Chapter 14: Taurtis: Talking it Out

Sam was thrown out of the water. A hand from underwater pushed him up onto the side. Me and Grian grabbed him. Sam's rescuer pulled herself out. Her familiar pink hair was drenched so she twisted some water out of it before she got up.

It was Yuki. She walked over to Sam and whispered in his ear, "You better thank me." Sam sighed as he coughed up water.

"Thanks Yuki," he said. She smirked. As she walked to the back of the line I heard her mumble, "Stupid bunny boy."

Chrissy got out of the water and walked over to Sam.

"Are you okay?" she asked. Sam nodded. "I'm sorry. I could've helped you, but all those people nearly pushed me off the edge. I couldn't see you fall." She glared at the classmates around her. "Which one of you did this? That's just stupid! You don't do that to your classmate, no matter how long he takes! It's just mean, and rude! How would you like it if he did it to you, and you couldn't swim well! You wouldn't like it, would you? No! So don't do it yourself!" She placed her hands on her hips, daring anyone to challenge her.

"Calm down Chrissy," I said, pulling her back. "It's not that big of a deal."

"Not that big of a deal? Not that big of a deal? That was serious, Taurtis! Sam was hurt, and he couldn't swim up! Why does no one in this town take anything seriously!"

"It's okay Chrissy," Sam said. "I'm fine."

"You're just overreacting a little bit," Grian put in.

The bell rang. Chrissy left the pool, stomping her feet. We walked out. Before we could go all the way off of the school property, I saw Chrissy sitting on a bench, her head in hands.

"You-you go on ahead," I told Grian and Sam. "I have something to do." As soon as they walked away, I walked over to Chrissy and sat down.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Go away," she mumbled, her head still in her hands. "I'm not in the mood."

"You can tell me. I won't tell Sam." She looked up.

"Oh, it's you Taurtis." She looked down again.

"Hey what's wrong? There's obviously something wrong. You're nearly crying." She sighed, and leaned back against the bushes behind us.

"I'm just...beaten down. It's only been a few days, and Sam's been hurt twice. I don't think I can take this anymore." She looked up at me. "You said that you'd keep him out of trouble Taurtis. That hasn't been happening." I put my arm around her and hugged her. She sighed again.

"I just wish it could've been me," she whispered. "If I lost Sam, I-I don't know what I'd do."

"I know. Listen, I have something to tell you too. Yakuza gave me a letter that day. The one with the incident. It said that he wanted me to join him. To meet him in the park the night Sam woke up. I...I kinda went. He gave me a hat, said that there was a meeting Thursday I had to go to. The weird thing was, when he was leaving, he said, 'Take care, my son.' I was really confused. I didn't tell Sam."

Silence.

"I'll talk to my dad about it," Chrissy said finally. "Sorry about yelling at you earlier. I was just upset."

"No worries. But if you are my sister, than, oh gosh, I don't want to think about it."

"Yeah. That would mean that your best friend would be dating your sister. Oh gosh, yeah, don't wanna think about that." We laughed. Then we stood up and started walking towards the train station.

"Thanks for talking to me Taurtis," Chrissy said. "I needed it."

"You're welcome. See you later."

"Bye." We got on the train and sat on different ends (A/N: don't question this. I just needed to wrap of this chapter). As soon as the train started to go, my eyes began to droop and soon I fell asleep.
