Kicked Out
I was sitting in my room reading Psalms chapter 30 when my phone started ringing. It was my best friend Jewel. I smiled as I pressed the answer button and placed my blue iPhone to my ear.
*phone conversation*
R: Hey Jewel what's up
J: Nothing much just wanted to ask if you wanted to go Christmas shopping next Tuesday
R: Yeah that would be great
J: Ok I also wanted to ask when you are coming down to Nashville. The guys really want to meet you
R: Um I think I'll be going down to Nashville around Wednesday at 2:00pm. I could be wrong though so don't take my word for it. I'm just estimating
J: Ok so you are going to be here in three days
R: Yeah only if my plans don't change then yeah, I should be down there soon
J: Ok see you in three days, bye
R: Bye
*phone conversation end*
I hung up and continued reading. I was about halfway through the next chapter when my little sister, Ava, walked in. I quickly hid my Bible as she came over. You see my family are devoted atheists and if they saw me with a Bible they would kick me out.
"What was that?" She asked.
"Nothing" I responded a little to quickly. She shrugged and started walking away, then she immediately turned and ran to my covers and tried pulling them up. I tried my hardest to keep it down, but since she takes karate, she is stronger than me. She successfully pulled the covers back and saw my Bible. She covered her mouth and I looked at her in fear.
"Please don't tell anyone" I pleaded. She then ran out of my room and I knew that I was doomed so I started pacing my room. After a few minutes my door was forced open.
"Riley Annabelle Johnson, what is this about hearing that you have a bible" my dad yelled. He looked on my bed and saw it sticking out from the covers. He grabbed it and walked out of the room. 'Oh no' I thought and ran after him. As he was approaching the burning firewood, I latched onto his arm pleading that he wouldn't burn it. He snatched his arm from my grip, turned around and slapped me. I fell to the floor, holding my, now, burning cheek. I stared in sadness as my dad threw my only bible into the fire. I screamed as I heard the pages flaming away and turning into ashes.
"Riley we told you that you shouldn't be reading this garbage! It will put stupid things into your head" my dad shouted to me. He walked past me and to my room. Probably to get my phone cause I have a Bible app on it. He came back out and put my phone on the floor in front of me. I looked up at him, then back towards my phone. I reached out for it, but stopped immediately as my dad stomped on it, breaking it in half. I started crying even more as I sunk lower onto the floor.
"I can not have a daughter who believes that she can be saved through someone who is dead" my dad yelled. I stood up and lifted my head to face him.
"He is not dead. My Lord is risen and sitting on the right hand of God!" I shouted, but instantly regretted it when I received another slap to my cheek.
"Get out!" He yelled again. I turned around and trudged to my room and started packing everything. I heard footsteps, then they stopped at my door.
"No! Don't take anything, just get out!" I heard my dad yell. I looked up at him with a surprised look.
"But dad it's to cold. I'll freeze if I go outside" I told him.
"I don't care if you freeze. You aren't my daughter" he said. I looked down as I stood up and started walking towards the door. I opened it and a gust of freezing Iowa wind came at me with full force. I slowly walked until I heard a slam behind me. I turned and saw the door was closed. I slowly turned away as I tried to keep myself warm. I started walking down the oh so quiet street as I sent prayers to God, pleading that he would help me in any way possible.
