in the room laughed out loud as they watched Sun's pout get deeper. “Hangry? I'll ‘eat’ you up later then,” Moon pressed between his laughs. Everyone else just stared at Sun and giggled at his cuteness.
“Phi!!” Sun hit Moon's arm again, hiding his face between his palms.
Moon laughed at his cuteness again, dragging Sun's palms down from his face, revealing the pouting, embarrassed face. “You're too easy to tease, dear.”
Sun puffed his cheeks and looked at Moon with kind of shining eyes. To which, Moon felt like he was melting. “Just eat. You're making them think I'm weak,” Sun murmured in a sad voice on purpose.
Everyone around him just awed at the moment, watching them eagerly. Moon just stared at Sun in amusement while everyone around them started whispering to each other. “Baby Sun is so easily flustered,” Cha murmured to another one of Moon's friends. “Isn't he sweet?” Moon joined the conversation and asked Cha mockingly.
Sun crinkled his eyebrows, sulking while looking at Moon's friends around him. “Come on! Stop gossiping about me!” He whined loudly. Then he turned to look at Moon. “You too! You're being too much!” He raised a finger at Moon. To which, Moon pretended to be afraid by leaning back before laughing out loud.
Moon put on a fake innocent face and fluttered his lashes, looking up at Sun. “Me? Too much? Never!” He defended himself and pouted. After Sun gave him a stare for a few seconds, he put Sun's finger down, trying to maintain a usual posture before focusing on the food in front of him. “Maybe if you weren't so cute when you blush, I'd stop teasing,” he murmured by himself but Sun heard it.
“Again!” Sun shouted.
Moon just shrugged, looking at his friends and asked “what?” innocently.
And that fake innocent face made Sun even more mad. “PHI MOON!!” He yelled. “I'm done with you! Can you just stop talking for once and eat peacefully?” He paused for a second. “I'm so hangry,” he murmured to himself and put a piece of food in his mouth. This time, he said that word on purpose.
Moon tried to hold back his laughter but when he looked around him, his friends were laughing so hard they were falling off of their chairs which made him laugh out loud as well. “A-angry…and H-hangry… Sun's so cuuuute!!” He said between laughter and made a sound that almost sounded like a squeal.
Trying to laugh with food in his mouth, Sun started choking vigorously. Moon stepped forward and patted his back a few times, still laughing. “Are you okay?” He asked and laughed even harder when he noticed the way Sun gave him a glare. “You're choking! Do you need water?” He asked, not even trying to be serious.
Sun nodded aggressively and he laughed even harder (smh). Moon then looked at his friends for a second then back at the choking figure in front of him. “Should I…?” He grabbed the water bottle on the opposite side of table and requested, “Ask nicely.”
Done with his games, Sun snatched the water bottle from his hands aggressively and started drinking the water, finally finding some relief. He placed the bottle on the table.
Moon just sat there, acting mock shocked. “He's so violent when he's hangry…” he complained to his friends and his friends laughed out even more.
Sun gave him a death stare and poured, crossing his arms together. “Shut up! You're so mean!” He paused and looked back at Moon. “I'm out here dying and you're just laughing with your friends.”
“He's so dramatic.” Moon laughed again. “He acts like he's dying when he's just a little hangry…”
Sun's pout became more clear and he looked away. “Hey! I was seriously choking!” He exclaimed.
But Moon laughed it off again. “Oh, please. You were barely even coughing,” He paused and looked at his friends. “You're just being a dramatic little bitch.”
Sun's eyes widened. “Did you just call me a bitch?” The spoon from his hand fell on the plate, his expression turning serious.
