I woke up to screaming. I quickly jumped out of bed and ran towards the screaming. It was coming from Grian's part of the apartment.
I walked in to see Sam pinning Grian against the wall with a knife in his hand, except it wasn't Sam. His bunny ears had turned black at the bottom and his eyes were dark. He was grinning maliciously.
"Sam!" I yelled. "What're you doing?"
He turned. "I thought you knew Taurtis," he said in a deep voice. "I'm Insanity. Sam isn't here anymore."
My mouth dropped open. Already? How?
"Taurtis..." Grian said hoarsely. Insanity was grabbed his neck. "Help..."
"Let go of him!" I yelled at Insanity, lunging at him. I knocked him over.
Insanity laughed, raising his hand. I looked up and saw his knife inches from my head.
"Taurtis! Move!" Grian yelled. I rolled out of the way just time. Insanity brought his knife down on nothing. He growled.
"I will get you," he said, snarling.
"Taurtis, we have to go!" I heard Grian. I felt a hand pull me up. We started running. Out of the apartment, out of the building, as far away as we could go.
"Is he still behind us?" I asked.
"I don't know, but I didn't want to look!"
"Me neither."
We kept running. Then I yelled, "Look! The train! It must be morning! Pete's opening the doors!"
"There's no time!" Grian yelled. "We have to keep running."
"I'm coming to get you," I heard Insanity say.
"He's behind us!" I screamed.
"I told you! We have to keep running!"
"But we'll run out of breath soon!"
"Oh well! We have to get to Okami and Rowan!"
"What about Chrissy?"
"Fine! Let's go to Chan's."
We kept running. We ran in circles and lopped back, hoping that we'd loose Insanity.
"I think we lost him," Grian said. I nodded.
"Let's get to Chan's."
We ran to Chan's house and knocked on the door. Chrissy answered.
"Hey Taurtis," she said. "Hey Grian. What's wrong?"
"It's Sam!" I whisper-yelled. "Insanity's taken over!"
"What?"
"Yeah," Grian said. "We were running from him. I think we lost him. He tried to kill me last night!"
"Oh my gosh. Come in. Quickly."
We went inside. Chrissy shut the door and locked it.
Chan came down the stairs. She looked at us, confused.
"Why are they here?" she asked. "It's still dark outside! And it's a Saturday!"
"Sam's gone insane!" I told her. "He tried to kill Grian last night! He was chasing us, but we think we lost him." I plopped down on the couch, tired,.
"Taurtis, are you okay?" Chan said, sitting next to me.
I remembered what Ellen told me. If you let Sam go insane, you will have lost your game.
"What does that even mean?" I yelled angrily.
"What?"
"What Ellen said! 'If you let Sam go insane, you will have lost your game.' What's the game?! Why would I loose it?! Ugh!"
"Taurtis, are you okay?" Chan repeated, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"No. Of course not! My best friend just went insane and tried to kill my other best friend! How do you think I feel?" (A/N: yay! Taurtis is using Italics now! :D Chrissy's not the only one!)
I sighed. I put my head in my hands. Why did this have to happen to us? Why did this have to happen to Sam? This wasn't fair. This wasn't right.
"It's his fault!" I yelled.
"Who?" Chan asked.
"Karu!" I looked at Chrissy. "Our...father."
"How?"
"He did that to Sam! He wants to kill him! He knows how dangerous he can be! He thinks there's no other way."
Chrissy sat down beside me.
"We just need a plan," she said. "We have to stop Insanity without hurting Sam." She smiled, which I knew meant she had a plan. She looked at Chan. "Do you happen to have any speakers?"
"I have three," Chan said. "And five boxes of extension cords."
"Great! Go get them!" Chan fan off. Chrissy looked at us. "Can you two sing?"
"Uh, maybe," Grian said. "We all took chorus in middle school."
"It was Sam's idea!" I said.
"Amazing," Chrissy said. "Now come on, you two need to learn a song."
~
We spent the rest of the day learning the song Chrissy showed us and setting up the speakers. One was placed in front of the school, one was set a mile or so away, and another one in between. All the speakers were linked with the millions of extension cords Chan had. They hooked up to and outlet in the school.
"Have you memorized your lines yet?" Chrissy asked me and Grian.
"Yes Mom," I said. "We did our homework."
"Ha ha. Very funny. Just remember that your friend's life is at stake."
"Had to bring it up," Grian mumbled as Chrissy walked away.
"I can hear you!"
I sighed. "What happens if we don't save Sam?"
"Don't think like that." Grian put his hand on my shoulder. "Of course we'll save him."
"But Chrissy hasn't even told us the whole plan! Just our part of the plan! Don't you have doubts too?"
"Yeah, but-"
"What about Yuki? What about Karu? What if one of us doesn't make it?" I felt a single tear fall down my face. "What if Chrissy dies..."
"We'll make it. I'm sure we will."
"You're just saying that."
"Listen. We'll be fine. Let's just memorize our lines before Chrissy gets back."
"Okay."
~A/N: short chapter, I know. But the next one will be so worth it. Stay tuned!~
