The last hour of the day is also known as art. When we got in the classroom it wasn't Mr. Lim who greeted us but a younger man.
"Hi, guys I'm Kang Dae-Sung your new art teacher. Mr. Lim retired due to health problems and sends his best regards. He told me a little about your strong & weak points and I decided to make a test to value your skills." He said passing through the desk to give us the assay. "At the end of the lesson, I will pair all of you basing my decision on the strong and weak points of each student. Now you can start."
The theory part was simple. When I flipped the test, I was asked to draw, and there I started to sweat like mad. At the end of the lesson, he started to match us. Bang and Park, Manobal and Kim, Jeon, and Cho.
No, why with him? Out of all the people in the class it had to be him. I thought deluded.
"I will explain why I paired up like that." He explained why every one of us was with him. "Park, I paired you with Bang 'cause he is new and since you are the class representative, I'd like for you to help him melt in. Kim and Manobal you are, pretty much, on the same level. Jeon you excel in drawing but history is not your thing Cho is the opposite tho."
Mr. Kang gave us a lot to do for the next lessons and dismissed the class.
"We're going to be together for a while," Kookie tells me while I take my backpack.
"Wow, now I'm worthy to be talked to." I shrug.
"Whoa, princess you don't seem so enthusiast."
"Omg, I'm going to work with you yahoo. Better this way?" I tell him walking to my locker.
"Sarcasm apart. We should take a day to work on our assay."
"Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are my only free days. Choose whatever you li..." I stop halfway, the book is shattered into a million pieces.
"What happened?" Kookie asks me as my vision gets blurred by my tears.
Suddenly someone snickers, I turn to see an amused look on Jihyo's face. "Ops!" she tells Da-Hyun and Yoon-Suh, high-fiving one other, and starting to laugh at me.
At that moment I lose it. "What's your fucking problem?"
"Well I see only one that has a problem here," she says snickering.
"Do you know how fucking expensive was that book?"
"If it was that 'expensive' you shouldn't take it here." My anger explodes and I slap her as hard as I can.
"You are just trash, now I know why Kookie left you."
"You mental bitch." She ready herself to slap me but Kookie stops her.
I go back to the locker and collect all the pieces of the book dabbing my eyes.
"Don't worry I'll tell Mom and Dad."
"Like they would believe you." She scoffs looking at me with arrogance.
"If you need some backup, I'm here." He tells me giving me a tissue.
"Thank you, I just can't understand why she hates me like this, I never wronged her."
"I think that's my fault. She thinks that I left her because..."
"Because?"
"Because...of you."
"That's stupid you two broke up way before I came here, right?" he nods.
"Anyway, that book can be bought again?"
I shake my head. "Not here. It's sold only at the University I want to attend and they don't ship."
"Can't you ask someone from there to buy it and send it to you?"
"I could but..." I take a deep breath. "This was a gift my old classmates gave me. They all put a little to buy it." Again, I feel my tears run down.
"Ehi, what did you do to her." I look up and I see Yoongi charge to us. "Why she's crying?" Taking Kookie from his collar.
"Man, calm down it's not my fault," Kookie tells him freeing himself.
"Yoongi, it's not him. Yoon-Suh and her friend ruined my book. Look." I tell him opening my backpack.
I start sobbing and Yoongi hugs me and we start to walk away. When we get to my house, he enters with me. I take out all the pieces of the book and the tape and start to put it together again.
The first to come home was Mom, and seeing us at the table she came to greet us. "Hi, son."
"Oh, Aunty. Hi." Yoongi greets her.
"Yoonah, what's happened." I turn to her still crying.
"Mom, look. Yoon-Suh and her friends ruined my book. What do I do now?"
"What are you saying, your sister wouldn't do something like that. You sure are wrong."
I look at her angrily. "Why won't you ever believe me? Do I always have to trick her to make her tell the truth for you to believe my words? I'm sick of this. If you have to be like this, why didn't you let me stay in Canada?"
"Your sister is a good child she didn't do it."
"Mom why are you so blind," I yell at her. "She's not good. She's mean and a liar. Since we got back, she's gotten worse but in the end, the bad one is always me. Look at this book, she knows how expensive is but she helped ruin it the same."
"Stop being so overdramatic. You must be wrong."
"They laughed directly in my face when I found the book."
When I don't get a comeback from her, I run up to my room yelling. "I HATE YOU!!!" Slamming the door behind me locking it.
After a few minutes, someone knocks at the door. "Sweetie, it's Dad. Can I come in?"
I get up to open the door and run again under the blankets. He sat beside my cocoon. "Can you tell me what's going on?"
I tell him everything. He sighs and asks me if there are people who saw them destroy the book.
"I don't know Dad, but there was Jungkook with me when I found it shattered in the locker." He got up without saying a word and went out of my room leaving me dumbfounded.
I'm so deluded by the situation. I hoped that he at least would believe me, but nothing.
I don't go down to eat and call the only people who are always on my side.
"Wifey what's up?" She looks at me and adds Hobi to the group call.
"Baby, what's wrong?" Looking at my two best friends I burst into tears.
"She ruined it. The book you guys gifted me. Yoon-Suh and her friends ruined it. Mom and Dad won't believe me. Why they won't believe me, just once will be enough. Why do they have to side with her every time."
"Baby, don't cry. We can't console you like always. I wish I was there with you."
"Me too wifey. I don't like to see you like this. As for the book don't worry, we will think something."
"I wish I never came back here. I want to go back home. To go back to Canada with you guys." The guys let me cry a little more.
"OK, now the tears festival will close. We should talk about something else. How's that gingerbread man? Still a brat with you?" Joy asked me.
"And the wrecking ball? Still destructive as always? And Jin Hyung? And that cute girl with the braids?" Hobi interrogates me.
A chuckle escaped my lips. "Yo man, hold the horses. Jin Oppa is well, Jisoo is also ok, in fact, she asked, me to hook you up for a date if you ever come here." I tell him.
"Up to it." He answers without a doubt.
"Wow, I thought I was the only one for you." He makes me laugh by doing heart with cute sounds.
"If I can't have you, then I should search for someone else. Are you perhaps still available?" Right, I totally forgot to tell them about me and Joonie.
"Well, a lot happened and I forgot to tell you some big news." They look at me hanging. "I'm seeing someone." Their jaw drops instantly.
"Boy, girl, unicorn?" They ask me.
"Do we know him?" I nod. "Who?"
"The wrecking ball."
"Yey, I knew you would end up together," Joy says dancing through the room while Hobi's face drops a little just to get his fabulous smile back.
I think I fall asleep at some point because when I open my eyes again it's already morning.
"Yoonah, come eat breakfast." Mom calls me like nothing happened. I ignore her walking out and slamming the door.
On the way to school, someone comes to my side. "Good morning Nanah." I look back, and Jimin's running to me.
"Oh, hi," I tell him without enthusiasm.
He looks at me and something in my face makes him frown, circling my shoulders he speaks. "Come with me." He takes me to the park and makes me sit on the swing crouching down in front of me.
"What's up?" he asks me. I'm a little taken aback by his gentle tone.
"It's nothing," I tell him tearing up.
"Really?" I shake my head and tears leave my eyes. "Tell me."
"Jihyo, Da-Hyun, and my sister ruined my book. It was a gift and it was expensive."
"Did you tell someone?" I nod.
"I told my parents but they didn't believe me. They never believe me."
"I believe you." I look at him surprised.
"Why?"
"Because I know Jihyo and Da-Hyun, and they're capable of that. I know you too, and you are too good to lie about something like that."
"Really?" He nods.
I lean in and hug him. "Thank you, Chim. Really." My empty stomach decided to ruin the mood by growling. "Sorry, I didn't have any breakfast. I was too upset to eat with them."
He laughs and helps me up. "Come with me." He takes me to the café and orders me something to eat and takes me a wet towel.
I start to eat with him looking at me the whole time. "You didn't put lenses today?"
"I have them with me. When we get to school I will."
"Don't." I look at him tilting my head.
"Why?"
"Because that's who you are. You shouldn't be tied by what we said when we were young."
"What do you mean?"
"I know you remember us. You're acting skills are terrible." I bit my lips.
"Then why you didn't say anything? Kookie and Tae know too?" He shrugs.
"I don't know, but I wanted to show you that I have changed, that I'm a not kid anymore."
"I don't understand you at all." He smiles and looks at his watch.
"Finish?" I nod. "Good. We better go otherwise we will be late." I take my things and walk out with him.
