Mode of dressing.
As for dressing, girls and boys have different modes of dressing.
The male are strictly forbidden from dressing in female clothes or anything that resembles the female wear.
The same thing happens to the females. They are strictly forbidden from wearing male wears or anything that resembles the male clothes.
Though there have been altering and now the females are dressing in trousers and tights and leggings, they are made with difference from those of men. You'll easily notice the one that are made for females, they are mostly colourful and have sparkling stones and chains unlike those for males that are made plain.
Manners of dressing:
1) we are taught to shake the clothe and remove anything that can be harmful and hanging on the clothe.
2) we are taught that when we start dressing up, we should start with the right side first then the left side.... example: when wearing a trouser, we are told to start putting it on the right leg then followed by the left leg.
3) wear warm dress in cold weather and cool dress in hot weather.
4) put on a clean and presentable clothes.
5) the dressing shouldn't expose the private areas for both the male and female.
6) we should NEVER wear clothes that are meant for the opposite sex.
7) it should not be transparent.
Now we'll see the different dress code for male and female.
Dressing code for male:
1) we are strictly forbidden from wearing silk or gold. This is because the two are meant to be a decor for the females.
2) the garment should not go below the ankles.
3) the males are advised and preferred to wear white clothes though they are allowed to wear any colour as long as it's not too feminine.
4) it should not resemble the clothing of the females, like a skirt or dress.
Kids wear:
Kids are allowed to wear any clothes. As long as boys are wearing boy's clothes and girls are wearing girl's clothes. We are usually brought up following these customs since early ages of five or six years old. This makes it easy for the kids when they grow up, they take it to be something easy since they've done it since birth or early childhood.
The girls are made to wear long dressed to get used to them at an early stage of life, they wear the head scarf covering their heads and grow up getting very attached to it. As for the àbaya, most girls start wearing them when they are the age of six or seven years since they come in different sizes for different age.
As for the boys, they are made to wear male clothing at an early stage of life. They grow up wearing the same way.
What happens when you don't follow the culture and decide to go against it??:
It's very rare to find someone who's dressing against these speculated customs since they are installed in us at a very early age. Even if you resist wearing them at that small age, you'll always be the "odd one out" since everyone is wearing like that. As for those who were brought up like that then later in life they go live amongst other cultures as they go for studies, then when they come back and are now living that culture, them the elders in your family will be talking to you severally, the elders I'm the community will call you when they see you, they'll talk to you about going again culture, and eventually you'll just be back since that's the way everyone including no one lives and wears .
Feel free to comment and share with us all about how people dress up in your culture and if there are any specific rules you have to follow when dressing up.
Don't forget to vote and share the story.
Love you all ❤️
