Chapter 8: Chrissy: A Friend in Trouble

I never felt so happy at any time of my life. I felt safe and happy with Sam. He was so cute, he was my bunny boy. But something was bugging me when I went home. Where was my father? He wasn't home. I saw a note left on the counter that said, "I'm off starting my new test." I started to get scared. I knew that the new 'test' for the Yakuza had something to deal with Taurtis. I called Sam immediately.

"Hello?" he said. "This is Sam."

"Sam!" I yelled, scared. "Taurtis is in trouble! Father's starting his new test, and it has to deal with Taurtis! I think Chan's in on it too!"

"Alright, alright Chrissy," Sam said. "Calm down."

"But he's in trouble! We have to get to the other town! Is there any way we can get on the train?"

"No. I just got a notice. Pete can't operate anything for a few days because he's gone madly drunk because of Pepe and Patty."

"Then how can we get to Taurtis?"

"We can't. We'll have to see what happens tomorrow." I started to cry.

"What if Father does something..." My voice trailed off.

"Chrissy," Sam said softly. "I know how you feel. More than you do. He's my best friend. But there's nothing we can do. If I could, I would walk, but the roads have been blocked off. You understand?"

"Yes," I said. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye."

"Bye."

The next day, I didn't go to the store. I didn't talk to Patty or anyone. I know I love Sam, and I shouldn't avoid him, but I was so scared since I started the spy-ish mission that father would hurt someone. I hoped he hadn't.

I got on the train and sat away from everybody, keeping my head down. I wore a hoodie over my school uniform because it was cold, so I kept my face hidden.

I got off the train later, still hiding my face. I only took my hoodie off when I got to my locker, which was beside J the Star's. He turned to me.

"Hey, you're the new girl, right?" he asked.

"I guess you could say that," I said.

"Why do you look so down?"

"Family problems."

"Isn't your father a businessman?"

"Yes, but he's kinda distant, you know?"

"I know what you're saying. Nice to meet you!" He shook my hand and walked away.

I shut my locker and walked to class. Mrs. Okami called roll and told us to sit. Then she asked if we had finished our paragraph that was homework. Everyone nodded.

"Well then," Okami said. "Chrissy, why don't you come up here and share?"

I nervously walked up to the front of the class with a my of paper.

"My f-favorite character is ___ from ___," I said. "I like ___ because ___." (A/N: Fill in what you want here. I wasn't in the mood) Mrs. Okami smiled.

"Thank you Chrissy," she said. "You can sit down now." I walked back to my seat quickly. A few other people shared, and then the bell rang. We all left the classroom.

While everyone went right, I went left. I wanted to skip lunch. There's a place at the end of the hallway that is supposed to be a floor-to-ceiling window, but the glass part isn't there. I sat on the ground, letting my legs dangle out the window.

I felt a hand on my back. I looked up. It was Sam. He sat down beside me.

"Are you avoiding me?" he asked.

"Is Taurtis here today?" I asked.

"You're avoiding my question."

"Is Taurtis here today?"

"No, he isn't. But Chan is. Now answer my question."

"I'm just scared."

"Hey, look at me." I turned my head. "Don't be scared. We won't let anything happen to Taurtis. Alright?" I nodded and held back the tears that were waiting to pour. Then I leaned against Sam's shoulder. I started humming a song. Sam put his arm around my shoulder, and we both smiled.
