Chapter 4 : Feelings

♡ Jessica Woods ♡

I thought 'But don't think I'll be lenient to you.' said by Jace was a phrase that every strict leader used to tell just to portray themselves intimidating but no, I was wrong.

For the past two days, Jace ignored me more than he ever did in the last two years and behaving like we never had a pleasant conversation which we had a few days ago.

I told everything to Louise after the conversation I had with Jace and when I finished, she was smiling like a maniac and instead of complaining about his attitude, she said. "I'd ship you with Jace if he's not the father of my baby."

"I wouldn't let you ship me with Jace even if he's not the father of your fictional baby." I retorted.
----

Holding my books tightly, I descended the stairs and ran towards the empty hallway as I was already seven minutes late for my maths class. Mr.Dunne would definitely humiliate me in front of the whole class if I said some lame excuses for being late. Again.

When I turned to the left side, my chest collided with a large, tall figure which made my books drop to the floor as my butt hit the floor with a loud thud.

Ouch!

I looked at my scattered books laying on the floor and about to bark at the person who was bending down and taking his belongings he dropped but when I realized he was none other than Samuel, I gasped inaudibly.

"Are you blind!?" he roared, looking down at me and I flinched by his words. When I didn't reply anything, he started to walk past me without lending me a hand.

I sighed and furrowed my eyebrows when my eyes caught something unfamiliar lying on the floor and I grabbed it as I assumed it might be his stuff. It was a black coloured case of his reading glasses.

"Wait!" I called out and looked at him over my shoulder, still sitting on the floor and he turned around, groaning. "What?"

"Here." I extended the case towards his direction and when he realized, it was his, he slowly approached me and took it back, standing in front of me.

Then, instead of leaving, he fiddled with his case as if he was arguing with himself for something and I didn't bother to stand up as I was too busy in admiring how attractive he was when he was in confusion but suddenly he turned away and walked towards the direction where he came from and in less than no time, he stopped in his tracks and slowly peeked a glance at me over his shoulder and when he saw I was smiling at him, he sighed loudly, turning around again.

He marched towards me and held out his hand at me and tilted his head in a 'take-it-and-stand-up' gesture. I glanced at his palm then at his face as I was trying to process what was I witnessing right now. I gulped before placing my palm on his and his long fingers wrapped it as he got me up in a swift motion which blew up my mini skirt a little.

Trying my best to hide my blush, I brushed the dust away from my knees and was about to take my books from the floor but straightened up myself when I heard his voice.

"Your clumsiness is one of the reasons I hate you." he cringed dramatically and waited for my comeback.

I looked up at him and realized that he was a bit shorter than Jace but still much taller than me.

"I don't care whether you hate me or love me, I still know that you think about me." I blurted out and instantly regretted my words and glanced at him to see his reaction.

He didn't hold any expression for awhile and didn't bother to deny my statement as if I caught him off guard. Then he glanced at his watch and glanced at me back before walking away.

See.. Samuel too has feelings for me!!
------

"So guys, I hope everyone practiced their oaths and ready for tomorrow's investiture ceremony and oh yeah, check whether the measurements of your blazers are correct." the teacher incharge of prefects board advicing us and I leaned back on my seat and was too busy on thinking about today's incident with Samuel.

I was glad that I didn't get any detention from Mr.Dunne for being late for the class.

But anyhow I should stay after-school because of the rehearsal we were going to have for the seventy eighth time and I was irritated of seeing the same faces and doing the same things again and again.

"Ok guys!" she clapped her hands. "Now Jace will call your name and you could collect your blazer from the president of our school." and with that she exited the room, placing her phone on her ear.

Ryan. Oh, I missed him.

He was sitting on the edge of his chair near the keyboard stand and writing something furiously on the paper and Jace was standing beside him, having a chat with our school costume designer.

Everyone started to go and collect their blazers from the costume designer one-by-one when Jace called out their names. I closed my eyes as I started to get excited about how he'd pronounce my name when my turn comes.

"How dare you say like that to me??" the familiar voice got my whole mind back to reality and everyone turned their gazes towards the screaming girl who was my bestfriend, Louise.

She was unbuttoning her blazer buttons furiously and the costume designer rubbing Louise's shoulders to calm herself down but Louise glared at her before turning her glare towards Ryan.

Jace ran towards him and Ryan huffed, putting his pen down on the table.

"What happened?" Jace asked quietly looking at Ryan and Louise, back and forth.

"Nothing." Ryan shrugged.

"Nothing?" Louise spat at him and he stood up. "Insulting my boobs is nothing?"

"Oh shit." Jace muttered and glared at Ryan. "Why man?"

"I didn't say anything offensive." he raised his hands up in surrender.

"'Your flat chest is making us even' is not offensive?" Louise exclaimed.

What?? Who does Ryan think he is?

I hoped that students in the back seats couldn't hear what they were talking about unless the yelling part of Louise.

Suddenly Jace eyes searched the front row and in no time his eyes met mine.

"Do something." he mouthed at me.

I rolled my eyes, standing up from my seat and marched towards them. Still unacknowledging my presence, Louise and Ryan were aruguing like kids.

"It's true right?" Ryan nudged Jace and Jace gave him a 'stop-this-nonsense' look.

"My boobs aren't flat okay?" Louise argued and I stepped forward, grabbing her arm. "Stop it, Lou."

She turned around furiously and when she saw me, tears started to well up in her eyes which drove me insane.

Now my mind is planning various ways to kill Ryan!

I pulled her to my side and grabbed her blazer from the costume designer and gave Ryan the best death glare I could muster up.

"I didn't do-" I cut him off.

"If she has small boobs then why are you lookin' at them?" I asked as calm as I could, raising my eye brow at him and the four of them stared at me in extremely shocked as if I told them I was going to die in the next minute.

I could see Louise's smile through the corner of my eyes and the costume designer and Jace gave me a 'woah' look.

"Hey! I didn't stare at- I mean, uh-"

"Enough guys!" Jace interrupted. "Louise, collect your blazer from her and get back to your seat."

Louise did so and I thought she'd be asking Ryan to apologize as he owed her but she looped her arm through mine triumphantly and turned around to leave.

"Wait." Jace called out and we turned back again, still linking our arms with each other and Ryan snorted, leaning on the wall. "Lesbian couple."

I decided to ignore that comment as Jace glanced down at Ryan's notepad before looking up at me. "You're next."

I nodded and glanced at Louise and she understood what I was going to say so she let go of my hand and whispered, motioning to Ryan. "Kill him for me." and I giggled as she walked away, glaring at all of them.

I turned towards them and quickly noticed that Jace was checking me out which made me a bit uncomfortable.

"Thank God, you have average-sized boobs." Jace sighed and my mouth fell open.

"Excuse me?"

"Don't worry, he'd be nice to you." Jace informed and Ryan glared at him.

"I'd be nice to her even if she has flat chest." Ryan admitted and I resisted the urge of saying 'awe'.

"Whatever." Jace rolled his eyes and the costume designer glanced around in irritation as if she was searching our teacher-incharge.

"Just be nice." Jace told quietly.

"to everyone. Okay?" he added and Ryan rolled his eyes.

"Okay dad." he mocked and Jace groaned, walking past me without sparing a second glance at me.
------

"Jessie, I'm sorry. Because of this crappy duty, I couldn't give you a ride home." Louise apologized, holding both of my hands tightly and I laughed. "That's okay Lou. My dad will pick me up if I explain the situation."

"But what if he's in a hire?" she asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Don't worry. I can manage." I assured her, zipping my bag and glanced around the auditorium. Everyone was decorating the auditorium except the persons who got no duty. Jace said us to leave as we didn't have anything to do and we eventually accept it and I have no idea how could I go home by myself.

"Louise! C'mere!" Leah shouted from the stage and Louise glanced at me as if she was waiting for my permission.

"Go go go." I shooed her and she jogged towards the stage and turned around at me, outstretching the pinky finger and thumb and placing it on her ear and mouthed. "Call me when you go home."

I nodded, smiling at her and headed outside, hanging my bag over my shoulder. I pushed the door while someone was pulling it from outside.

"Hey! You leaving?" Jace asked, as soon as our eyes met, holding the door handle.

"No, just came to welcome you." I retorted and he rolled his eyes.

"This is not the way you should reply to your HP." he stated.

HP? Oh yeah, Head Prefect.

"Then don't ask dumb questions like this." I groaned. "You're the one who said me to leave, aren't you?"

"Fine, fine. Did you get your blazer?" he asked and I nodded.

"Good. You know the dress code for tomorrow right?" he questioned and I nodded again.

"Okay." he said, walking past me.

"Okay." I mimicked, scrunching my nose as I made my way towards the parking lot.

I leaned on the entrance door frame of my school and took my phone out of my pocket and dialed my dad's number.

"Sweetheart?" he answered and I smiled as I didn't get much chances to hear that voice as I always meet him before 7 a.m and after 8 p.m.

"Dad, will you pick me up? I'm-"

"What about your friend?" dad asked, cutting me off and I sighed.

"She needs to stay after-school."

"Oh." he paused. "Honey, I'm in a hire but wait, let me ask them." he told and before I could reply, he put me on hold. I waited, twirling the strand of my hair.

"They said that they have no problem so tell me where you are." he said and I smiled, thanking God mentally.

"I'm at my school entrance dad." I informed and he said okay before hanging up.

A few minutes later, the familiar Ford escape car approached my school gate and I ran towards it when my dad rolled down the window and waved at me.

"Hey dad." I greeted and froze on my place when I saw the persons who were sitting on the backseat, through the window.

Oh my freaking God!

What on earth is Samuel and Natasha doing in my dad's car?

"Melissa?" Samuel exclaimed at me and I furrowed my eye brows in confusion.

Who the hell is Melissa?

"It's Jessica." Natasha corrected and Samuel nodded in acknowledgement.

Samuel Collins, My crush, who I assumed as my love of my life too, couldn't remeber my name properly.

"You know each other?" my dad asked unsurely and Samuel gave me a shall-I-spill-the-tea? look.

"Yeah, they're my, uh.." I trailed off not knowing what to say.

"She's our friend." Natasha replied flatly which was a total lie and my dad nodded, smiling at her through the rear view mirror which she failed to notice.

"So, I hope you both don't mind to share your seat with my daughter as someone who came earlier has spilled some liquid only God-knows-what on my passenger seat." my dad rambled but it didn't made Samuel to break the eye contact.

"Sir.." dad called him again as no one didn't reply anything.

"Is she your daughter?" Samuel asked instead, pointing at me and my dad nodded, smiling a little. "Yes sir."

"Oh." was all he could say.

My dad waited for their reply but Samuel was gazing at me without blinking as it was new news to him.

"Sir?" my dad cleared his throat as he caught Samuel eyeing me intently.

Does this situation get more awkward?

"So, can she sit bes-" I cut my dad off.

"No dad, I'll sit in the passen-"

"That's okay. You can sit with us." Samuel stated nonchalantly and glanced at Natasha. "Right Tash?"

"Yeah, yeah. Come, sit beside me." she told but added quickly when she realized how possessive it sounded. "If you want."

I nodded at them and Natasha moved to the corner when she realized I was going to sit beside Samuel. I opened the right side of the car back door awkwardly and Samuel scooted closer to Natasha and tapped the small space beside him.

He must be the Hulk with olive skin tone.

I slowly sat down and closed the door and glanced at him as he crossed his arms over his chest and clenched his legs together as he was so cautious not to touch me and I turned the other side facing the window as Natasha was typing something on her phone while Samuel was staring ahead, ignoring me.

When my dad sped up the car, his knee touched my bare thigh which made me curse louder. "Holyshit."

"Jessica Woods. Language please." my dad faked cough, glaring at me through the rearview mirror and I smiled apologetically before looking up at Samuel who was smirking cockily. Samuel glanced at the rearview mirror and when he noticed my dad was focusing ahead, he leaned down to my ear.

"Do I affect you.." Samuel whispered, slowly tracing his fingers on the side of my thigh and I shivered. "..this much?"

I looked at Natasha but she was still typing something on her phone which made me sigh in relief and I slowly gripped Samuel's hand and placed it on his lap.

"Don't." I mouthed and he nodded, turning away from me and the smirk was still playing on his lips as he rested his hand on Natasha's lap, leaning over her.

Don't you dare make me jealous, Mr.Collins.
